Addington School

Barrington is a minor suburb in the south of Christchurch, New Zealand, occasionally referred to as part of Spreydon. In 2006, the area was classified as a suburb by government organisations such as Statistics New Zealand for the purposes of the census, and divided into two areas named Barrington South and Barrington North. For the 2018 census, the area of Barrington was instead primarily included within the statistical area of Spreydon South.

Christchurch South Intermediate School is a school catering for students in Years 7 and 8 in Christchurch, New Zealand. Established in 1939, it is the second oldest intermediate school in the South Island and the third oldest in New Zealand. The school is located between the suburbs of Addington and Cashmere on what was the site of an old dairy farm and racing stables. It replaced the intermediate department of the Christchurch West High School in the 1930s. In 2012 work was completed replacing the old classrooms, which were built in 1939. These have been replaced with 4 'pods' consisting of 4 modern classrooms.

Addington is a major suburb of Christchurch, New Zealand. It is sited 2.5 kilometres (1.6 mi) south-west of the city centre. As an inner city suburb, Addington has a mix of residential, retail and light industrial properties.

Hagley College (previously Hagley Community College and Hagley High School), is a state secondary school in inner-city Christchurch, New Zealand. Prior to 1966 the school was Christchurch West High School, which was founded in 1858.

On 26 December 2010 a Mw 4.7 earthquake occurred directly under the city centre of Christchurch, New Zealand, at a depth of 5 km (3.1 mi) or 4 km (2.5 mi). It caused "significant damage" to Christchurch and was part of the earthquake sequence beginning with the September 2010 Canterbury earthquake, and followed by the 2011 Christchurch earthquake. As the earthquake occurred on Boxing Day, it is commonly referred to as the Boxing Day earthquake. Businesses running their Boxing Day promotions at the time experienced lost revenues due to the earthquake, and responded by re-running Boxing Day sales on 12 February 2011.

Christchurch West High School (originally Christchurch Academy then High School of Christchurch and then West Christchurch Borough School) existed prior to 1966 on the site of Hagley College in Hagley Avenue, in Christchurch, New Zealand. In that year 'West' amalgamated with Technical High School to become Hagley High School. As part of that amalgamation, the maroon, black and white colours were changed to teal.

Christchurch railway station is in the Canterbury region of New Zealand's South Island. It is on the Main North Line at Addington junction, and is the only remaining passenger railway station in the city: suburban passenger trains were cancelled due to lack of demand in the 1970s. It is the terminus of the South Island's one remaining long-distance passenger train, the TranzAlpine. The current station is the third to serve Christchurch. The two earlier stations were adjacent to each other on Moorhouse Avenue, a short distance to the east on the Main South Line, closer to the city centre.

Parakiore Recreation and Sport Centre, formerly known as the Metro Sports Facility, is a sport facility in Christchurch Central City, New Zealand, that has been under construction since 2018 and is scheduled to open in late 2025. It was announced in 2012 as part of the Christchurch Central Recovery Plan, which was a plan to recover the central city after the devastating 2010 Canterbury and 2011 Christchurch earthquakes occurred.

The Addington Railway Workshops was a major railway workshops established in the Christchurch suburb of Addington in 1877 by the Public Works Department, and transferred in 1880 to the newly-formed New Zealand Railways Department (NZR). The workshops closed in 1990.

Hagley Oval is a cricket ground in Hagley Park in the central city of Christchurch, New Zealand. The first recorded match on the ground was in 1867, when Canterbury cricket team hosted Otago cricket team. Canterbury used the ground infrequently from then through until the 1920s, but hardly stopped during World War I. The first match in the Plunket Shield was played there in December 1907, when Canterbury played Auckland. Canterbury returned there in 1979, and played a number of their 1993/94 Shell Cup home matches at the ground.

The Canterbury Cricket Umpires' Association Pavilion in Christchurch, New Zealand, is a historic cricket pavilion. Built in 1864, it was registered by Heritage New Zealand as a Category II historic place on 11 December 2003. It forms part of Hagley Oval.

Somerfield is a suburb in the south of Christchurch, New Zealand. It is nominally bordered by the Ōpāwaho / Heathcote River to the south and west, Strickland and Colombo Streets to the east, and Milton Street to the north. The suburb includes Somerfield School, Somerfield Park and a small number of shops which service the local area, although it is predominantly residential. Somerfield is also known for its wide variety of trees, especially along the banks of the Ōpāwaho / Heathcote River.
