Bon Air Manor (Ellicott City, Maryland)

Located in Ellicott City, Howard County, Maryland, United States, New Cut Landfill, is also referred to as Worthington Park, Worthington Dog Park, and Worthington Elementary. Rock Hill College operated a recreation facility named "Forty Acres on New Cut" between 1894 and 1922.The 83 acre new cut landfill closed in 1980. In 1985 the county sought bids from a Pennsylvania company to burn methane gas in generators. New Cut groundwater was found to be contaminated from deposits of paint solvents. In 1993, the county approved installation of city water around New Cut after contaminants including trichloroethane exceeded federal drinking water levels.In September 2011, 2,000 solar panels were installed on landfill property converted to parkland and later a solar farm. The panels were paid for by a Maryland Department of Energy Grant.

The Spring Hill Farm is a historic slave plantation located in Ellicott City in Howard County, Maryland, United States. The site south of the Patapsco River produced Native American arrowheads in routine farming. The farm is part of a 1695 900 acre land patent named "Chews Resolution Manor". The property was a gift of Caleb Dorsey of Belmont to his daughter Rebecca and her husband Charles Ridgely creating the parcel "Rebecca's Lot". The main house was built about 1804. The property contains the Spring Hill quarters, a stone structure dating to 1790 built originally as a home for Edward Hill Dorsey. The structure has served as slave quarters, a carriage house with modern remodeling of the interior in the 1950s. The farm was later owned by the Clark family who also resided to the south at Fairfield Farm. Owner Garnett "Booker" Clark used the outbuildings to make and store whiskey during prohibition. Garnett's brother James "Booker" Clark maintained his credibility as a revenue officer by destroying the operation. About ten outbuildings of the farm are identified in 1790 tax rolls. By the 1970s the farm had been subdivided down to two parcels totaling 11 acres, with a large power-line easement and the New Cut Landfill facility occupying the northern tracts. In the year 2000, Glen Mar Church purchased 21 acres of the farmland from the Baugher family with an address of 4701 New Cut Road. In 2004 groundbreaking occurred and in 2008 the church relocated to the site from Glen Mar Road.

Wheatfield, also known by Wheatfields, Resolution Manor, or Wheatfield Farm is a historic home located south of Ellicott City, Howard County, Maryland. Wheatfield started on land patented to Samuel Chew in 1695 as Chews Resolution Manor and Chews Vineyard. Caleb Dorsey inherited the land in 1718. In 1850 the 202-acre farm was purchased for $9,000 by James Clark. One son, James Clark Jr. left the farm to join the Confederate Army of Northern Virginia, surviving prison camp to return as a cattle broker. His other son John Lawrence Clark (1855-) was born at Wheatfield. He maintained the farm raising a family that would be closely associated with Howard County business and politics. The Wheatfield manor house is built in progressively smaller sections in the "Telescope style" starting in 1802. A water table runs along the foundation of the property. The farm was sold to the Widdup family in 1950 for $50,000. In 1977 the property was owned by the Doll family, who had subdivided the land to 11 acres. The manor house still stands, as of a Howard County Historical Society tour in December 2016, amidst a residential housing development of the same name.

Sheppard Pratt at Ellicott City was a private psychiatric hospital located in Ellicott City, Maryland. It had a 20-bed adult unit, an 18-bed co-occurring disorders unit, an 18-bed crisis stabilization unit, a 22-bed adolescent unit, and an adult day hospital. The hospital was owned and operated by the Towson, Maryland based Sheppard Pratt Health System Prior to its purchase by Sheppard Pratt the facility was known as Taylor Manor, one of only a dozen privately owned psychiatric facilities in the nation. The hospital closed with the opening of Sheppard Pratt at Elkridge in 2020. Most of the original structures were already demolished prior to the campus closure, as new plans for the Taylor Highlands development were already underway.

Chews Resolution Manor, also known as Avoca, Resolution Manor, is a historic home and slave plantation located south of Ellicott City, Howard County, Maryland. Avoca was patented by Samuel Chew in 1695 as "Chews Resolution Manor" and "Chews Vineyard". In 1877, the property was listed as part of the prominent Dr. Michael Pue's estate of 176-acres sold to Alfred W. Thoms. The land at the time was described as being "on the road from the Columbia Turnpike to Elkridge Landing and to Waterloo at the terminus of the 'New Cut Road' ... The neighborhood is noted for the salubrity of its climate, the beauty of its scenery, and the culture and elegance of its residents. Mrs. Comfort W. Dorsey, Messrs. James Clark, John C. White, Henry Winter, I. Monroe Mercer and Captain Jonett U.S. Navy, are among the nearest neighbors. ... The Dwelling is of Granite ... The Barn is immense."

