Riverside General Hospital

Third Ward is an area of Houston, Texas, United States, that evolved from one of the six historic wards of the same name. It is located in the southeast Houston management district. Third Ward, located inside the 610 Loop is immediately southeast of Downtown Houston and to the east of the Texas Medical Center. The ward became the center of Houston's African-American community. Third Ward is nicknamed "The Tre".Robert D. Bullard, a sociologist teaching at Texas Southern University, stated that Third Ward is "the city's most diverse black neighborhood and a microcosm of the larger black Houston community."

The Houston Negro Hospital School of Nursing Building is a school building at the Houston Negro Hospital complex, now named Riverside General Hospital, located at the intersection of Holman Avenue and Ennis Street in Houston, Harris County, Texas. The Houston Negro Hospital School of Nursing has the distinction of being the first school in Houston created for the express purpose of training black nurses. The attached medical facility, the first non-profit hospital for Black patients in Houston, provided work for black physicians who were normally barred from admitting patients to segregated Houston hospitals.

Baylor College of Medicine Academy at Ryan (BCMAR) is a magnet middle school in Houston Independent School District (HISD), located in the Third Ward, Houston, Texas. It is located in the former Ryan Middle School. It is in association with the Baylor College of Medicine. It is south of Downtown Houston, A press release stated that the school was to be modeled after the Michael E. DeBakey High School for Health Professions.

James D. Ryan Middle School was a secondary school located in Houston, Texas, United States. The Baylor College of Medicine Academy at Ryan, a magnet middle school, now occupies the campus. The school, which served grades 6 through 8, is a part of the Houston Independent School District. It served much Third Ward area and a very small portion of Midtown Houston. The campus is south of Downtown Houston, and in proximity to the University of Houston.

Project Row Houses is a development in the Third Ward area of Houston, Texas. Project Row Houses includes a group of shotgun houses restored in the 1990s. Eight houses serve as studios for visiting artists. Those houses are art studios for art related to African-American themes. A row behind the art studio houses single mothers.

Eldorado Ballroom is a former nightclub in the Third Ward, Houston, on the other side of the road from Emancipation Park. The white brick and stucco Art Moderne building has 10,000 square feet (930 m2) of space.Caroline Love of Houston Public Media described it as "A pillar of Houston’s historic music scene". Leigh Cutler, in Houston History Magazine, stated that the Eldorado Ballroom "was representative of the last pinnacle of black culture in Houston before Jim Crow laws dissoived."The name refers to a nickname of the Savoy Ballroom in New York City.Musical styles at the venue included blues and jazz.

Emancipation Park and Emancipation Community Center are located at 3018 Emancipation Ave in the Third Ward area of Houston. It is the oldest park in Houston, and the oldest in Texas. In portions of the Jim Crow period it was the sole public park in the area available to African-Americans.

Yellowstone Academy is a non-profit, non-denominational Christian, private school in the Third Ward, Houston, Texas. Serving pre-kindergarten to grade 4, it was established to educate low-income African-American children in the Third Ward area, and it is one of three Houston area private schools aimed at low income families. It occupies several buildings, including the former Frederick Douglass Elementary School. It previously served middle school students, but is now co-located with Yellowstone College Prep.

The Barbara Jordan-Mickey Leland School of Public Affairs, also referred to as BJMLSPA, is the public policy school within Texas Southern University (TSU) in Houston, Texas, United States. For students interested in formulating and shaping public policy, the School offers many opportunities for learning, research, professional development, community partnerships, and public engagement. Located in Houston, the nation's fourth largest city, the BJMLSPA offers opportunities for students to study, observe, and interact with policymakers and decision makers, test new ideas, develop new models, and implement solution-driven strategies.

Texas Southern University (Texas Southern or TSU) is a public historically black university in Houston, Texas. The university is one of the largest and most comprehensive historically black college or universities in the United States with nearly 8,000 students enrolled and over 100 academic programs. The university is a member school of the Thurgood Marshall College Fund and it is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. It is classified among "R2: Doctoral Universities – High research activity".Texas Southern University is an important institution in Houston's Third Ward. Alvia Wardlaw of Cite: The Architecture + Design Review of Houston wrote that the university serves as "the cultural and community center of" the Third Ward area where it is located, in addition to being its university. The university also serves as a notable economic resource for Greater Houston, contributing over $500 million to the region's gross sales and being directly and indirectly responsible for over 3,000 jobs.Texas Southern University intercollegiate sports teams, the Tigers, compete in NCAA Division I and the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC). Texas Southern is also home of the Ocean of Soul marching band.

Health and Physical Education Arena (H&PE Arena) is an 8,100-seat multi-purpose arena in Houston, Texas on the campus of Texas Southern University. It was designed by Houston architect Willie C. Jordan Jr. and built in 1989 and is home to the Texas Southern University Tigers basketball and volleyball teams. The arena played host to Houston Cougars men's basketball games during the 2017–18 season, as well as all Houston Cougars women's basketball home games in the same season, due to renovations of their arena, and hosted both teams for the first month of the 2018–19 season due to construction delays to the Cougars' home arena. Originally, the plan was to play most of the Cougars' men's conference games as well as a non-conference game against Arkansas at Toyota Center, with the remainder of the games at TSU. However, all of the games were eventually scheduled for H&PE Arena. H&PE Arena had previously hosted Houston's first-round game against Akron in the 2017 National Invitation Tournament due to the renovations at UH. The arena also hosted home games during the 2018 JBA season for the Houston Ballers of the Junior Basketball Association. The H&PE Arena hosted a Democratic presidential debate on September 12, 2019.

Jack Yates Senior High School is a public high school located at 3650 Alabama Street, very near Texas Southern University, in the historic Third Ward in Houston, Texas. Yates High School handles grades nine through twelve and is part of the Houston Independent School District (HISD). Yates was named after Reverend John Henry "Jack" Yates, a former slave and a minister. Jack Yates and other leading blacks established the Houston Baptist Academy. Within a decade, the success of the school prompted Reverend Yates to reorganize the Houston Baptist Academy as the Houston College, the school offered a special opportunity to the black children of the community who sought an alternative to the Colored High School of the public school system. Yates has HISD's magnet program for communications: broadcast TV, radio, print, and photography. Yates also houses a maritime studies magnet program.In 2010, Paul Knight of the Houston Press wrote that "the school remains a symbol of solidarity in the Third Ward."In June 2016, members of the Jack Yates and HISD communities held a ground-breaking ceremony for the new campus. A $59.4 million campus was completed next to the old campus in summer 2018.
