Leighton Auxiliary Field

Preuit Oaks is a historic plantation house near Leighton in Colbert County, Alabama. The house was built in 1847 by Dr. John S. Napier, on land originally owned by his father-in-law. The house and land were sold in 1851 to W. Richard Preuit, who developed the property into a large cotton plantation using the forced labour of enslaved people. At its peak in 1860, the plantation covered 1,500 acres (600 ha); following the Civil War, its productivity declined, and Preuit's holdings had depleted to only 400 acres (160 ha) upon his death in 1882. The house has remained in the family since. The house is a 1+1⁄2-story structure with a gable roof punctuated by two dormer windows on the front façade. A pedimented portico supported by square columns covers the double entry door, which is surrounded by sidelights and a transom. Twelve-over-twelve sash windows sit on either side of the portico. The house has a center-hall plan with two rooms on either side. A one-story, shed-roofed addition projects from the rear of the house. In addition to the house, the complex also contains 14 buildings and structures constructed between 1850 and 1890, including an office, kitchen, cook's house, corn cribs, barn, gin house, tenant house, smokehouse, blacksmith shop, and the family cemetery.The house was listed on the Alabama Register of Landmarks and Heritage in 1978 and the National Register of Historic Places in 1986.

Leighton is a town in Colbert County, Alabama, United States. It is part of the Florence - Muscle Shoals Metropolitan Statistical Area known as "The Shoals". At the 2020 census, the population was 665. Leighton has been hit by several tornadoes in the 2000s, including a damaging EF2 on May 8, 2008, that was caught on tape flipping over many cars and damaging buildings.

Town Creek is a town in Lawrence County, Alabama, United States, and is included in the Decatur Metropolitan Area, as well as the Huntsville-Decatur Combined Statistical Area. It incorporated in March 1875. As of the 2010 census, the population of the town is 1100, down from 1216 in 2000. Since 1920, it has been the second largest town in Lawrence County after Moulton.

The Oaks (also known as Abraham Ricks Plantation) is a historic residence near Tuscumbia in Colbert County, Alabama. Ricks came to North Alabama from Halifax, North Carolina in the early 1820s. He acquired a large plantation which he sold in 1826 and purchased nearby land, which was worked by the forced labour of enslaved people who he had brought with him. A log house had been built on the new property circa 1818, and Ricks built a new, larger house connected to it which was completed in 1832. The house remained in the family until 1966, and is still in use as a private residence. The original house is a 1+1⁄2-story log structure covered with weatherboards. Exterior chimneys rest in each gable end, and a shed roofed porch projects from the rear of the house. The log house is connected to the two-story main house by a one-story, gable roofed hall with two exterior doors and windows matching those of the main house. The front façade of the main house is five bays wide, with a central portico supported by two square columns and topped with a deck. The twin-leaf door is surrounded by sidelights and a transom; a similar door with sidelights opens to the deck above. The portico is flanked by a pair of twelve-over-twelve sash windows on each side on both floors. The interior has a center-hall layout with one room on either side of a main hall.The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976.

Listerhill is an unincorporated community in Colbert County, in the U.S. state of Alabama. Listerhill contains a large aluminum plant. The community was named in honor of J. Lister Hill, a United States Senator from Alabama who was instrumental in the construction of the plant.

It is owned by the counties of Colbert and Lauderdale. The airport is serviced by Contour Airlines, subsidized by the Essential Air Service program. Formerly, the airport operated as Muscle Shoals Auxiliary Field.

Loosier is an unincorporated community in Lawrence County, Alabama, United States. Loosier is located immediately off Alabama State Route 157, 7.6 miles (12.2 km) northwest of Moulton. Loosier is presented on the Masterson Mill U.S. Geological Survey Map.It is at elevation 228m.

Muscle Shoals High School (MSHS),is the sole public secondary education institution in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. MSHS has been awarded the Blue Ribbon Lighthouse Award for Excellence.

Muscle Shoals National Heritage Area is a federally designated National Heritage Area in the northwestern portion of the U.S. state of Alabama. It is centered on the portion of the Tennessee River around Muscle Shoals and interprets the region's history and culture.Muscle Shoals National Heritage Area comprises Lauderdale, Limestone, Colbert, Franklin, Lawrence and Morgan counties. Significant features of the heritage area include Wheeler Dam, Wilson Dam, Ivy Green, Rosenbaum House, Barton Hall and the northern end of the Natchez Trace.Muscle Shoals National Heritage Area was established by the Omnibus Public Land Management Act of 2009, which was signed into law on 30 March 2009. It is administered by the University of North Alabama.

Muscle Shoals is the largest city in Colbert County, Alabama, United States. It is located on the left bank of the Tennessee River in the northern part of the state and, as of the 2010 census, its population was 13,146. The estimated population in 2019 was 14,575.Both the city and the Florence-Muscle Shoals Metropolitan Area (including four cities in Colbert and Lauderdale counties) are commonly called "the Shoals". Northwest Alabama Regional Airport serves the Shoals region, located in the northwest section of the state. Due to its strategic location along the Tennessee River, Muscle Shoals had long been territory of Native American tribes. In the late 18th and early 19th centuries, as Europeans entered the area in greater number, it became a center of historic land disputes. The new state of Georgia had ambitions to anchor its western claims (to the Mississippi River) by encouraging development here, but that project did not succeed. Under President Franklin D. Roosevelt's administration during the Great Depression, the Tennessee Valley Authority was established to create infrastructure and jobs, resulting in electrification of a large rural area along the river. The Ford Motor Company did build and operate a plant for many years in the Listerhill community, three miles east of Muscle Shoals; it closed in 1982 as part of industrial restructuring when jobs moved out of the country.Since the 1960s, the city has been known for music. Local studios and artists developed the "Muscle Shoals Sound", including FAME Studios in the late 1950s and Muscle Shoals Sound Studio in 1969.
