Glenone

The River Clady is a mid-scale river in County Londonderry, Northern Ireland, a tributary of the Lower Bann. It starts on Carntogher Mountain and its upper stretch from the Source to Upperlands is well known as the Knockoneil River Upperlands on its The Clady River.

Portglenone (from Irish: Port Chluain Eoghain [ˈpˠɔɾˠt̪ˠ ˌxlˠuənʲ ˈoːənʲ], meaning 'landing place of Eoghan's meadow') is a village and civil parish in County Antrim, Northern Ireland. It lies 8.5 miles (14 km) west of Ballymena. It had a population of 1,174 people in the 2011 Census. Portglenone is beside the smaller village of Glenone (in County Londonderry), from which it is separated by the River Bann.

Our Lady of Bethlehem Abbey, a Cistercian monastery in Portglenone, County Antrim, Northern Ireland, was founded in 1948 by Mount Melleray Abbey in County Waterford. The monks bought Portglenone House, a country mansion built about the year 1810 by the Church of Ireland Bishop, Dr. Alexander who demolished the local castle. History records that Sir Roger Casement often stayed in the house in the early years of the 20th century.Despite opposition from local Protestants, the monastery succeeded in establishing itself in the locality and ran a successful dairy farm for many years. Our Lady of Bethlehem Abbey was the first enclosed monastery of men to be established in Northern Ireland since the Reformation.The monastery belongs to the Order of Cistercians of the Strict Observance (OCSO), also known as Trappists, who follow the Rule of St Benedict, but emphasise some of the more austere and penitential aspects of the Rule such as strict silence, abstention from meat, early rising and physical work. In the 1960s, the community built a new monastery designed in a modern style by Padraig Ó Muireadhaigh. The building has won several architectural awards. To establish continuity with the Order's past, stones from some of the pre-Reformation Irish Cistercian abbeys were incorporated in the church and cloisters.

Clady (Irish: Clóidigh) is a small village in County Londonderry, Northern Ireland. It had a population of 562 people in the 2011 Census. It is within the Mid-Ulster District area. The village name comes from the Clady River, a major river in Northern Ireland.

Saint Oliver Plunkett's GAC Greenlough (Irish: CLG Naomh Oilibheir Pluinceid Grainlocha) is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in Clady/Greenlough, County Londonderry, Northern Ireland. The club is a member of Derry GAA and currently caters for Gaelic football and camogie, and also competes in Scór. The club is named after Irish martyr Saint Oliver Plunkett. Greenlough has won the Derry Intermediate Football Championship three times and the Derry Junior Football Championship three times.

St Conor's College is a secondary school located in Northern Ireland. It has two sites. The main site is in the village of Clady and a junior site is located in Kilrea. The school opened in September 2018. It is within the Education Authority (North Eastern) region.

Innisrush or Inishrush (from Irish Inis Rois, meaning 'island of the woods') is a small village and townland near Glenone in County Londonderry, Northern Ireland. In the 2001 Census it had a population of 114 people. It is situated within Mid-Ulster District. Locally significant sites include St. Nossonus' Church of Ireland church, a listed building which stands on a hill to the east of the village. On Ford Road the old flax mill, mill race and weir on the Clady River are evidence of Innisrush's industrial past.

St. Mary's Church is a Roman Catholic church in Bellaghy, County Londonderry, Northern Ireland. It is the final resting place of Nobel Prize in Literature laureate Seamus Heaney. It is also the place where IRA hunger-strikers Francis Hughes and Thomas McElwee are buried.

Ballyscullion House refers to two country houses built for the Hervey family near Bellaghy in County Londonderry, Northern Ireland, close to Lough Beg at north-west corner of Lough Neagh. The first Ballyscullion House, sometimes called "Bishop's Folly", was a large house intended for Frederick Hervey, 4th Earl of Bristol and Bishop of Derry. Construction began in 1787 but it was not completed when he died in Italy in 1803. His heir decided to live at his other Irish house, Downhill House, also in County Londonderry, and the partially built Ballyscullion House was demolished by 1825. A second and much smaller Ballyscullion House was built in 1840 for Admiral Sir Henry William Bruce, and is now owned by the Mulholland family. A military camp was built on the estate in the Second World War by the 202nd Engineering Combat Battalion and occupied by the US 82nd Airborne Division before D-Day.

Ballymacpeake Upper is a townland lying within the civil parish of Maghera, County Londonderry, Northern Ireland. It lies in the east of the parish on the boundaries of the civil parishes of Ballyscullion and Tamlaght O'Crilly. It is also bounded by the townlands of Ballymacombs Beg, Ballymacpeake Lower, Dreenan, Drumard, Drumlamph, Mullaghboy, and Rocktown. It was apportioned to the Vintners company. The townland in 1926 was part of Rocktown district electoral division as part of Magherafelt Rural District. As part of Maghera civil parish, Ballymacpeake Upper also lies within the historic barony of Loughinsholin.

Bellaghy Wolfe Tones Gaelic Athletic Club (Irish: CLG Baile Eachaidh) is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in Bellaghy, County Londonderry, Northern Ireland. The club is a member of Derry GAA and currently competes in gaelic football and camogie. Bellaghy have won 21 Derry Senior Football Championships, four Ulster Senior Club Football Championships and the 1971-72 All-Ireland Senior Club Football Championship. Bellaghy camogie club have won two Derry Senior Camogie Championships. On 12 May 1997, the Club Chairman, Sean Brown, was attacked and abducted by a Loyalist Volunteer Force (LVF) gang as he locked the main gate of the GAA grounds on the Ballyscullion Road. Less than an hour later the body of the father-of-six was found lying beside his burnt-out car just off the Moneynick Road near Randalstown, County Antrim. He had been shot six times. On 19 January 2004 the Police Ombudsman for Northern Ireland published a report that was highly critical of the police investigation into Brown's killing, stating "the police investigation was incomplete and inadequate".In October 2021, "dissident republican" political party Saoradh, organised an event on the grounds to commemorate the 1981 Irish hunger strike. A month prior the club released a statement saying that "no event other than those relating to official GAA activity or training will be taking place at club premises on that date" however the event went ahead as planned in the club's car park before parading through the town.
