West Hills, Baltimore

The Samuel Ready Asylum for Female Orphans, later shortened to Samuel Ready School, was a girls' boarding school in Baltimore. It was founded in 1887, based on a plan by Samuel Ready (1789–1871), to serve orphan girls from age 6 to 15. From 1977 it admitted other girls of academic ability from poorer homes. The school closed in 1977.

Westgate is a neighborhood in the Southwest District of Baltimore, located between Baltimore County (west) and the city neighborhood of Ten Hills (east). Its boundaries are marked by Baltimore National Pike (north), Frederick Avenue (south), Rock Glen Avenue and Edmondson Avenue (east) and the city line (west).Before the start of trolley service between Ellicott City and Baltimore along Edmondson Avenue in 1899, this area was mostly undeveloped. A stream feeding the Maiden Choice Run flowed along the course where Rock Glen Road was eventually built. With easy access created by the trolley, construction of houses began in the northern portion of the neighborhood in 1913. Most of the neighborhoods homes, a mix of bungalows, colonials, Cape Cods and Tudor-style houses, were completed in the 1920s and 1930s.The community popularly known as Westgate overlaps the city line, covering a portion of Baltimore County. Homeowners in the Baltimore County neighborhood formerly known as Meridale Farms voted, in the 1930s, to become part of a single community association by the name of Westgate. However, the neighborhood drawn by official city maps ends at the limit of the last annexation of the city in 1918, near the intersection of North Bend Road and Edmondson Avenue.

Ten Hills is a neighborhood in west Baltimore, Maryland.

Franklintown Historic District is a national historic district in Baltimore, Maryland, United States. It is the result of a plan developed in 1832 by William H. Freeman (1790–1863), a local politician and entrepreneur. His plan evolved gradually over the course of several decades and owes its success to his untiring promotion of the village. The central feature is an oval plan with radiating lots around a central wooded park. The district includes an old stone grist mill known as Franklin Mill, the innovative radiating oval plan, and the associated hotel and commercial area. The key residential buildings are excellent examples of the "I"-house form and display steeply pitched cross gables found in vernacular rural buildings throughout much of Maryland.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2001.

The Gundry Sanitarium, also known variously as the Relay Sanitarium, Lewis Gundry Sanitarium, Gundry Hospital, and Conrad Sanitarium, was a medical institution established in 1900 in Southwest Baltimore City, Maryland. The building, originally named "Athol," was constructed in 1880 as a residence for Charles J. Baker and designed by Baltimore architect T. Buckler Ghequier.It was purchased in 1900 by Dr Alfred Gundry as a private sanitarium for the "care of nervous disorders of women that required treatment and rest away from home." It continued in existence as a private sanitarium until 1997. It was purchased by the city in 2006 for historic preservation, but it burned down on September 27, 2021, prior to any improvements.

Mount de Sales Academy is an all-girls secondary school located in Catonsville in unincorporated Baltimore County, Maryland. The school is located near the city of Baltimore and within the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Baltimore. The school is affiliated with the Roman Catholic Church and is partially staffed by the Dominican Sisters of St. Cecilia. Mount de Sales Academy was founded in 1852 by the Visitation Sisters as a boarding school for girls. Now teaching only girls it now serves as a college-preparatory school. It was the first institution in Baltimore County to offer education to women of all religious denominations.

Carrie Murray Nature Center (CMNC) is operated by Baltimore City Recreation and Parks. CMNC offers environmental education programs for children, families, and adults as Baltimore City's only nature center. A native live animal collection, outdoor bird aviary, and indoor exhibits are features of the center, which is nestled in the expansive and historic Gwynns Falls/Leakin Park, the largest urban forested park east of the Mississippi River. The nature center serves an estimated 30,000 visitors annually, including individuals and families as well as groups from schools, faith-based groups, recreation centers, and camps. During the school year, the nature center offers field trips and outreach programs for students of all ages, including the Forest Preschool at Carrie Murray Nature Center, a forest immersion program for preschool-age children. The nature center also offers summer camps, public programs, special events, and volunteer opportunities.

University of Maryland Rehabilitation & Orthopaedic Institute is a rehabilitation hospital located along the border of the Forest Park neighborhood of northwest Baltimore City and Woodlawn in Maryland. It lies on and is incorporated into the historic hospital building and grounds of the former James Lawrence Kernan Hospital. The hospital is now part of the University of Maryland Medical System, on the campus of the University of Maryland at Baltimore.

Rognel Heights is a neighborhood in the Southwest District of Baltimore, sandwiched between Hunting Ridge (west) and Edmondson Village (east) along Edmondson Avenue (south). Gwynns Falls/Leakin Park begins at the neighborhood's northern edge. Its boundaries are marked by Swann Avenue on the western edge, North Woodington Road on the east and Edmondson Avenue on the southern edge. The neighborhood of Uplands is located to the south of Rognel Heights, on the opposite side of Edmondson Avenue.The neighborhood's origin dates back to 1895, when a developer installed a water system and started building houses. Many of its current residences are row houses and brick duplexes built between 1940 and 1969, but the neighborhood also has frame houses pre-dating World War I.

Beechfield is a neighborhood in the Southwest District of Baltimore, located between Yale Heights (east) and the Baltimore County line (west). Its population in 2008 was estimated at 3,789.The community's boundaries form an inverted pyramid shape, with Frederick Avenue (north) drawing a line across the top from Baltimore County (west) to South Beechfield Avenue (east). Frederick Avenue, Maryland Route 144, becomes Frederick Road as it continues west into Baltimore County. Beechfield's eastern boundary begins at the intersection of Beechfield Avenue and Frederick Avenue (north) to the point where the Baltimore County line crosses Beechfield Avenue (south), the apex of the Beechfield pyramid.

Baltimore National Cemetery is a United States National Cemetery located along Maryland Route 144 on both sides of the boundary between the neighborhoods of Beechfield in Baltimore City and Catonsville in Baltimore County. It encompasses 72.2 acres (29.2 ha). As of 2022, the cemetery has nearly 46,000 interments. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2016. A kiosk located on the side of the cemetery's administration building lists the names of veterans and dependents buried in this and two other cemeteries: Annapolis National Cemetery and Loudon Park National Cemetery. The kiosk also provides map locations for each grave.
