St Mark's Academy

Eastfields is an area of South London situated between Mitcham and Streatham. The area is home to St Mark's Academy (formerly known as Eastfields and then Mitcham Vale) secondary school and to Mitcham Eastfields railway station, which opened on 2 June 2008. The area has two council estates, Laburnum and Eastfields Estate, 5 minutes away from each other. The area is covered by the postcodes CR4 and SW16.

Oakleigh Way is a 0.64 hectare Local Nature Reserve and a Site of Borough Importance for Nature Conservation, Grade II, in Mitcham in the London Borough of Merton. It adjoins Oakleigh Way Recreation Ground, and is owned and managed by Merton Council. The site was a railway depot and sidings. It is now birch woodland with areas of scrub and grassland. Flowers include weld, zigzag clover and thyme-leaved sandwort.There is access from Bennett's Close.

Originally a village in the county of Surrey, today it is mainly a residential suburb, and includes Mitcham Common. It has been a settlement throughout recorded history. Amenities include Mitcham Library and Mitcham Cricket Green. Nearby major districts are Croydon, Sutton, Streatham, Brixton and Merton. Mitcham, most broadly defined, had a population of 63,393 in 2011, formed from six wards including Pollards Hill.

South London Crematorium and Streatham Park Cemetery is a cemetery and crematorium on Rowan Road in Streatham Vale. It has always been privately owned and managed and is now part of the Dignity plc group . The South London Crematorium is situated within the cemetery grounds and opened in 1936.

Figges Marsh is a 25-acre public park in the London Borough of Merton. It is in Mitcham, close to Tooting railway station.Originally, the park was next to a toll road into London, which was turnpiked in 1745; now known as London Road.

Mitcham Library is a public library in Mitcham, England, being one of the libraries of the London Borough of Merton. It was built in 1933 on land donated by a local builder, Mr Joseph Owen. In April 1932 he donated £4,025 towards its construction.The original building was 60 feet (18 m) wide and 66 feet (20 m) long, and was built on the London Road in Mitcham, opposite the Holborn Schools. The reference library itself was 36 feet (11 m) by 25 feet (7.6 m), and the lending library 66 by 25 feet (7.6 m). Multi-coloured brick with stone facings was used throughout. Over the main entrance are the words, "Mitcham Public Library", neatly carved in the stonework, with stone cornice. Three steps lead to the approach, and a pillar is placed on either side of the entrance. The doors of the library were of Austrian oak. On the left hand side of the vestibule was the newspaper room, 20 feet (6.1 m) by 17 feet (5.2 m). The initial stock of the library consisted of: lending department, 10,000 volumes costing £2,250; reference department, 1,500 volumes costing £750; junior department, 1,000 volumes costing £200.

St Barnabas' Church, Mitcham, is a church in the Graveney ward of the London borough of Merton, in SW London. It is located on Gorringe Park Avenue in Mitcham. The church is dedicated to Barnabas, one of the disciples. In his day, he carried out missionary journeys & had a great ability to encourage - Barnabas means "son of encouragement". The dedication was chosen, due to the missionary nature of the church set up on this site. The local area in the early 20th Century was a Mission District (specifically, from 1906), where the church aimed to establish & foster a local religious community. This was at the aegis of Christ Church in Colliers Wood, along with old boys from City of London School. The initial missionary building was a basic building, housing a single room; it was known as the "tin church". The current building that we know was designed by H. P. Burke Downing, the foundation stone being laid on 17 May 1913 & the church was completed on 14 November 1914. The church was Grade II listed by English Heritage on 2 September 1988.No images of this early "tin church" are available, but we can ascertain how it might have looked with images of other churches which shared a similar arc of development, starting in newly populated areas in the greatly expanding cities of the late 1800s and early 1900s. Possible examples being the "tin hut" church at Mile Oak or the tabernacles of the Methodist ChurchRecently, the church has been used as a polling station for elections; it was used as a polling office in UK General Election of 12 December 2019, with the polling booths and election officers being located near the main door.

Sunshine Way is the name of a crescent-shaped street in Mitcham, England, built in 1936 for families from overcrowded areas of inner London, and including specially-designed houses to suit the needs of tuberculosis (TB) patients. The houses date from a period of nationwide effort to build better accommodation for poorer people, and a growing awareness of the link between bad housing and health problems. The name Sunshine Way referred to the six special sunshine houses for people with a tendency to TB. Each house had a patio area in the roof where a patient could spend the night in the open air. Fresh air and sunlight were considered an important part of prevention and treatment before effective drugs were developed. The site for Sunshine Way was bought by Church Army Housing Ltd. and the total cost including building the houses and a community hall came to £31,000 (about £1,400,000 in 2005 money, allowing for inflation).The housing estate was officially opened on 20 November 1936 by Lord Horder, KVCO, and was blessed by the Bishop of Kingston. It consisted of 51 houses, 47 of which had three bedrooms and 4 had four bedrooms. Rents ranged from 8 shillings to 12 shillings and threepence a week, or the equivalent of £18 to £30 in 2005. Mr F.M. Elgood, chairman of the company, said that in the 51 houses were 277 children, 167 of them under 10 years old.

Cranmer Green is a 3.2 hectare local nature reserve and Site of Local Importance for Nature Conservation in Mitcham in the London Borough of Merton. It is owned and managed by Merton Council. It is a triangular area bounded by Cranmer Road, King George VI Avenue and a railway line.Cranmer Green, also known as Cranmer Piece, is named after the Cranmer family, who lived locally between 1761 and 1843. The site has a pond, which probably dates to the late eighteenth century, and areas of grassland and woodland.

Eagle House is a Grade One Listed Queen Anne house built in the Dutch style. It is on London Road, Mitcham, in the London Borough of Merton, the grounds forming a triangle bounded by London Road, Bond Road and Western Road. The building dates back to 1705, having been commissioned by the Marrano doctor Fernando Mendes (1647–1724), former physician to Charles II, and in whose family it remained for three generations.Following the death in 1821 of the last private occupant—the widow of City banker John Bond—the property was converted into a private boarding school for young gentlemen (presumably nearby Bond Road reflects the Bond connection). In the early days of the Holborn Union Industrial Schools, built in the northern part of the estate, it served as the school infirmary. In 1933, the building was bought by the Surrey County Council, for the care of 'mentally deficient girls'. Since 2005, the building has been a school for children and young people with autism.

Tooting is a railway station serving Tooting in South London; it is within Travelcard Zone 3. Although Tooting is in the London Borough of Wandsworth, the station is located just across the borough boundary in the neighbouring London Borough of Merton. The station is on the Sutton Loop Line and is served by Thameslink trains and by a limited number of Southern services during the morning and evening peak.