Lilburn Cottages are a group of historic cottages part of Liburn Mansion, located in Ellicott City, Howard County, Maryland. The cottages were built on an original 2,500-acre land grant named the Valley of Owen. The Gothic Revival Lilburn Mansion was built on College Avenue for Baltimore foundry owner Henry Richard Hazlehurst in 1857. The original 20-acre site has been subdivided down to 8 acres, and the guesthouse and carport outbuildings demolished. The site of the cottages was subdivided into a 6.75-acre parcel, which allowed the portion of the historic Lilburn complex to fall outside of the Ellicott City Historic district development protections.In 2013, owners Ronald and Gail Spahn allowed the Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services to burn the historic structures, including the adjacent Lilburn (Hammond) Cottage and Grimes house, before subdividing the property. Spahn's Autumn Development Corporation used Howard County slope stabilization legislation to help fund clearing the historic wooded site for single-family homes. KB homes marketed the subdivision as Autumn Overlook.

The site of the structure is on an original 2,500-acre land grant named the Valley of Owen. The gothic revival mansion was built on College avenue for Baltimore foundry owner Henry Richard Hazlehurst in 1857. The house has architectural features that included a bell tower and solarium. A 1923 fire destroyed the front parlor and interior. The original 20 acres site has been subdivided down to 8 acres with the guesthouse and carport outbuildings demolished.In later years, the mansion has been popularized by haunted house storytellers.

Rock Hill College was a boys' boarding school located in Ellicott City, Maryland. The school was divided into two departments: preparatory (for ages nine and up) and collegiate. The curriculum was based on physical education, sciences, and classical studiesRock Hill College was founded in 1824 as Rock Hill Academy and purchased in 1857 by the Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools (known as the Christian Brothers); Rock Hill College is sometimes referred in older publications as the Christian Brothers College. In 1865 The College was incorporated as Howard County's only college and construction of the four-story stone building was completed. During the Civil War, the college basement served as a hospital for Northern and Southern troops. In 1866, Brother Azarias (Patrick Francis Mullany) was called to be a professor of mathematics and literature at Rock Hill College. He was President of Rock Hill from 1879 to 1886. Baltimore architect George A. Frederick was involved in the architectural design of Rock Hill College. Classes included Greek and Latin. Though not a parochial school, St. Paul's Catholic Church in Ellicott City created a chapel for the students of Rock Hill College in 1859. The side chapel eventually became part of the church proper. The building was destroyed by fire on 16 January 1923 while most were in attendance at a basketball game. A chimney fire spread to the dormitory roof, burning all but the gymnasium. The school merged with Calvert Hall College High School in Baltimore. A new elementary school was built within the existing walls in 1926 and remained until 1976, when Worthington Elementary School opened. In 1991, the property was rehabilitated into Greystone condominiums, a residential condominium and townhouse development.

Saint Paul Catholic Church is a Catholic parish located in Ellicott City, Maryland. It was founded in 1838 and is part of the Archdiocese of Baltimore. Babe Ruth married here. It is a two-story ashlar granite church which faces north. It is three bays wide and four bays deep. Its front facade includes two twin Roman arch windows each topped by a rose window, enclosed within a Roman arch lintel with keystone.

Hagen House, or Omar Jones House is a historic home located in Ellicott City, Maryland. It is a two-story stone house constructed in the mid-19th century. The home is associated with Omar J. Jones, a prominent Howard County politician and school teacher, who championed the charter form of government for Howard County. The building was built by William Davis for his three sisters in 1845. It was built along the original Columbia turnpike road between Washington and Ellicott City, and is noted on Hopkins 1878 Atlas. Tall vertical windows were added in 1890. The house was later owned by the Josephine Ray and Harry J Bloom, Clara Klashaus, Caleb and Elizabeth Rogers, Joseph and Ella Mae Howes, H. Deets Warfield and P. Stanly Gault. The Gault family and Jones family restored the house reducing the three sided porch to one side.

The Baltimore and Ohio Ellicott City Station Museum in Ellicott City, Maryland, is the oldest remaining passenger railway station in the United States, and one of the oldest in the world. It was built in 1830 as the terminus of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad line from Baltimore to the town then called Ellicott's Mills, and a facility to service steam locomotives at the end of the 13-mile (21 km) run. The station, a National Historic Landmark, is now used as a museum.

Ellicott City is an unincorporated community and census-designated place in, and the county seat of, Howard County, Maryland, United States. Part of the Baltimore metropolitan area, its population was 75,947 at the 2020 census, making it the most populous unincorporated county seat in the country. Ellicott City's historic downtown – the Ellicott City Historic District – lies in the valleys of the Tiber and Patapsco rivers. The historic district includes the Ellicott City Station, which is the oldest surviving train station in the United States, having been built in 1830 as the first terminus of the original B&O Railroad line. The historic district is often called "Historic Ellicott City" or "Old Ellicott City" to distinguish it from the surrounding suburbs that extend south to Columbia and west to West Friendship.
