Killone

Killone Abbey (Irish: Mainistir Chill Eoin), situated on the banks of Killone Lake some 3 miles south of Ennis, County Clare, was an abbey of Canonesses Regular founded in 1190 by Donal Mor O'Brien, King of Thomond and Munster and dedicated to Saint John. The ruins of the abbey, accessible through land used for grazing cattle, are located in the grounds of Newhall House, and include substantial remains of the abbey church together with a crypt. A narrow (and somewhat restrictive) stone stairway leads between the altar and the east window to a ledge atop the remains of the south wall of the church, where an overview of the grounds may be seen with care (there being no safety features incorporated). There is currently no access as of Oct 18, 2021. The gate is closed with a notice of no trespassing and a warning of a bull in the field.

Newhall is an Irish country estate near Ennis in County Clare, which includes a 17-bedroom 17th-century Georgian country house. The estate, held by successive members of the gentry, contains a holy well, and has an associated legend concerning a mermaid. It also includes gate lodges, woodlands, parklands, lakes and Killone Abbey, a national monument (founded 1190 by Donald Mor O’Brien, King of Thomond, for nuns of the rule of St. Augustine) and Saint John the Baptist Holy Well which is recognised by the Catholic church as a miracle well for sore eyes, headaches and toothaches.

The Alice and Gwendoline Cave is a limestone cave in County Clare, Ireland. It is known as the site of brown bear bones bearing the mark of butchery, which have pushed back the first known human habitation of Ireland by over two thousand years.

Ballyea is a Gaelic Athletic Association club in the parish of Ballyea/Clarecastle in County Clare, Ireland founded in 1935.

Éire Óg, Inis GAA Club is a Gaelic Athletic Association club in Ennis, Clare, Ireland. The club plays both Hurling and Gaelic Football at all age levels. Their most recent major achievement came on 7 November 2021 when they won the Clare Senior Football Championship for the nineteenth time, defeating Kilmurry-Ibrickane by 1–11 to 0–09 in Cusack Park. Prior to the official club formation in 1952, the Ennis Dalcassians represented the county capital. The Ennis Faughs were an amalgamation of the club with local rivals St. Joseph's, Doora-Barefield. They competed together from 1944 to 1956 and 1994-1995 when both clubs were not actually competing at senior level themselves. The Ennis Faughs competed in thirteen county football finals, winning five Senior Football titles in 1947, 1948, 1952, 1954 and again in 1994. They also won an Intermediate Hurling title in 1945, and an Intermediate Football title in 1946. When combined with their predecessors the Ennis Dalcassians, Éire Óg are the most successful club in Clare at senior level. A combined total of 34 county senior titles have been won by the capital town, 15 Senior Hurling titles (1990) and 19 Senior Football titles (2021).

Clarecastle GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club in the village of Clarecastle in County Clare, Ireland. In existence since 1887.

County Clare (Irish: Contae an Chláir) is a county in Ireland, in the Southern Region and the province of Munster, bordered on the west by the Atlantic Ocean. Clare County Council is the local authority. The county had a population of 118,817 at the 2016 census. The county town and largest settlement is Ennis.

Clarecastle (An Clár or Irish: Droichead an Chláir, meaning 'Bridge of the Plateau') is a village just south of Ennis in County Clare, Ireland. From 2008 to 2016 the village saw a significant population increase due to its proximity to Ennis, Shannon, and Limerick.

The R475 road, known as the Kilrush Road, is a regional road in Ireland, located in central County Clare.

Saint Flannan's College is an Irish co-educational secondary school located in Ennis, County Clare, which takes its name from the 7th century patron saint of the Dál gCais. Formerly an all-boys boarding school, the first girls class was entered in 2002 and in 2005 the boarding school was closed. In 2003 an extension which added over 20 new rooms to the college was completed. A measure of the expansion that has taken place over the past thirty years is that in 1962, there were some 370 pupils, 140 of whom were day boys. Only 37 teachers were in attendance. By 2004, enrollment had risen to more than 1,001 students. Staff numbers had risen to 60. In September 2002, co-ed classes were introduced in First Year. In September 2003, a new wing containing extensive new facilities was opened. In the 2010-11 school year there were 1,206 students.
