Winsen (Luhe)

The European Open is a European Tour golf tournament. Founded in 1978, up to 1994 it was played at various courses in England, including Sunningdale and Walton Heath, except for the 1979 event, which was held at Turnberry in Scotland. Between 1995 and 2007 the tournament was held at the K Club in Straffan, Ireland, before moving again in 2008, this time to the Jack Nicklaus-designed Heritage course at the London Golf Club near Sevenoaks, Kent, England. After a five-year hiatus, the event returned to the European Tour schedule in 2015, now played in Germany.

The Zollenspieker Ferry is a ferry across the Elbe river (here Unterelbe) in Germany. It crosses between Zollenspieker, a part of the quarter Kirchwerder of the Bergedorf borough of the city-state of Hamburg, and Hoopte, part of the town Winsen (Luhe), in the state of Lower Saxony, and is about 30 kilometres (19 mi) south-east of Hamburg city centre.

Kirchwerder (German pronunciation ) is a quarter of Hamburg, Germany, in the borough of Bergedorf. It is located on the southeast border of Hamburg at the Elbe river.

Neuengamme was a network of Nazi concentration camps in Northern Germany that consisted of the main camp, Neuengamme, and more than 85 satellite camps. Established in 1938 near the village of Neuengamme in the Bergedorf district of Hamburg, the Neuengamme camp became the largest concentration camp in Northwest Germany. Over 100,000 prisoners came through Neuengamme and its subcamps, 24 of which were for women. The verified death toll is 42,900: 14,000 in the main camp, 12,800 in the subcamps, and 16,100 in the death marches and bombings during the final weeks of World War II. Following Germany's defeat in 1945, the British Army used the site as an internment camp for SS and other Nazi officials. In 1948, the British transferred the land to the Free Hanseatic City of Hamburg, which summarily demolished the camp's wooden barracks and built in its stead a prison cell block, converting the former concentration camp site into two state prisons operated by the Hamburg authorities from 1950 to 2004. Following protests by various groups of survivors and allies, the site now serves as a memorial. It is situated 15 km southeast of the centre of Hamburg.

Neuengamme (German pronunciation ) is a quarter of Hamburg, Germany, located in the Bergedorf borough, near the river Dove Elbe (a tributary of the river Elbe). In this rural quarter, part of the Vierlande, the population in 2020 was 3,711. During Nazi Germany, Neuengamme concentration camp was located in Neuengamme.

Drage is a municipality in the district of Harburg, in Lower Saxony, Germany. With Marschacht and Tespe it completes the Samtgemeinde Elbmarsch. Drage is close beside Winsen (Luhe), the center of the county Harburg.

The Warsaw Uprising Memorial in memory of the deportees of the 1944 Warsaw Uprising stands in the park of the memorial to the victims of the Neuengamme Nazi concentration camp at Hamburg. It was unveiled on 1 September 1999 among others by Hamburg culture senator Christina Weiss and in the presence of novelist Andrzej Szczypiorski. On a polished surface made up of 36 elements, two of which with German and Polish texts on opposite sides, and to be walked on, are positioned in three rows 30 rough-hewn granite blocks. A gravel path is leading to the front side of the sculpture with which it forms a small valley. The stone used is exclusively Polish Strzegom granite. The memorial is dedicated to the 6000 Poles deported from the 1944 Warsaw Uprising to the Nazi concentration camp in Neuengamme and was initiated by the Polish community in Hamburg commemorating at the same time the 60th anniversary of the outbreak of World War II. Polish sculptor Jan de Weryha-Wysoczański created the monument pro bono.

Altengamme (German pronunciation ) located in the Bergedorf borough of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg in northern Germany, is a rural quarter on the right bank of the Elbe river. Altengamme is the most eastern part of Hamburg. In 2020 the population was 2,362.

The Wulfsen horse burial (German: Pferdebestattung von Wulfsen) is an early medieval horse burial, consisting of three horses, that was discovered in 1974 in a Saxon grave field in the village of Wulfsen, in the German district of Harburg. The find was rescued as a varnish profile, which is on display in the permanent exhibition of the Archaeological Museum Hamburg in Harburg, Hamburg.
