The River Tib is a minor tributary of the River Medlock in Manchester, England. It has been culverted along its entire length since about 1783 and now runs beneath Manchester city centre. Tib Street (53°29′01″N 2°14′05″W) and Tib Lane are named after the watercourse. During the Roman period, the Tib marked the boundary of the vicus or settlement of Mamucium; the river continued to mark Manchester's boundary until medieval times, as well as providing drinking water. A notion concerning the Tib's name, coined by Geoffrey Ashworth in his book The Lost Rivers of Manchester, is that the river was given its name by homesick Roman soldiers after the River Tiber, but with the word shortened to reflect the size difference between the two rivers. Alternatively, the name may derive from the Celtic word for "watercourse".The river's source is a spring in Miles Platting (53°29′36″N 2°13′08″W), from where it flows underneath Oldham Road and the eponymous Tib Street to reach the city centre. After flowing underneath West Mosley Street, the Tib crosses Princess Street to flow underneath the Manchester Town Hall Extension, the Central Library and the Midland Hotel's dining room, before joining the Medlock at Gaythorn (now First Street, 53°28′23″N 2°14′52″W), close to Deansgate railway station.Parts of the Rochdale Canal around Lock 89 (Tib Lock) can be emptied into the River Tib by opening a small, original wooden trap door installed during construction. Lock 89 was one of the bottom nine locks opened in 1800.

The Greater Manchester County Record Office (GMCRO) is an archive of primary materials relating to the heritage of Greater Manchester, in North West England; it is located in Manchester city centre, in Archives + in Manchester's Central Library. Opened in 1976, the main function of the GMCRO is to store historical records relating to Greater Manchester, and to make them available for members of the public for research. There are 4 miles (6 km) of shelving of records, which date back to 1197. The Greater Manchester County Record Office is funded by the Association of Greater Manchester Authorities. Before it moved to its present location the record office was at 56 Marshall Street, New Cross, M4 5FU.

The Castle Hotel is a historic public house in Manchester, England. The Campaign for Real Ale considers it to have an "interior of exceptional national historic importance."

Oldham Street is in Manchester city centre and forms part of the city's historic Northern Quarter district. The Northern Quarter is dominated by buildings that were built before World War II.The street runs from Piccadilly to Great Ancoats Street on the edge of Ancoats, beyond which it continues northwards as Oldham Road, the A62. The street is part of Manchester which is on a tentative list as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Methodist Central Hall stands on the east side.Until the 1970s Oldham Street formed one of the principal shopping areas of Manchester city centre. However the construction of the large indoor Arndale Centre during this decade to the west saw most of the well known and long established high street stores close or relocated.

Angel Gardens is a 110 m (360 ft) tall, 35-storey building of 466 rental apartments in Manchester, England. It forms part of the 20-acre (8-hectare) NOMA redevelopment. In January 2017, the investor Apache Capital Partners and the developer Moda Living secured £85 million in financing from the German bank Deutsche Pfandbriefbank.Following the collapse of the main contractor Carillion on 15 January 2018, construction was put on hold; two weeks later, the contract was transferred to Caddick Construction and construction re-commenced.Angel Gardens was co-designed by architects Fuse Studios and HAUS Collective.

The Northern Quarter (N4 or NQ) is an area of Manchester city centre, England, between Piccadilly station, Victoria station and Ancoats, centred on Oldham Street, just off Piccadilly Gardens. It was defined and named in the 1990s as part of the regeneration and gentrification of Manchester. A centre of alternative and bohemian culture, the area includes Newton Street (borders with Piccadilly Basin), Great Ancoats Street (borders with Ancoats), Back Piccadilly (borders with Piccadilly Gardens) and Swan Street/High Street (borders with Shudehill/Arndale). Popular streets include Oldham Street, Tib Street, Newton Street, Lever Street, Dale Street, Hilton Street and Thomas Street.

The Daily Express Building, located on Great Ancoats Street, Manchester, England, is a Grade II* listed building which was designed by engineer Sir Owen Williams. It was built in 1939 to house one of three Daily Express offices; the other two similar buildings are located in London and Glasgow. The pre-World War II building is notable for its timeless, "space-age" quality and is often mistaken for being much younger than it is due to its futuristic avant garde appearance. The building is futurist art deco, specifically streamline moderne with its horizontal lines and curved corners. It is clad in a combination of opaque and vitrolite glass. It was considered highly radical at the time, and incorporates what was at the time a growing technology, curtain walling.Unlike the London and Glasgow Express buildings, the Manchester building was designed by the engineer for all three buildings, Sir Owen Williams. It is considered the best of the three Express Buildings, and is admired by architects (such as Norman Foster) and Mancunians alike. The building was Grade II*-listed in 1974, just 35 years after its initial construction, and remains Greater Manchester's youngest II*-listed building.

Shudehill Mill or Simpson's Mill was a very early cotton mill in Manchester city centre, England. It was built in 1782 by for Richard Arkwright and his partners and destroyed by fire in 1854. It was rebuilt and finally destroyed during the Manchester Blitz in 1940. One of Arkwright's larger mills, it was built three years before his patent lapsed. The mill had a 30 feet diameter water wheel and a Newcomen atmospheric engine was installed. Doubts remain as to why the engine was installed, whether it was a failed attempt to power a mill directly by steam or was modified to assist the wheel. It is possible that this engine, constructed by Hunt, could have been one of the 13 engines installed in Manchester mills by Joshua Wrigley. Water from the upper storage pond turned the water wheel to drive the mill. The steam engine recycled water from the lower storage pond to the upper storage pond. Three more Boulton and Watt engines were installed to power the increasing number of spindles.

Afflecks (formerly Affleck's Palace) is an indoor market in Manchester, England, in the city's Northern Quarter on the junction of Church Street/Tib Street and Dale Street with Oldham Street. Dozens of independent stalls, small shops and boutiques operate in the one building. The building was once home to Affleck & Brown, one of the city's principal department stores. A bar on the original site opened in 2015, under the Affleck & Brown name.

The Greater Manchester Police Museum is a former police station converted into a museum and archives detailing the history of policing in Greater Manchester, England. It was home to Manchester City Police and then its successors Manchester and Salford Police and Greater Manchester Police from 1879 until 1979.Upon its conversion to a museum in 1981 the interior was redesigned to reflect its past and now serves as a reminder of Victorian policing. The building was Grade II listed in 1994 as Former Newton Street Police Station.
