Old Town Bridge

Bakklandet is a neighborhood in the city of Trondheim in Trøndelag county, Norway. It lies in the borough of Østbyen on the east side of the Nidelva river between the Bakke Bridge (Bakke bru) and the Old Town Bridge (Gamle Bybro).The neighborhood is dominated by small, wooden houses and narrow streets. It is among the major tourist attractions in the city.In 1965, the road plan for Trondheim proposed that a large area in Bakklandet be demolished to make way for a four-lane motorway which would connect the road "Elgeseter gate" with the road "Innherredsveien". The plans were met by opposition from locals, and by the early 1980s the plan was shelved, even though the city's environmental council had approved depopulating the neighborhood in 1974.

The Trampe bicycle lift (Norwegian: Sykkelheisen Trampe) is a bicycle lift in Trondheim, Norway, invented and installed in 1993 by Jarle Wanwik.In 2013 it was upgraded and rebranded under the name CycloCable by Skirail, part of the Poma group.

Trondheim Science Centre (No: Vitensenteret i Trondheim) is located in the Kongens gate area of Trondheim, Norway.

Kunsthall Trondheim is a contemporary art institution in Trondheim, Norway. Located in a former firehall, it opened in October 2016. Between 2013 and 2016, Kunsthall was run as a preliminary project in a temporary space by former director Helena Holmberg. Since 2019, Stefanie Hessler is Kunsthall Trondheim director. The faciliry offers exhibitions and public programmes.

In Nord-Trøndelag and Sør-Trøndelag the bank is branded SpareBank 1 Midt-Norge while it is branded SpareBank 1 Romsdals Fellesbank in Møre og Romsdal but in April 2008 the bank changed its name to Sparebank 1 SMN. The company has its head office in Trondheim. The CEO is Finn Haugan. The bank has total assets of NOK 46 billion, making it the 9th largest bank in Norway. In Trøndelag the bank has a market share of 38% while it has a 28% marked share in Romsdal. The bank serves both private customers in addition to agricultural, small and medium-sized businesses in addition to the public sector.

Vår Frue Church (Norwegian: Vår Frue kirke / English: Our Lady's Church) is a medieval parish church of the Church of Norway in Trondheim municipality in Trøndelag county, Norway. It is located in the downtown Midtbyen area of the city of Trondheim, just a few blocks north of the Nidaros Cathedral. It is one of the two churches for the Nidaros og Vår Frue parish which is part of the Nidaros domprosti (arch-deanery) in the Diocese of Nidaros. The gray, stone church was built in a long church design in the late 1100s using plans drawn up by Bjørn Sigvardsson. The church seats about 540 people.

The 1681 Trondheim fire started on 18 April 1681, in a building near Nidelva. Large parts of the centre of Trondheim, Sør-Trøndelag county, Norway. were destroyed, including the quay houses and Vår Frue Church. Timber merchant Thomas Hammond perished during the fire. After the fire incident, a new city plan of Trondheim was developed by Johan Caspar von Cicignon, on the initiative of the King Christian V.

Nova Kinosenter is a cinema located in the city of Trondheim in Norway. It is one of Norway's most modern cinemas, and in September 2004, six new auditoria were added to the existing five. In its current form, Nova can accommodate 1314 people.

Nordenfjells or Nordafjells ("North of the Mountains") is currently a name for the area of Norway north of mountain range of Dovrefjell. The term is largely used when referring collectively to Central Norway and Northern Norway. Until around 1800 the name also included all of Western Norway. The largest city is Trondheim, with the Trondheim Region having a population of 260,000. Historically, an administrative division of Norway in Sønnenfjells and Nordenfjells has been used from the Middle Ages until around 1800. The border between the two regions was a range from Åna-Sira or Lindesnes, northwards along Langfjella and Dovrefjell. What is today known as Western Norway (Vestlandet) was defined as part of Nordenfjells. The notion of Western Norway was introduced in the 1800s. Erik Pontoppidan was one of the first to use the notion of vestenfields (west of the mountains) as distinct part of Nordenfjells. Pontoppidan observed the notable differences in climate between east and west. Later William Thrane wrote that western Norway included most of Christiansand dicose (Agder, Rogaland and western Telemark). Hans Strøm used the old distinction where «nordenfjells» included western Norway. Christopher Hansteen travelled across Hardangervidda in 1821 and observed that his compassed apparently had a 90° deviation: People in Eastern Norway said they traveled "north" to Hardanger and people from the west were known as "nordmenn". Christian Magnus Falsen in 1822 used Vestlandet about Agder and Jæren. Ivar Aasen's dictionary from 1850 og 1873 use vestlending og Vestlandet as these names are used today.Norge (Norway) and nordmenn in the Middle Ages were names for the coastal areas from Agder to Hålogaland, and the people there. Ohthere of Hålogaland used these names in his report to King Alfred in year 890. When the kingdom expanded the old labels nordmenn and nordenfjells were still used about the coastal/fjord areas in the west while the eastern areas, Østlandet, were inhabited by austmenn (eastern men).

St. Olav’s Shrine was the resting place of the earthly remains of St. Olav, Norway’s patron saint, behind the high altar of Nidaros Cathedral in Trondheim, Norway, from the mid 11th century. For nearly five centuries the shrine was of major religious importance to Norway and the other Nordic countries, and also to other parts of Northern Europe. St. Olav’s Shrine opens and closes the Middle Ages as a historic period in Norway. The shrine consisted of three shrines, the one covering the other, and was the most important and by far the most valuable object in Norway in the Middle Ages. After the Lutheran reformation in 1536–1537, the valuable parts of St. Olav’s Shrine were destroyed by Danish authorities. Since 1568 St. Olav’s earthly remains have been resting in an unknown grave, in Nidaros Cathedral or in the cathedral cemetery.

The Archdiocese of Nidaros (or Niðaróss) was the metropolitan see covering Norway in the later Middle Ages. The see was the Nidaros Cathedral, in the city of Nidaros (now Trondheim). The archdiocese existed from the middle of the twelfth century until the Protestant Reformation.

Nidaros is a diocese in the Lutheran Church of Norway. It covers Trøndelag county in Central Norway and its cathedral city is Trondheim, which houses the well-known Nidaros Cathedral. Since 10 September 2017, the Bishop of Nidaros is Herborg Finnset. The Bishop Preses, currently Olav Fykse Tveit is also based at the Nidaros Cathedral. The diocese is divided into nine deaneries (prosti). While the Bishop Preses holds episcopal responsibility within the Nidaros domprosti (deanery) in Trondheim, the Bishop of Nidaros holds episcopal authority of the other eight deaneries as well as the language based parish of the Southern Sámi.
