White Lake Water Aerodrome

The White Lake fen is a small wetland on the shore of White Lake in Lanark County, Ontario in Canada. It has been designated both an Area of Natural and Scientific Interest and a Provincially Significant Wetland; it is also listed as a Special Place in Lanark County. Fens are a relatively rare wetland habitat in the region of Lanark County; they can occur on either marble or limestone bedrock. White lake has a granite dome along its north shore, while it spreads over marble bedrock to the south. A number of calcareous fens have developed along the south shore. The largest of these has developed in a long narrow arm of the lake, where it stretches for nearly two kilometers and covers 90 ha. This fen has large areas of sedge mat dominated by wooly sedge (Carex lasiocarpa). Two of the unusual plants there are the orchids Pogonia ophioglossoides (see upper photo) and Calopogon tuberosus. There are also many species of ericaceous shrubs including Labrador tea (Ledum groenlandicum), Kalmia angustifolia, and Andromeda glaucophylla. The presence of evergreen shrubs indicates the low nutrient levels in the wetland. In drier locations nearer the shore, there are wet conifer forests with trees including white cedar and black spruce. Fens connected to open water, like this fen, have been found to differ in subtle ways from more isolated fens. This fen is also one of the few Canadian locations for the bogbean buckmoth a species of silk moth that feeds on another typical fen plant, bogbean (Menyanthes trifoliata).

White Lake is a medium-sized lake of Ontario, Canada. It is located in Renfrew County, 60 kilometres (37 mi) west of Ottawa, Ontario near Calabogie to the west and Arnprior to the north. It may be accessed via Highway 417 from Ottawa or Renfrew Country Road 511 from Perth. The town of White Lake lies on the northern shore of the lake. The northern and western shores of White Lake mark the upper limit of the Champlain Sea which flooded the Ottawa Valley at the end of the last ice age. The lake is 16 kilometres (9.9 mi) long with an area of 2,270 hectares (5,600 acres) and a perimeter of 98 kilometres (61 mi). The lake is marked in Canada by National Resources Canada with the CGNDB Unique Identifier: FDDES.

The Bathurst District was a historic district in Upper Canada. It was created in 1822 from the Johnstown District. Containing Carleton County, it existed until 1849. The district town was Perth.

Alexander Stewart Provincial Park is a nature reserve in McNab/Braeside, Renfrew County, Ontario, Canada, about 11 kilometres (7 mi) west of the centre of Arnprior. This nature reserve contains a hardwood forest of several species including maple, American beech, basswood, blue-beech, and bur oak. The subsurface is clay silt, a remnant of the ice age Champlain Sea. The site is at an elevation of 130 metres (430 ft). The property was bought in 1860 by the eponymous Alexander Stewart, and donated by his children to the province in 1966. The park, located at the northwest intersection of Maple Bend Road and Russett Drive, is a non-operating park, meaning there are no facilities or services.

McNab/Braeside is a township in eastern Ontario, Canada, on the south shore of Chats Lake (part of the Ottawa River), straddling the lower Madawaska River in Renfrew County. The township was created on January 1, 1998, when the Village of Braeside amalgamated with McNab Township.

Mount Pakenham is a ski hill to the south-west of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, near the town of Pakenham.

Arnprior Airport (TC LID: CNP3) is a registered aerodrome located adjacent to and south of the town of Arnprior, Ontario, Canada directly behind Arnprior Aerospace Inc. (formerly Boeing Canada Technology). The aerodrome serves chiefly general aviation traffic, including private pilots, MEDEVAC, Ontario Hydro, and the Ontario Provincial Police. The Canadian Forces also use the aerodrome.

Arnprior Water Aerodrome (TC LID: CNB5) is located 1 nautical mile (1.9 km; 1.2 mi) south of the community. It is open from May until November.

Lake Madawaska is the headpond of the Arnprior Generating Station (operated by Ontario Power Generation) near the town of Arnprior, Ontario. The lake was created in 1976 by a hydroelectric dam on the Madawaska River just before it joins the Ottawa River.

Lochwinnoch is an unincorporated community located in Renfrew County, Ontario, Canada, that straddles Horton Township and McNab/Braeside Township. Lochwinnoch Presbyterian Church located at 946 Lochwinnoch Road was opened on November 11, 1894. One of two round barns is located in Lochwinnoch, one of which was built in 1884. Notable residents include The Valley Carver, a regionally known wood carving artist who has been featured in many TV documentaries run by local channels.

Sand Point is a community in the township of McNab/Braeside, Ontario, Canada, along the Ottawa River, roughly six miles to the west of Arnprior on the River Road. During the 1860s and early 1870s it was the terminus of the Canada Central Railway (subsequently acquired by the Canadian Pacific Railway). At one point Sand Point boasted a hotel, a dance hall, a general store, and a post office.

The O'Brien Theatre is a historic cinema in the town of Arnprior, Ontario. Arnprior's first cinema opened on the site in 1906, and the current building dates from 1919. It was originally both a cinema and venue for vaudeville performances. With the growth in popularity of films the building renovated and became a full-time cinema in 1929. It was owned by the Ottawa Valley Amusement Corporation, which owned a number of cinemas in the Ottawa Valley. Several other towns in the area had O'Brien cinemas, including Pembroke (Demolished in 2000) Almonte (Sold in 1970 to become the Royal Bank, currently a thrift store.) The equally historic O'Brien Theatre in Renfrew, Ontario is the only other still open, and both theatres are today open for business. The Arnprior O'Brien theatre is owned by Kevin Marshall, and is no longer affiliated with the Renfrew O'Brien. Not part of any of the major theatre chains, the O'Brien has been owned by several small businesses and individuals over the last decades. In 2000 the theatre was completely refurbished and restored to its 1930s appearance, but with the added second screen on the upper level. In 2012, a second large investment was made to update all of the equipment to Christie digital projectors and Doremi servers, providing new sound and picture. Currently running first release Hollywood film, also film booked through TIFF (Toronto International Film Festival) and "Live at the Met" Operas.
