East Orange STEM Academy

Clifford J. Scott High School was a comprehensive community public high school serving students in ninth through twelfth grades in the city of East Orange, in Essex County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey, operated as part of the East Orange School District.

Upsala College (UC) was a private college affiliated with the Swedish-American Augustana Synod (later the Augustana Evangelical Lutheran Church) and located in East Orange in Essex County, New Jersey in the United States. Upsala was founded in 1893 in Brooklyn, New York City, and moved to Kenilworth, and finally to East Orange in 1924. In the 1970s, Upsala considered moving to Wantage Township in rural Sussex County (where it opened a satellite campus) as East Orange's crime problem magnified and social conditions deteriorated. However, the college administration and trustees chose to remain committed to East Orange. Declining enrollment and financial difficulties forced the school to close in 1995.

East Orange Campus High School is a comprehensive community public high school serving students in ninth through twelfth grades in the city of East Orange, in Essex County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey, on the former campus of Upsala College. The school is part of the East Orange School District, classified as an Abbott District. The school has been accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Elementary and Secondary Schools since 1928.As of the 2021–22 school year, the school had an enrollment of 1,716 students and 104.0 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 16.5:1. There were 981 students (57.2% of enrollment) eligible for free lunch and 88 (5.1% of students) eligible for reduced-cost lunch. The enrollment was 90.4% African American, 8.8% Hispanic, 0.6% White and 0.3% Asian / Pacific Islander.

East Orange Stadium was a football stadium located at the intersection of North Clinton St. and Park Avenue in East Orange, New Jersey. The field was used for practice and home games by the Orange Athletic Club, who later evolved into the Orange Tornadoes of the National Football League prior to the opening of Knights of Columbus Stadium in 1926. Paul Robeson Stadium, which is used by East Orange Campus High School athletics, occupies the space that was once used for the field.

Watsessing Avenue station (also known as Watsessing) is a New Jersey Transit rail station in Bloomfield, New Jersey, along the Montclair-Boonton Line. It is located beneath the Bloomfield Police Benevolent Association meeting hall (which formerly served as the station building) near the corner of Watsessing Avenue and Orange Street in Bloomfield. It is one of two stations on the line where the boarding platform is below ground level (the Glen Ridge station, two stops away from it, is the other). The Watsessing station and the Kingsland station in Lyndhurst on the Main Line shared similar designs (both station platforms are located below street level) and were built about the same time. The current Glen Ridge, Bloomfield and Watsessing stations along the Montclair branch were all built in 1912 during a grade separation program by the Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Railroad. During New Jersey Transit's running of the line, two stations between Watsessing and Newark Broad Street were closed due to low ridership—the Roseville Avenue station in Newark, at the junction with the Morristown Line on September 16, 1984, and Ampere station in East Orange on April 7, 1991. The word "Watsessing" is a Native American term that translates to "mouth of the creek".The station has been on the New Jersey State Historic Preservation Office listings since March 25, 1998, the last of the four stations from East Orange to Glen Ridge to receive the listing. On September 14, 2005, the entire Montclair Branch was added to the same listings, although Ampere, Bloomfield and Glen Ridge stations have been on the listings since March 17, 1984.

The Westinghouse Lamp Plant located in Bloomfield, New Jersey, was one of the lamp manufacturing plants of Westinghouse Electric Corporation. The plant had a major involvement in supplying uranium metal for the world's first self-sustaining chain reaction in Chicago (Chicago Pile-1) in the early phase of the Manhattan Project to create the first atomic bomb.

Watsessing Park is a park in Essex County, New Jersey, in the city of East Orange and the Watsessing section of Bloomfield Township. The park covers 69 acres (279,000 m²), just west of the Garden State Parkway, and contains the confluence of the Second River and Toney's Brook. The name "Watsessing" comes from the language of the Lenni Lenape Indians who inhabited the area before European colonization; it means "crooked" or "elbow". This etymology might have been related to the Third River, which also flows through Bloomfield (though not through Watsessing Park), and which forms an abrupt elbow near the town's center. Watsessing Park was designed in 1899 by the Olmsted Brothers of Brookline, Massachusetts (sons of Frederick Law Olmsted, designer of Manhattan's Central Park).

Watsessing is a neighborhood and census-designated place (CDP) located in Bloomfield Township, Essex County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. It is in the southwest corner of the township, bordered to the northwest by Glen Ridge, to the southwest by East Orange, to the southeast by the Ampere North part of Bloomfield, and to the northeast by the rest of Bloomfield. Watsessing Park is in the center of the community, in the valley of the Second River or Watsessing River, part of the Passaic River watershed. The Garden State Parkway runs through the center of the community, on the southeast side of Watsessing Park, with access from Exit 148. The parkway leads north 5 miles (8 km) to Clifton and south through East Orange 5 miles (8 km) to Irvington. The NJ Transit Montclair-Boonton Line has two stops in the community: Watsessing Avenue in the southeast and Bloomfield in the northeast. Watsessing was first listed as a CDP prior to the 2020 census.

Ahlus Sunnah School is an Islamic school located in East Orange, New Jersey. Founded in 2005, the school serves students in grades PreK-12.As of the 2017–18 school year, the school had an enrollment of 117 students (plus 25 in PreK) and 28 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 4.2:1. The school's student body was 47.0% (55) Black, 19.7% (23) Asian, 17.1% (20) White, 13.7% (16) two or more races and 0.9% (1) Hispanic.

Ampere North is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Bloomfield Township, Essex County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. It is in the southern corner of the township, bordered to the north by the Watsessing CDP, to the northeast by Silver Lake, to the southwest by East Orange, and to the southeast by Newark. Ampere Parkway runs through the center of the CDP, from Bloomfield Avenue at the northeast border of the community, south into the Ampere neighborhood in East Orange. Ampere North was first listed as a CDP prior to the 2020 census with a population of 5,132.

Ampere, formerly known as The Crescent, is a defunct stop on New Jersey Transit's Montclair-Boonton Line in the city of East Orange, Essex County, New Jersey, United States. A station was first built there in 1890 to service to new Crocker Wheeler plant in the district. The stop was named in honor of André-Marie Ampère, a pioneer in electrodynamics and reconstructed as a new Renaissance Revival station in 1908. Ampere was the second stop on the branch west of Newark Broad Street Station until 1984, when the Roseville Avenue station was closed. In June of that year, the station, along with 42 others, was entered into the National Register of Historic Places. In 1986, after continuous deterioration, New Jersey Transit demolished the westbound shelter built in 1921. The agency discontinued rail service to Ampere on April 7, 1991. The entire station was demolished in 1995.

In 1989, an intellectually disabled 17-year-old girl was raped with a broomstick and a baseball bat by members of the Glen Ridge High School football team in Glen Ridge, New Jersey. This event attracted nationwide attention, mainly due to the perception that the assailants had been given special treatment by the school and local authorities due to their status as local football stars. The events were later documented in a book and TV movie.
