The Skansen Tunnel (Norwegian: Skansentunnelen) is an immersed tube underwater tunnel in the city of Trondheim in Sør-Trøndelag county, Norway. Part of Norwegian National Road 706, it runs from Brattøra to Ila. The tunnel is 510 meters (1,670 ft) long and opened on 27 May 2010.

Ilen Church (Norwegian: Ilen kirke) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Trondheim municipality in Trøndelag county, Norway. It is located in the Ila area in the city of Trondheim, on the 250-metre (820 ft) wide isthmus between the river Nid and the Trondheimsfjord. It is the church for the Ilen parish which is part of the Heimdal og Byåsen prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Nidaros. The gray, stone church was built in a cruciform style in 1889 by the local building company of Jacob Digre, according to a design by Trondheim based architect Eugene Sissenére (b. 1858). The church seats about 550 people, although it originally fit about 900. The seating was reduced to meet the fire regulations.A graveyard belonging to the parish is located at Ilsvika in the neighboring district of Ila, a short distance from the church site.

Skansen (Skansen stasjon) is a railway station located at Ila in Trondheim, Norway. It is on the Dovre Line (Dovrebanen), 1.20 kilometers from Trondheim Central Station. Service to the station is provided though the Trøndelag Commuter Rail operated by SJ Norge and regional trains to Røros Station. It was opened in 1893. The station is located in a residential area. It is the only railway station in Trondheim to have connections with the Trondheim Tramway. It is also served by city buses.

Trondheim Spektrum (formerly Nidarøhallen) is a multi-purpose indoor arena in Trondheim, Norway. It is located on the peninsula of Øya next to the Nidelven river. It is the home arena for women's handball team Byåsen HE. A new arena was completed in 2019 and replaced the largest multi-use hall in the same location. The eight former halls originally went by the name Nidarøhallen. Next to the halls is the athletics facility Øya stadion and the Trondhjems Tennis Club (TTK) with four outdoor clay courts and indoor tennis hall.

Tronka is a detached, monumental wooden building built in the classical style in the Kalvskinnet neighborhood of Trondheim.The structure was built between 1836 and 1842 as the Trondheim Hospital Care Foundation for the Feeble Minded (Norwegian: Trondhjems Hospitals Pleiestiftelse for Sindssvage) based on a design by Gustav Adolph Lammers and Ole Peter Riis Høegh. The name Tronka is probably derived from the French word tronc 'alms box', referring to an alms box at the entrance. The building functioned as an institution for the mentally ill until the Municipality of Trondheim took it over in 1919. The building was given protected status by the Norwegian Directorate for Cultural Heritage in 1927. The structure was taken over by the Norwegian Directorate of Public Construction and Property in 1995 and, after an extensive restoration project, in 2005 the building was put into use as office space for the directorate's Central Norway region.

Øya stadion, also known as Trondheim stadion, is an athletics facility in Nidarø, Trondheim, Norway. The field was established as "Øen stadion" in 1900 as a combined athletics field and skating rink.

The Nidareid train disaster was a train collision on 18 September 1921 on the Trondhjem–Støren Line railway line, between the stations of Marienborg and Skansen in Trondheim, Norway. The accident occurred the day after the inauguration of the new line to Trondheim, Dovre Line, and one of the trains involved was the inaugural train returning from the celebrations in Trondheim. Six people (all prominent Norwegians) were killed in the crash, the first serious passenger train accident in Norway.

The Trondhjem Hospital (Norwegian: Trondhjems Hospital; colloquially: Hospitalet) is a charitable foundation in Trondheim, Norway. The Hospital runs a nursing home, a home for demented persons, apartments for assisted living, and retirement apartments with attached home service. Its several buildings in Trondheim include the Hospital Church (Hospitalskirken). Created in 1277 by Archbishop Jon Raude, the Hospital is one of Norway's oldest foundations.

The Gunnerus Library in Trondheim is the oldest scientific library in Norway and dates back to 1768 when it was the library of the Royal Norwegian Society of Sciences and Letters (DKNVS). The library is named after bishop Johan Ernst Gunnerus (1718–1773). The Gunnerus Library is among the most important historical libraries in Scandinavia due to its rich collection from the 18th century. It focuses especially on the academic fields of archaeology, botany and zoology, but is also a general scientific library with an extensive collections in the history of culture and sciences, as well as genealogy and local history. The library is open to the public and is mainly frequented by scientists and students from the NTNU and local historians. The Gunnerus library is located in Trondheim's neighborhood of Kalvskinnet. It is based in the building of the DKNVS' library which dates back to 1866, and the new adjacent annexes which were later added in the years 1939 and 1975. The library boasts a collection of photographs, maps, manuscripts and a huge holding of books dating back from the 15th century. The library also holds an extensive book collection which came from the Norwegian legal deposit and revised materials from the last one hundred years.

Ila is a neighborhood in the city of Trondheim in Trøndelag county, Norway. It is located in the borough of Midtbyen, just west the central downtown area of Trondheim. Ila is bordered by the river Nidelva in the south, Skansen in the north, and Steinberget, Bymarka, and Ilsvikøra in the west. The area is mostly residential, with some industry and commerce. The Gråkallbanen tram line runs through Ila and the area is served by the Skansen Train Station on the Trønderbanen commuter train line. Nordre Avlastningsvei, which was completed during 2010, connects Ila via Brattøra to Lademoen.

The NTNU University Museum (Norwegian: Vitenskapsmuseet) in Trondheim is one of seven Norwegian university museums with natural and cultural history collections and exhibits. The museum has research and administrative responsibility over archaeology and biology in Central Norway. Additionally, the museum operates comprehensive community outreach programs and has exhibits in wooden buildings in Kalvskinnet. The Ringve Botantical Garden in Lade as well as Kongsvoll Alpine Garden in Dovre are also under the jurisdiction of the NTNU University Museum. The museum has its roots in the Royal Norwegian Society of Sciences and Letters (Norwegian: Det Kongelige Norske Videnskabers Selskab, DKNVS, formerly "The Trondheim Society", Norwegian: Det Trondheimske Selskab) since 1760. Since 1968, the museum was closely affiliated with the University in Trondheim, then with NTNU since 1996. In addition to managing archives and producing exhibits, the museum participates in larger research projects and cooperates with other university museums in digitizing collected works and building databases. Norway's Museum Union (Norwegian: Norges museumsforbund) named the NTNU University Museum "Norway's Museum of the Year" in 2010.Reidar Andersen has been the museum director since August 1, 2013.

Øya is a neighborhood in the city of Trondheim in Trøndelag county, Norway. It is situated the borough of Midtbyen, just east of Elgeseter. The neighborhood consists of a peninsula formed by the river Nidelva. The community is located close to the city center and is linked to the Midtbyen neighborhood by the Elgeseter Bridge and foot bridges at Øya stadion and Nidareid. The area is dominated by housing, but also features St. Olavs University Hospital as well as parts of the Norwegian University of Science and Technology and Sør-Trøndelag University College.
