Istra, Istrinsky District, Moscow Oblast

Istrinsky District (Russian: И́стринский райо́н) is an administrative and municipal district (raion), one of the thirty-six in Moscow Oblast, Russia. It is located in the western central part of the oblast. The area of the district is 1,268.97 square kilometers (489.95 sq mi). Its administrative center is the town of Istra. Population: 119,641 (2010 Census); 115,753 (2002 Census); 90,572 (1989 Census). The population of Istra accounts for 29.3% of the district's total population.

The Resurrection Monastery (Russian: Воскресенский монастырь, Voskresensky Monastery) or New Jerusalem Monastery (Russian: Новоиерусалимский монастырь, Novoiyerusalimsky Monastery) is a major monastery of the Russian Orthodox Church in Moscow Oblast, Russia. The Voskresensky Monastery has given rise to the eponymous village, which has grown into the town of Voskresensk (currently known as Istra). From 2010 to 2016, a large-scale restoration was carried out.

Snegiri (Russian: Снегири) is an urban locality (an urban-type settlement) in Istrinsky District of Moscow Oblast, Russia. Population: 3,177 (2010 Census); 3,494 (2002 Census); 4,252 (1989 Census).

Suponevo (Russian: Супонево) is a village in Odintsovsky District, Moscow Oblast, Russia. It had a population of 89 people as of 2006. On 6 December 2023, Ukrainian-born politician Illia Kyva, who had been accused of treason during the Russian invasion of Ukraine, was shot dead in a park in Suponevo.

Zvenigorod (Russian: Звени́город) is a town in the Moscow Oblast of western Russia. In 2010 it had a population of about 16,000.

Khalyava (Kholyava, Khalyavka, Russian: Халява, Холява, Халявка) is a river in the Moscow Region of Russia, near Zvenigorod. Right tributary of Moskva. It flows through the territory of the rural settlement of Zakharovskoye, Odintsovsky District, near the village of Maryino.The length of the river is 4 km, the area of the drainage basin is 12-15 km². Under the village of Maryino on the right bank there is a captive spring. The river is mentioned in the sources of 1624.

Moscow Oblast (Russian: Моско́вская о́бласть, romanized: Moskovskaya oblast', IPA: [mɐˈskofskəjə ˈobləsʲtʲ]), also known as Podmoskovye (Подмоско́вье, IPA: [pədmɐˈskovʲjə]), is a federal subject of Russia (an oblast). With a population of 8,524,665 (2021 Census) living in an area of 44,300 square kilometers (17,100 sq mi), it is one of the most densely populated regions in the country and is the second most populous federal subject. The oblast has no official administrative center; its public authorities are located in Moscow and Krasnogorsk (the Moscow Oblast Duma and the local government), and also across other locations in the oblast.Located in European Russia between latitudes 54° and 57° N and longitudes 35° and 41° E, Moscow Oblast borders Tver Oblast in the northwest, Yaroslavl Oblast in the north, Vladimir Oblast in the northeast and east, Ryazan Oblast in the southeast, Tula Oblast in the south, Kaluga Oblast in the southwest, and Smolensk Oblast in the west. The oblast mostly surrounds the federal city of Moscow, which is not part of the oblast, but rather a separate federal subject in its own right. The oblast is highly industrialized, with the major industries being metallurgy, oil refining, and mechanical engineering, along with the food, energy, and chemical industries.

SNT Gradostroitel (Russian: СНТ Градостроитель) is the private cottage village (dacha) located nearby Nikolina Gora 25 km north west to Moscow in Moscow Oblast, Russia. Population: 250

Austrian Airlines Flight 901 was a flight from Vienna, Austria to Moscow, USSR (now Russia) via Warsaw, Poland. On the night of 26 September 1960 the aircraft operating the flight, a Vickers Viscount, crashed near Moscow while on its approach to land, killing 31 of the 37 passengers and crew on board.

Povarovo (Russian: Поварово) is an urban locality (a suburban (dacha) settlement) in Solnechnogorsky District of Moscow Oblast, Russia, located 30 kilometers (19 mi) from the federal city of Moscow. Population: 7,985 (2010 Census); 7,602 (2002 Census); 9,066 (1989 Census).Its nearest railway station is Povarovo-1 on the Moscow–Saint Petersburg line. The UVB-76 radio transmitter was thought to be located near Povarovo.

Dedovsk (Russian: Де́довск) is a town in Istrinsky District of Moscow Oblast, Russia, located 38 kilometers (24 mi) west of Moscow and 30 kilometers (19 mi) southeast of Istra, the administrative center of the district. Population: 29,108 (2010 Census); 27,662 (2002 Census); 30,740 (1989 Census). It was previously known as Dedovo/Dedovsky (until 1940).
