Three Ridges Wilderness is a U.S. Wilderness Area in the Glenwood/Pedlar Ranger District of the George Washington and Jefferson National Forests. The wilderness area is located just east of the Blue Ridge Parkway between the Tye River and Wintergreen Ski Resort. It is separated from the boundary of the Priest Wilderness by Virginia State Route 56. The wilderness consists of 4,702 acres (19.03 km2) and ranges in elevation from 1,000 feet (305 m) at the Tye River to 3,970 feet (1,210 m) at the summit of Three Ridges Mountain.

Ramsey is an unincorporated community in Nelson County, Virginia, United States.

Lesesne State Forest is a Virginia state forest located in Nelson County. Its 422 acres (1.71 km2) are dedicated to the preservation of the American chestnut and to wildlife management activities. It is open to the public during daylight hours.

Tyro is an unincorporated community in Nelson County, Virginia, United States. It was among the communities severely affected by flash flooding from Hurricane Camille in 1969.It was named from the English word tyro, which also means "beginner" or "novice".Pharsalia and the Tyro Mill are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Tyro Mill is a historic grist mill located at Tyro, Nelson County, Virginia. It is a multi-story frame mill built in 1846–47 with an addition made in the late nineteenth century. It has a metal-sheathed gable roof and a stone foundation. There is an overshot metal wheel in a stone wheel well and remnants of the head race. The mill contains original machinery including wood gears and drive shafts, two runs of millstones, and a husk frame in the basement gear pit. Also on the property is a mid-19th century log dwelling—traditionally identified as the miller's house—with twentieth century frame additions and front porch.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2006.

Beech Grove is an unincorporated community in Nelson County, Virginia, United States.

Mt. Torry Furnace, also known as Virginia Furnace, is a historic iron furnace located at Sherando, Augusta County, Virginia. It was built in 1804, and is a stone square trapezoid measuring 30 feet at the base and 40 feet tall. The original cold-blast charcoal stack was converted for hot blast in 1853. It shut down in 1855, then was reactivated in 1863 to support the Confederate States Army. The furnace was destroyed in June 1864 during the American Civil War by Brigadier General Alfred N. Duffié, then rebuilt in January 1865. It operated until 1884.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974.

Mine Bank Mountain is a 3,488-foot (1,063 m) peak in the U.S. state of Virginia, in the Saint Mary's Wilderness near the Blue Ridge Parkway. The mountain was the site of the 2023 Virginia plane crash, which struck 300 feet (100 m) below the peak, killing all four on board.The mountain is named for nearby manganese-iron ore mines.Hikes up the mountain can be accomplished on the Mine Bank Trail, a 10-mile (16 km) loop, with a trailhead on the Blue Ridge Parkway (37°54.682′N 79°05.202′W).

Elk Hill is a historic house and farm complex located near Nellysford, Nelson County, Virginia. Operated for more than 250 years, it is one of the earliest extant farms in Nelson County. The 173-acre (0.70 km2) rural farm bounded in part by the South Fork of the Rockfish River and Reid's Creek. The main house is a substantial two-story, three-bay wide frame dwelling with a central hall plan, with the original portion built between 1790 and 1810. Since Samuel Reid sold the farm in 1805 to Hawes Coleman (whose descendants owned it until 1977, it is unclear which family constructed the current house, particularly since the property contained the ruins of a smaller structure which was occupied into the 20th century. The house underwent a series of 19th-century additions and a major remodeling in 1902 in the neoclassical style. The property includes structures showing the succession of major crops in the area, from tobacco in the 18th and 19th centuries, to apples in the early 20th centuries. The current owner began a vineyard and winery late in the 20th century, partly on land once operated as High View Farm (ca. 1830s), as well as issued in 2005 a conservation easement to the Virginia Outdoors Foundation to protect its natural habitat and rural character. The contributing outbuildings include: smokehouse, built in the last quarter of the 18th century; tobacco barn, built circa 1790–1810; 19th century chicken house, two seat outhouse, and double crib barn; garages built in 1902 and in 1955; and a stone boundary/retaining wall, built in the last quarter of the 18th century.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2007.

Bryant is an unincorporated community in Nelson County, Virginia, United States. It was among the communities severely affected by flash flooding from Hurricane Camille in 1969.The Bryant family remains strong in Bryant Va. Descendants, who trace their roots to the Massie Family, occupy much of the area.

On June 4, 2023, a privately operated Cessna 560 Citation V carrying three passengers and a pilot crashed at approximately 3:23 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time (EDT) in the George Washington National Forest, Virginia, killing the occupants, after the crew had been found unresponsive. The plane had previously entered the no-fly zone over Washington, D.C., and was intercepted by F-16 fighter jets before it crashed. A preliminary report was released by the National Transportation Safety Board on June 21, 2023, and the investigation into the crash is ongoing as of August 2023.

River Bluff is a historic home located near Wintergreen, Nelson County, Virginia. It is sited on a steep bank overlooking the South Fork of the Rockfish River. It is a three-part Flemish bond brick house consisting of a two-story central pavilion with one-story flanking wings. The main block was constructed about 1785, and the house achieved its final form by about 1805.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.
