Reuben Clark House

Phoebus (known as Chesapeake City from 1871–1899) is an incorporated town located in present day Hampton, Virginia on the Virginia Peninsula. In 1900, it was named in honor of local businessman Harrison Phoebus (1840–1886), who is credited with convincing the Chesapeake and Ohio Railway (C&O) to extend its tracks to the town from Newport News. The town was consolidated by a slim margin during a 1952 public referendum with the independent city of Hampton. Phoebus is now an important historic neighborhood of Hampton and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The William H. Trusty House is a historic home in the Phoebus section of Hampton, Virginia. It was built in 1897, and is a 2+1⁄2-story, wood-frame dwelling in the late Victorian style. It features a two-story, spindle-and-bracket porch, with a tent roof and capped by a finial. It was built by William H. Trusty, a successful black businessman and civic leader. Trusty owned a bar, five houses, and two Main Street Business properties. He was the son of freed parents from Prince George County, Virginia.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.

Hampton Veterans Affairs Medical Center National Cemetery (Hampton VAMC National Cemetery) is a United States National Cemetery located in the city of Hampton, Virginia. It encompasses only 0.2 of an acre, and has 22 interments. It is currently closed to new interments.

Hampton Convocation Center is a 7,200-seat multi-purpose arena in Hampton, Virginia. It was built in 1993 and is home to the Hampton University Pirates basketball team. The arena replaced Holland Hall gymnasium, which holds women's volleyball matches and tournaments. The construction cost was about $4 million-$5 million.

Brown Cottage was the first building of the educational institution in Hampton, Virginia now known as Hampton University. Mary S. Peake used the cottage to teach both children and adult freedmen.

Emancipation Oak is a historic tree on the campus of Hampton University in Hampton, Virginia, in the United States. The large, sprawling southern live oak (Quercus virginiana), believed to be over 200 years old, is 98 feet (30 m) in diameter, with branches which extend upward as well as laterally. It is designated one of the 10 Great Trees of the World by the National Geographic Society and is part of the National Historic Landmark district of Hampton University.

Armstrong Stadium is a 12,000-seat multi-purpose stadium in Hampton, Virginia. It opened in 1928. It is home to the Hampton University Pirates football team, lacrosse team, and men's and women's track teams.

The Chamberlin is a retirement community in Hampton, Virginia, overlooking Hampton Roads at Old Point Comfort. It was formerly known as the Chamberlin Hotel, named for the famed restaurateur and original owner John Chamberlin. The nine-story building sits on historic Fort Monroe and overlooks Fort Wool. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, it has been renovated from its former life as a hotel into a luxury retirement community for people aged 55 and up. The second floor has retained the hotel atmosphere while the rest of the floors have been renovated and turned into one- and two-bedroom apartments. A few apartments are used as guest quarters for visiting relatives of residents. The current building opened in 1928 as the Chamberlin-Vanderbilt Hotel, under the direction of Marcellus E. Wright Sr., with Warren and Wetmore consulting. It replaced an earlier Chamberlin Hotel, designed by Washington, D.C., architects John L. Smithmeyer and Paul J. Pelz and completed in 1896, which had in turn replaced the Hygeia. The current building originally had two large cupolas on its roof but these were removed during World War II because they were visible from out in the ocean beyond the Virginia Capes and it was feared that they could potentially aid a hostile German warship cruising offshore in targeting Fort Monroe. They were never replaced after the war.

Fort Algernon (also spelled Fort Algernourne) was established in the fall of 1609 at the mouth of Hampton Roads at Point Comfort in the Virginia Colony. A strategic point for guarding the shipping channel leading from the Chesapeake Bay, Fort Monroe was built there beginning in the 1830s. The area is now known as Old Point Comfort. Long part of Elizabeth City County, the site is now located in the independent city of Hampton, Virginia. After Captain John Smith, President of the Council at Jamestown was deposed in September 1609 and soon returned to England, Captain James Davis, who arrived with one of the ships of the Third Supply, assumed command of the newly built fort in October. It is likely that his pinnace, Virginia, the first ship built in the English colonies (at the Virginia Company of Plymouth's failed Popham Colony in present-day Maine), was anchored nearby. The fort was very close to the Kecoughtans village, and in one of the acts leading to the First Anglo-Powhatan War, this village was attacked and captured by English colonists on July 9, 1610, who built then there another fort, named Fort Charles. In mid-1611, a fire accidentally destroyed all of Fort Algernon except for Davis' own house and the storehouse; however, Davis quickly rebuilt it as before.

Quarters 17, also known as Building 17, Lee's Quarters, and the Tuileries, is a historic officer's quarters located at Fort Monroe, Hampton, Virginia. It was built in 1823, and is a two-story, six-bay, brick building with a rear ell in the Federal style. It has a three-story full façade front Tuscan order porch on both the first and second level. The building was renovated and the porch was added in 1907. The main section measures 65 feet wide, 37 feet, 9 inches deep, with an 18 by 23 feet rear ell. The original design was for housing eight junior officers, with later alterations to accommodate four families. It is one of two identical four family brick officer's quarters known as the Tuileries. Robert E. Lee moved to Fort Monroe in 1831 with his young bride into two rooms that formed a wing of the west side of Quarters 17. He resided there until November 1834.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2011.

Hampton National Cemetery is a United States National Cemetery in the city of Hampton, Virginia. It encompasses 27.1 acres (11.0 ha), and as of 2014, had over 30,000 interments. There are two separate parts to this facility. The original cemetery is called the "Hampton Section" and is located on Cemetery Road in Hampton, VA. It is on the western side of I-64. The new section which is called the "Phoebus Addition" or the "Phoebus Section" West County Street in Hampton, VA east of I-64. It is less than a mile from the original cemetery. Both sections of the Hampton National Cemetery are closed to new interments.

Old Point Comfort is a point of land located in the independent city of Hampton, Virginia. Previously known as Point Comfort, it lies at the extreme tip of the Virginia Peninsula at the mouth of Hampton Roads in the United States. It was renamed Old Point Comfort to differentiate it from New Point Comfort 21 miles (34 km) up the Chesapeake Bay. A group of enslaved Africans was brought to colonial Virginia at this point in 1619. Today the location is home to Continental Park and Fort Monroe National Monument.
