Dunellen is an NJ Transit railroad station on the Raritan Valley Line, in Dunellen, New Jersey. It is the only Raritan Valley Line station in Middlesex County. There is a ticket office and small waiting area at this stop. A simple station, there are two tracks with two small side platforms. The station is located on a high embankment. Trains stop serving the station at midnight and resume by 5 in the morning. Automatic ticket vending machines have been installed along with an automated voice telling commuters when their train will arrive.

As of the 2020 United States census, the borough's population was 7,637, an increase of 410 (+5.7%) from the 2010 census count of 7,227, which in turn reflected an increase of 404 (+5.9%) from the 6,823 counted in the 2000 census.Dunellen was formed as a borough by an act of the New Jersey Legislature on October 28, 1887, when it broke away from Piscataway Township, based on the results of a referendum held on March 23, 1886. Dunellen's incorporation was confirmed on April 15, 1914. The borough was named for the Dunellen station of the Central Railroad of New Jersey.

Washington Rock State Park is a 52-acre (0.21 km2) scenic state park on top of the first Watchung Mountain in Green Brook, New Jersey. The park is operated and maintained by the New Jersey Division of Parks and Forestry. It is famous for its scenic overlook used by General George Washington in 1777 to monitor troops led by British General William Howe. The 30-mile (48 km) panoramic vista covers the eastern plains of New Jersey up to New York City. The land was bought in 1913 to establish the park and commemorate the events of 1777. Most of it is woodland but at the outlook there are walking trails and a picnic area.

The Nathaniel Drake House is located at 602 West Front Street in the city of Plainfield in Union County, New Jersey. The house was built in 1746 and was added to the National Register of Historic Places on June 19, 1973, for its significance in architecture. It now operated as the Drake House Museum and is the headquarters of the Historical Society of Plainfield, though the building is owned by the City of Plainfield. The most famous piece in the Society's collection is the painting, "The Death of General Sedgwick" by Julian Scott.

The Washington Park Historic District is a 100-acre (40 ha) historic district located in the borough of North Plainfield in Somerset County, New Jersey. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on April 9, 1987, for its significance in architecture, landscape architecture, and community planning. Featuring houses built from 1868 to 1917, the district includes 145 contributing buildings.
