Holy Rosary Cathedral, Kaohsiung

The Diocese of Kaohsiung (Lat: Dioecesis Kaohsiungensis) is a Latin Church diocese of the Catholic Church in Taiwan. The diocese has the distinction of being the first Catholic ecclesiastical territory erected on the island of Taiwan. Created as the Apostolic Prefecture of the Island of Formosa in 1913, the name was changed to the Apostolic Prefecture of Kaohsiung in 1949. In 1961, the Prefecture was elevated to a full diocese, and became a suffragan to the Archdiocese of Taipei. The current bishop is Peter Liu Cheng-chung, appointed in January 2006. In November 2009, he was given the "ad personam" (personal) title of archbishop by Pope Benedict XVI.

The Guo-Yan Building BC (Chinese: 國揚國硯; pinyin: Guó yáng guó yàn) is a residential skyscraper located in Lingya District, Kaohsiung, Taiwan. As of December 2020, it is the fifth tallest building in Kaohsiung and the 20th tallest in Taiwan. The height of the building is 171 m (561 ft), the floor area is 82,499 m2 (888,010 sq ft), and it comprises 41 floors above ground, as well as five basement levels.

The Love River or Ai River (simplified Chinese: 爱河; traditional Chinese: 愛河; pinyin: Ài Hé; Pe̍h-ōe-jī: Ài-hô) is a river (canal) in southern Taiwan. It originates in Renwu District, Kaohsiung City, and flows 12 kilometers (7.5 mi) through Kaohsiung to Kaohsiung Harbor. Love River is the spine of Kaohsiung, playing a similar role to the River Thames of London. It is of great cultural significance to the people of Kaohsiung and plays an important role in its economy and tourism. A riverside park, the Love River Park, runs along the riverbank in downtown Kaohsiung City. A night market operates in the park, and there are three outdoor cafés, often with live bands. Boats which hold about fifteen people take tourists up and down the river. The scenery is enhanced by attractive city structures near the river, such as the Holy Rosary Cathedral, Kaohsiung Bridge, and the Kaohsiung District Court. Cultural events such as concerts and the Lantern Festival are often held by the river. The Love River was once heavily polluted, when raw sewage and industrial waste water flowed untreated into the river. Recent efforts by the city government to divert the waste water to the treatment plant in Cijin District has resulted in significantly improved water quality. Love River is now used for sightseeing, and there are duck boats, love boats and gondola rides for tourists to enjoy the city view. In 2018, mayor Han Kuo-yu proposed that a ferris wheel be built on the bank of Love River to create a romance industry and improve the economy.

King's Town Hyatt (Chinese: 京城凱悅; pinyin: Jīngchéng Kǎiyuè) is a 35-story, 137 m (449 ft) tall residential skyscraper located in Qianjin District, Kaohsiung, Taiwan. Construction of the skyscraper began in 2005 and it was completed in 2009. Designed by the Hong Kong based architectural firm P&T Group, the residential building provides 174 units of luxury apartments, with facilities such as a swimming pool, banquet hall, fitness center and a sky lounge on its topmost floor. As of December 2021, it is the 23rd tallest building in Kaohsiung.

The Kaohsiung Twin Towers, also known as Illuna Towers (Chinese: 夢萊茵), is a complex of twin residential skyscrapers completed in 1996 and located in Qianjin District, Kaohsiung, Taiwan. The height of the buildings are 142 m (466 ft), comprising 35 floors above ground, with a floor area of 52,628.4 m2 (566,487 sq ft). As of December 2020, it is the 19th tallest building in Kaohsiung.

The Han-Lai New World Center (traditional Chinese: 漢來新世界中心; simplified Chinese: 汉来新世界中心; pinyin: Hànlái Xīn Shìjiè Zhōngxīn) is a skyscraper located in Cianjin District, Kaohsiung, Taiwan. It is the eleventh tallest building in Taiwan and the third tallest in Kaohsiung (after 85 Sky Tower and Chang-Gu World Trade Center). The height of the building is 186 m, the floor area is 146,708.01m2, and it comprises 42 floors above ground, as well as 7 basement levels. Occupants include Hanshin Department Store and the Grand Hi-Lai Hotel.
