Troy Park

Troy, also known as Troy Hill Farm, is a historic slave plantation home located at Elkridge, Howard County, Maryland, United States. It is associated with the prominent Dorsey family of Howard County, who also built Dorsey Hall.

Sheppard Pratt at Elkridge is a private psychiatric hospital under construction in Elkridge, Maryland. The hospital will serve as a replacement location for nearby Sheppard Pratt at Ellicott City.

Trinity Church is a historic Episcopal church located at Elkridge, Howard County, Maryland. The post road site was also known as Waterloo, Pierceland, Jessop and Jessup throughout the years. It was built starting on July 30, 1856, through 1857 as a chapel-of-ease in Queen Caroline Parish, the mother church of which was, and still is, Christ Church Guilford, near Columbia, Maryland. The church land was donated from William G. Ridgley and Dr. Lennox Birckhead, a Catonsville doctor who served in the Battle of Fort McHenry. The land was once part of Charles Carroll of Carrollton's land that comprised Spurrier's Tavern. Theodore Tubman and Myers Pearce (of Pierceland) deeded the cemetery to the north of the church as "Chapel hill". The first rector of Trinity Chapel, Alexander X. Berger served in 1857. Columbia's Berger road development is named after him. Berger resigned in 1861 at the outbreak of the civil war. In 1866, Trinity Chapel broke away from Christ Church Guilford, becoming Trinity Church.The church structure is a rectangular frame church of three bays with shingled walls and on the east end, a semi-octagonal apse of stone. Major additions to the original structure took place ca. 1890.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974.

Dorsey station is a passenger rail station on the MARC Camden Line between Washington, DC and Baltimore's Camden Station in Dorsey, Maryland. The station is located at Exit 7 on Maryland Route 100, a.k.a.; the Paul T. Pitcher Memorial Highway. It was built by MARC in 1996 as a replacement for a former Baltimore and Ohio Railroad station located on Route 103 east of Station House Drive. The former B&O station site is now a condominium development.

Dorsey, Maryland, is an unincorporated community along the border of eastern Howard County and northwestern Anne Arundel County in Maryland, United States. It is located south of Elkridge, north of Savage, and close to Baltimore-Washington International Airport (BWI). It is in the southern part of the Baltimore metropolitan area. Dorsey is perhaps listed as a former postal stop that operated from December 1881 on the B&O railroad and is now a MARC commuter rail system stop, which carries commuters into downtown Baltimore and Washington, D.C. Dorsey is a stop on MARC's Camden line and contains a large parking lot off Maryland State Highway 100. Dorsey station mainly serves commuters from Elkridge and Ellicott City, as well as the northern parts of Columbia. Howard Transit buses connect Dorsey station with various locations around Howard County as well as with the nearby Arundel Mills mall. Businesses in the area include hotels, warehouses, and satellite campuses for both Johns Hopkins University and the University of Maryland University College (both of which are located within the Dorsey Business Center). The Dorsey Business Center is a 50-acre (200,000 m2) business park developed between 1984 and 1989 by Douglas Legum Development Inc. It was the first large-scale development project in this part of the Baltimore region. The Dorsey Business Center sits on the site of the former Dorsey Speedway, a stock car track, and now contains over two million square feet of office and retail space. Howard Transit buses connect the business park to the Dorsey MARC station.

Rockburn Branch Park is a local park in Elkridge, Maryland that follows the Rockburn Branch, a tributary of the Patapsco River. The park features 7.4 miles of trails, 10 ball diamonds, 2 turf fields, 4 smaller fields, along with tennis and basketball courts. The park is also home to the Pfeiffers Corner Schoolhouse, Clover Hill Historic House, and Rockburn Elementary School.

Oak Hill is a historic manor located at Jessup, Maryland, United States. Oak Hill is a historic manor on a 235-acre farm between the Dorsey's Branch of the little Patuxent and the Old Annapolis road. The site is now dominated by the I-95 and Route 175 interchange, and the Port Capitol drive housing development, known as "Port Capital Village".The manor houses were built and maintained by the Orson Adams (1835–1907) family. Adams was the president of the Commercial National Bank of New York, using Oak Hill as a summer home. A Victorian manor house and an English Manor house were built onsite and noted in 1876 Hopkins maps. For a period they operated as antique stores before being purchased by the Rouse Company for land development. Within ten years of ownership by Rouse, both historic structures were omitted from the historic register, and burned down. Oak Hill was one of many historical buildings in the region with valuable real estate that was developed after a fire set to the structure, including Ammendale Normal Institute (1998), Troy Hill (1990), Duvall Farm, Avondale Mill (1991), St. Mary's College (1997), and Henryton State Hospital (2007, 2011).The Oak Hill youth detention complex in neighboring Anne Arundel County was named after the historic location.

Hanover is an unincorporated community in the Baltimore/Annapolis area in northwestern Anne Arundel County and eastern Howard County in the U.S. state of Maryland, located south of Baltimore. The community is located approximately at the intersection of Maryland State Highway 100 and the Baltimore–Washington Parkway. It is part of the Baltimore-Washington Metropolitan Combined Statistical Area and is located just southwest of the Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (commonly known as "BWI"). It is bordered by Severn to the south, Linthicum to the east, and Elkridge to the north and west.

Waterloo is an unincorporated community located in Howard County in the U.S. state of Maryland. Located at the intersection of Waterloo Road and Washington Boulevard, the neighborhood is encompassed mostly by Jessup and partially by Elkridge.

Spurrier's Tavern was a well-known tavern and horse-changing depot which stood by the main road between Baltimore and Washington, D.C. (now U.S. Route 1) from 1771 to 1835 near what is now Jessup, Maryland. George Washington visited the tavern several times during his presidency. After an 1835 fire, the building was repaired for residence by the family of its owner, who died there in 1852. It was demolished sometime thereafter.

The Patuxent Institution is located in Jessup, Maryland one mile east of U.S. Route 1 on Maryland Route 175. It is a treatment-oriented maximum-security correctional facility. With a maximum static capacity of 987 beds, it offers the most diverse services to the most varied male and female offender population in the state, and possibly in the nation. Patuxent Institution is the only institution for sentenced criminals in Maryland that is not part of the Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services. Its foundation lies in the Maryland Public General Law, codified as Title 4 of the Correctional Services Article. The predecessor of this statute, Article 31B of the Public General Laws of Maryland, was enacted in 1951.

The Lawyers Hill Historic District is a national historic district located at Elkridge, Howard County, Maryland. The district encompasses a broad array of architectural styles ranging from 1738 Georgian Colonial to 1941 Georgian Revival. The collection of Victorian domestic architecture built during the 1840s to 1880s is unparalleled in the county, with no two houses the same. Some of the later cottages were designed by Philadelphia architect Brognard Okie. There are variations of the American Gothic Revival form, Italianate, Queen Anne, and Shingle-style structures. There is also a range of Colonial Revival houses, from craftsman era rustic cottages to more formal Georgian, and mass-produced Dutch Colonial models from the early 20th century.The area developed originally in the 19th century as a summer community and early commuter suburb for prominent Baltimoreans. With the opening of the Thomas Viaduct in 1836, the Patapsco Valley south of the river was easily accessible to Baltimoreans. Many of the first residents were respected lawyers and doctors active in many of the professional and cultural organizations still vital in the state today. During the 1840s, as railroad service improved, Lawyers Hill residents began commuting to Baltimore on a daily and weekly basis, establishing the community as the state's first railroad commuter suburb.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1993.
