Santiago Marathon

Plaza de la Ciudadanía (Spanish: [ˈplasa ðe la sjuðaðaˈni.a], Citizenry Square) is a public square located in the southern façade of the Palacio de La Moneda (Chile's presidential palace) in Santiago. It used to be part of the grass garden and parking area of the Palace. Construction began in November 2004, as part of the Bicentennial Projects (a series of public works initiated by the executive branch all over the country for the purpose of celebrating the nation's 200 years of independence). The first stage of the works, inaugurated in January 2006, featured as centerpiece the Centro Cultural Palacio de La Moneda ("La Moneda Palace Culture Centre"), a large underground cultural facility, as well as two water mirrors, two lines of fountains, a new underground parking area and the relocation of the statue of former-president Alessandri. In the future, the nearby Alameda Avenue will go underground, allowing to connect the Plaza directly with the Paseo Bulnes (Bulnes Boulevard), respecting the original design of the Barrio Cívico de Santiago ("Civic Quarter"), with a grand perspective from the Palace and other government buildings down the Boulevard. This third phase of the project is still pending final approval.

Centro Cultural Palacio de La Moneda ("Palacio de La Moneda Cultural Center") is a cultural facility located in Santiago, Chile, under the Citizenry Square, in the southern façade of the Palacio de La Moneda. It is intended to place the Chilean capital in the international cultural circuit, allowing participative and formative access for all citizens to the cultural and audiovisual richness of the nation. It was built between November 2004 and January 2006 and was designed by Chilean architect Cristián Undurraga. It contains 7,200 m², with two main exhibition halls, each 620 m² in area. This project is part of the bigger Bicentennial Project, in preparation for the 200th anniversary of Chile's Republican Life. As part of this plan, many public buildings, parks, libraries, airports, and boulevards have been built or improved. Also this center houses other minor exhibition halls: the Centro de Documentación de las Artes ("Arts Documentation Center", with information and resources concerning modern and contemporary art), Cineteca Nacional ("National Film Archive"). The museum also has a Digital Laboratory (for film restoring and digitallization), Restaurants, Café, and a small Shop. There is a new art and technology exhibition room. There is a parking garage under the space with room for 564 cars on 4 levels, with pedestrian and vehicular access on Morande street and Teatinos street. The inaugural exhibit (from January to July 2006) is México: del Cuerpo al Cosmos ("Mexico: from Body to Cosmos"), featuring about 200 pieces of ancient Mexican art. If you plan ahead, you can get a free guided tour of the museum. On the weekends only the general public can receive the tour. On the week days, social organizations, students, and companies can organize a guided tour, as well as the general public.

The Llama de la Libertad or Llama Eterna de la Libertad (lit. "Flame of Liberty" or "Eternal Flame of Liberty") was a ceremonial flame located in Plaza Bulnes in Santiago, Chile. It was lit on September 11, 1975 by Augusto Pinochet to commemorate the 1973 Chilean coup d'etat against the presidency of Salvador Allende. The Llama de la Libertad was part of a larger monument called Altar de la Patria (lit. "Altar of the Motherland") and was a symbol of the military dictatorship that ruled Chile from 1973 to 1990.

The Bernardo O'Higgins monument is a bronze sculpture on a marble base that represents the moment in which Bernardo O'Higgins crossed over a defeated enemy of the royalist troops with his horse in the Battle of Rancagua in 1814. It is located in the Alameda in front of the Palacio de La Moneda, in the Plaza de la Ciudadanía in the city of Santiago, Chile. Made by the French sculptor Albert-Ernest Carrier-Belleuse, it was inaugurated on May 19, 1872. Its pedestal presents four bas-reliefs that represent the life of the hero, two of them made by the Chilean sculptor Nicanor Plaza. It was inaugurated on May 19, 1872.

Palacio de La Moneda (Spanish: [paˈlasjo ðe la moˈneða], Palace of the Mint), or simply La Moneda, is the seat of the President of the Republic of Chile. It also houses the offices of three cabinet ministers: Interior, General Secretariat of the Presidency and General Secretariat of the Government. It occupies an entire block in downtown Santiago, in the area known as Civic District between Moneda (North Side), Morandé (East), Alameda del Libertador Bernardo O'Higgins (South) and Teatinos street (West).

Morandé 80 is the street address for a door located on the east side of Palacio de La Moneda, the Chilean presidential palace. The door was built in 1906 so that the President of Chile could enter the palace as a common citizen without receiving formal honours from palace guards.

La Moneda is a station on the Santiago Metro in Santiago, Chile. It is underground, between the stations Los Héroes and Universidad de Chile on the same line. It is located on the Avenida Libertador General Bernardo O'Higgins, in the commune of Santiago. The station was opened on 15 September 1975 as the eastern terminus of the inaugural section of the line between San Pablo and La Moneda. On 31 March 1977 the line was extended to Salvador.It is named for the nearby Palacio de La Moneda.

The Edificio de la Intendencia Metropolitana is a government building housing the Intendencia for the Santiago Metropolitan Region, in Santiago, Chile. It is located in the very heart of the civic district of Santiago, at 93 Morandé Street–at the southeast corner of Morandé and Moneda streets–, close to the Palacio de La Moneda. It was originally built to house El Diario Ilustrado, a newspaper that occupied the building until 1928, when the newspaper owners sold the building to the government of Chile to accommodate offices for the Intendencia de Santiago.

The Club de la Unión is a gentlemen's club in Santiago, Chile. The name derives from the fact the club united rich men coming together from opposing political parties. Club members met for the first time on July 8, 1864 and its first president was Manuel José Yrarrázaval Larraín. The club was housed in different locations through downtown Santiago for the first decades. Its current housing was completed in 1925 and was declared a national monument in 1981.

Torre Entel (Entel Tower) is the name of a 127.4 metres (418 ft) high TV and telecommunications tower in Santiago, Chile. Torre Entel has an observation deck open for visitors. Construction began in 1970 during Eduardo Frei Montalva term as president and it was inaugurated in 1974. In 1976 it carried its first television transmissions. For many years it was the tallest building in Chile and today remains a symbol of Santiago. The tower is constructed of concrete, steel, and aluminum. With 128 m high and 18 floors, it was after the end of its construction in 1974, the highest architectural structure in the country, a title it kept until the inauguration of the Telefonica Tower in 1996 with 143 m. Already surpassed in height by other buildings, it continues being the structure of greater prominence in the commune of Santiago, being located next to the Avenida Libertador General Bernardo O'Higgins and to a block of the La Moneda Palace, reason why it has stayed like an icon of the city. Its design represents a torch, an ancient form of telecommunication.

The Casa Central de la Universidad de Chile, also known as Palacio de la Universidad de Chile, is the main building for the Universidad de Chile, and is located at 1058 Alameda Libertador Bernardo O'Higgins, in Santiago, Chile. The building dates from 1872, and currently houses the rectorate, rooms used for ceremonial events and the Andrés Bello Archives, so-named to honor the lawyer who founded the university. It was declared a National Monument of Chile in 1974. The adjacent Universidad de Chile metro station was named after the building.

The Plaza de la Constitución (English: Constitution Square) is a plaza occupying a full square block in the heart of the civic district of Santiago, Chile. It is located in front of the northern facade of the Palacio de la Moneda and is surrounded by other government buildings such as those housing the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Justice (Edificio del Seguro Obrero), Banco Central de Chile and the Intendencia de Santiago. The square is bounded by Moneda Street on the south, Morandé Street on the east, Agustinas Street on the north, and Teatinos Street on the west.
