Roskilde University (Danish: Roskilde Universitet, abbreviated RUC or RU) is a Danish public university founded in 1972 and located in Trekroner in the Eastern part of Roskilde. The university awards bachelor's degrees, master's degrees, and PhD degrees in a wide variety of subjects within social sciences, the humanities, and natural sciences.

Trekroner is a district in the north-eastern outskirts of Roskilde on the Danish island of Zealand.The Trekroner district has been a major growth area of the city, expanding in the fields surrounding the campus of Roskilde University. Since 2000, many new homes have been built, contributing to an overall planned total of some 3,500 houses. Although Trekroner featured as a development area in Roskilde's future planning back in 1947, it was not until 1972 that the university was established there. In 1988, Trekroner Station, which had first been built for the industrial area to the south, was expanded to serve the students. The new housing estate known as Trekroner West (Trekroner Vest) was specified in urban development plans in the mid-1990s. It covered a total area of around 2.4 km2 (0.93 sq mi) divided up into 21 development units for housing, and facilities for up to 5,000 university employees and 15,000 students.

Hedeland is a 15-square-kilometre recreational area located between the towns of Hedehusene, Tune and Vindinge, some 20 km west of central Copenhagen, Denmark. The undulating landscape has emerged as a result of comprehensive extraction of gravel followed by environmental restoration since the late 1970s. The area is owned by a company, I/S Hedeland, which is owned by the municipalities of Høje-Taastrup, Greve and Roskilde.The landscape consists of both woods and open land and has a varied flora and bird life. Many of the former gravel pits have been converted into lakes and ponds. Hedeland is also home to a wide selection of recreational facilities, including a golf course, a kart circuit, a vintage railway, equestrian centre, amphitheatre and fishing ponds.

Roskilde Airport (IATA: RKE, ICAO: EKRK), officially known as Copenhagen Airport, Roskilde (Danish: Københavns Lufthavn, Roskilde, pronounced [kʰøpm̩ˈhɑwns ˈlɔftˌhɑwˀn ˈʁʌskilə]), is located 4 nautical miles (7 km) southeast of Roskilde near the town Tune. It was opened in 1973 as the first of three planned relief airports around Copenhagen. These plans were shelved shortly after, and the two other relief airports never made it past the planning stage. The airport is owned and operated by Københavns Lufthavne A/S (Copenhagen Airports) which also operates Copenhagen's major airport at Kastrup. The airport had 25,053 passengers in 2003. The airport is fully equipped, but most flights from this airport are taxi-flights, small-plane regular flights to minor domestic islands or business jets. It was once discussed to move all charter flights from Copenhagen Airport to this airport, but then the European aviation market changed as national airliners were allowed to be challenged by privately owned ones (1990s). The former charter airline companies in Europe then more or less had to either become regular challengers or vanish from the market. Hence, no flights with large aircraft have been moved to the airport. The runway is too short for fully loaded jet airliners such as the Boeing 737.

Roskilde municipality (Danish: Roskilde kommune) is a municipality in Region Sjælland, 30 km west of Copenhagen on the island of Zealand (Sjælland) in east Denmark. The biggest city is Roskilde, the municipality covers an area of 212 km², and it has a total population of around 90,000 (2022). Its current mayor is Tomas Breddam. He is a member of Socialdemokraterne. Neighboring municipalities are Egedal to the northeast, Greve and Solrød to the southeast, Høje-Taastrup to the east, Køge to the south and Lejre to the west. To the north-west is Roskilde Fjord. Roskilde University is located in the municipality. By January 1, 2007 the former Roskilde municipality was merged with Gundsø and Ramsø municipalities into the current one, as the result of Kommunalreformen ("The Municipal Reform" of 2007). The name of the new municipality is still "Roskilde Kommune". The town hall is situated in the city of Roskilde, at Køgevej 80. It formerly belonged to Roskilde County.

Himmelev is a largely residential area in the municipality of Roskilde in Denmark and is contiguous with Roskilde. The population in the parish is around 14,000 (2022). It is on the eastern shore of the southernmost part of Roskilde Fjord. It contains primarily subdivisions with single family homes, but one of the three high schools in Roskilde, Himmelev Gymnasium, is also located the town. The Norwegian owned liver paté factory Stryhn's is located in the northwestern part of Himmelev, close to Roskilde Fjord. Veddelev lies slightly to the northwest on a peninsula extending into Roskilde fjord, leaving a narrow waterway of one kilometer extending to the southeast into a rectangular shaped area of the fjord of around 8 sq mi, which contains Roskilde harbor to the south. Further north lies Risø on another peninsula in the fjord.

Reerslev Church lies in the village of Reerslev, adjacent to Høje-Taastrup near Roskilde in Denmark. It has a number of interesting frescos or kalkmalerier painted by artists from the Isefjord school.

Zealand University Hospital, Roskilde (former name Roskilde Sygehus) is the main hospital in Roskilde on the Danish island of Zealand. It should not be confused with Zealand University Hospital, Køge (formerly named Køge Sygehus). Zealand University Hospital, Roskilde was founded in 1855, and as of 2014 it had 437 beds for in-patients and several specialist wards. The hospital has been continuously modernized and expanded over the years. In 2010, physics facilities have been established in medical and hematological outpatient units, while the cardiology laboratory was expanded for CAG/PCI. In 2011, a haematological ward and a urological ward were modernized and re-equipped. The hospital works in conjunction with Roskilde University in biomedical research, health services research, research assignments, direct research and pharmaceutical biology. It is also involved in scientific co-operation with the Risø Research Centre.

Roskilde Station (Danish: Roskilde Station or Roskilde Banegård) is the principal railway station serving the city of Roskilde, Denmark, situated on the Danish Main Line between Copenhagen and Jutland. The station is also a terminus for the Lille Syd Line which connects Roskilde to Næstved by way of Køge, and the Nordvest Line to Kalundborg. Completed in 1847, it is the oldest railway station in Denmark still in use. It was listed in 1964.

The Roskilde Jars (Danish: Roskildekrukkerne) stand on the square outside the railway station in Roskilde on the Danish island of Zealand. The three huge jars are 5 m (16 ft) in height and together weigh about 24 tons.The jars are the work of the Danish abstract sculptor Peter Brandes (born 1944). They were commissioned by Elsebeth Stryhn of Stryhns Leverpostej, a local meat paste company, and presented to the city in 1998 on the occasion of Roskilde's 1,000th anniversary.The jars stand in a shallow basin of water, in which they are reflected. The one closest to the station is inscribed with extracts from Henrik Norbrandt's poem Junker Kristoffer, a local hero buried in Roskilde Cathedral in 1363. The colourful glazed jars (two in tones of blue, the third in bronze) are reminiscent of Ancient Greek amphoras. They have accounted for several world records in pottery manufacture. Consisting of several hundred sections fired up to 1,300 °C at the Tommerup ceramics factory on the island of Funen, they were assembled by two men who stacked the sections on top of each other.

Greyfriars Cemetery (Danish: Gråbrødre Kirkegård) is located close to the Railway Station in central Roskilde, Denmark. It has a park-like setting. The cemetery's history as a burial site can be traced back to the middle of the 13th century. The current Greyfriars Chapel dates from the middle of the 19th century and was listed in 2010 together with the wall and entrance gate.
