New Quay or Newquay (Irish: An Chéibh Nua) is a small coastal settlement in County Clare, Ireland. It takes its name from the quay built at this point on Galway Bay in the 19th century. New Quay is in the civil parish of Abbey and the historical barony of Burren. It is within the ecclesiastical parish of Carron & New Quay in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Galway, Kilmacduagh and Kilfenora. The former holiday home of Lady Gregory, Mount Vernon Lodge, is located in a neighbouring townland, also called New Quay. In the ITA Topographical and General Survey, published by the Irish Tourist Association in 1942, New Quay is described as "scarcely [..] a village as the houses are very scattered. However there is a Guards station, a P.O., and two shops". A pub and restaurant on the quayside, Linnane's Bar, is located in the former post office building.

Aughinish (Irish: Eachinis), also Aughnish, is a small island and townland in Oughtmama Parish of the Barony of Burren in north County Clare, Ireland. It is on the south shore of Galway Bay, 11 km (7 mi) northwest of Kinvarra. The island is approximately 2 miles (3 km) wide and 1 mile (1.6 km) from the northernmost tip to the southernmost point and has approximately fifty inhabitants. The island was originally connected to County Clare, but that connection was lost due to the tsunami generated by the massive 1755 Lisbon earthquake. The British built the existing 0.5 miles (0.8 km) causeway to County Galway to service their troops in the Martello Tower constructed on the island after 1811. To this day, land access to Aughinish, County Clare is still only through County Galway.

Aughinish Tower is a Martello tower at Aughinish, County Clare, Ireland. It was built as a signal and gun tower to defend Ireland against invasion by the French during the Napoleonic Wars. The tower's construction dates back to March 1811 when 6 acres (2.4 ha) of land for the site was purchased from a Major Lynch. While the Aughinish Tower is the same design as the Finavarra Tower, its small ordnance storage building no longer exists. This structure was previously recorded as being located just west of the tower. The tower itself had accommodation for one officer and thirty-nine men on the first floor. It also contained a basement water tank, a magazine, cellar and store at ground level. An original twenty four pound cannon was still in place until 1992.In the 1950s, townspeople from Aughinish used the tower for dancing and Ceilidh. The parties were held on special occasions such as Christmas, Easter, and for local weddings. People from New Quay often rowed across the inlet to attend the gatherings. In 1960, a man named Duffy from Limerick purchased the tower from the Land Commission and sold the property in 1987 for an undisclosed amount of money. The current owner is from Galway and he has refurbished the tower as a residence. A steel stairway has been erected and secured to the outside of the tower.

The Battle of Lough Raska (Irish: Loch Rasca) or Battle of Corcomroe (Irish: Corca Mrua) took place on 15 August 1317 near Corcomroe Abbey in north County Clare, Ireland. It was part of a fight for control of the Uí Briain chieftaincy and part of the Anglo-Norman wars in Ireland. Forces loyal to Muircheartach Ó Briain were commanded by Diarmait Ó Briain in a pitched battle against Donnchadh Ó Briain, who was an ally of Mathghamhain Ó Briain and Richard de Clare. Both armies were about 9,000 men each. Diarmait Ó Briain's forces were victorious. This would be a precursor to the Battle of Dysert O'Dea.

Finavarra Tower is a Martello tower in Finavarra, County Clare, Ireland. Built during the Napoleonic wars in 1812-16, and situated on Finavarra Point, the tower protected the north-eastern side of Ballyvaughan Bay and the south-western entrance of New Quay harbour from possible attack from France. British military engineers built many such fortifications as signal towers to protect the coast against a French invasion. Most of these towers are oval or round and stand between forty and sixty feet high. Their staircases were incorporated within the walls and the doorway was usually some distance above ground level. This ovoid tower had three gun placements on the roof. The usual garrison of these towers was about ten men who would have lived in a nearby barracks. The remains of such a barracks lie north-east of the tower. However, nearby Aughinish Tower which is thought to have been of similar and contemporaneous construction, included quarters for around 40 men. At the site of Finavarra Tower, a small stone has the following: "This property including the Martello Tower and Appurtenances was bequeathed to the State for the benefit of the Nation by MRS. MAUREEN EMERSON who died on the 4th day of November 1999."

Abbey (Irish: An Mhainistir) is a civil parish in the Barony of Burren in County Clare, Ireland.

Corcomroe Abbey (Irish: Mainistir Chorca Mrua) is an early 13th-century Cistercian monastery located in the north of the Burren region of County Clare, Ireland, a few miles east of the village of Ballyvaughan in the Barony of Burren. It was once known as "St. Mary of the Fertile Rock", a reference to the Burren's fertile soil. The Gothic ruins feature stone carvings that are considered to be among the finest in a Cistercian church in Ireland.: 7  The abbey appears in W.B. Yeats' play The Dreaming of Bones.: 14  They constitute a National Monument and are open to the public.

Ballyvaughan parish is a Catholic parish in County Clare and part of the Kilfenora Deanery of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Galway, Kilmacduagh and Kilfenora. It is located in the northern side of The Burren, bordering Galway Bay. As of 2021, the parish priest was Richard Flanagan. The parish is an amalgamation of the medieval parishes of Drumcreehy, Gleninagh, Kilonaghan and Rathborney. The main church of Ballyvaughan parish is the Church of Saint John the Baptist in Ballyvaughan, build and twice rebuild after damaging storms in the period 1858–1866. The second church of the parish is the Church of St. Patrick in Fanore. Building started in 1866 and dedication was in 1870.

Ballyvaughan or Ballyvaghan (Irish: Baile Uí Bheacháin, meaning "Ó Beachán's townland") is a small harbour village in County Clare, Ireland. It is located on the N67 road on the south shores of Galway Bay, in the northwest corner of The Burren. This position on the coast road and the close proximity to many of the area's sights has turned the village into a local center of tourism activity. At the time of the 2011 census Ballyvaughan had a population of 258. The area was officially classified as part of the West Clare Gaeltacht, an Irish-speaking community, until 1956.

Drumcreehy or Dromcreehy (Irish: Droim Críche) is a civil parish in County Clare, Ireland. It contains the village of Ballyvaughan.

Aill na Cronain (Irish: Aill na Crónáin; Cronan's cliff) is an inland west-facing limestone crag in The Burren in County Clare, Ireland. It is popular with novice rock climbers due to the number of short single-pitch 10–20 metre rock climbing routes in the S to HS rock climbing grades. It is beside the Aillwee Caves.

Aillwee Cave (Irish: Aill Bhuí) is a cave system in the karst landscape of the Burren in County Clare, Ireland. The name Aillwee is derived from the Irish Aill Bhuí which means "yellow cliff". Privately owned, it forms part of the Aillwee Cave and Birds of Prey Centre attraction.
