The Yuelu Academy (also known as the Yuelu Academy of Classical Learning, traditional Chinese: 嶽麓書院; simplified Chinese: 岳麓书院; pinyin: Yuèlǔ Shūyuàn) is on the east side of Yuelu Mountain in Changsha, Hunan province, on the west bank of the Xiang River. As one of the four most prestigious academies over the last 1000 years in China, Yuelu Academy has been a famous institution of higher learning as well as a centre of academic activities and cultures since it was formally set up during the Northern Song Dynasty. The academy was converted into the Hunan Institute of Higher Learning in 1903. It was later renamed Hunan Normal College, Hunan Public Polytechnic School, and finally Hunan University in 1926. Yuelu Academy was once a center of Confucian learning in China.

Yunlu Palace (simplified Chinese: 云麓宫; traditional Chinese: 雲麓宮; pinyin: Yúnlù Gōng) is a Taoist temple located on the south side of Yuelu Mountain, in Yuelu District of Changsha, Hunan, China. It was originally built in 1478, but because of war has been rebuilt numerous times since then, with the last major one done in 1976.

Central South University (CSU; 中南大学) is a public university in Changsha, Hunan, China. The university is affiliated with and funded by the Ministry of Education of China. It is part of Project 211, Project 985, and the Double First-Class Construction. In April 2000, then Hunan Medical University (湖南医科大学), then Changsha Railway College (长沙铁道学院), and then Central South Industrial University (中南工业大学) merged to establish Central South University.

Hunan University station (simplified Chinese: 湖南大学站; traditional Chinese: 湖南大學站; pinyin: Húnan Dàxué Zhàn) is a subway station in Changsha, Hunan, China, operated by the Changsha subway operator Changsha Metro. Its name is derived from the nearby Hunan University campus.

Hunan Normal University station (simplified Chinese: 湖南师范大学站; traditional Chinese: 湖南師範大學站; pinyin: Húnan Shīfàn Dàxué Zhàn), commonly abbreviated as Hunan Shida station (湖南师大站; Húnan Shīdà Zhàn), is a subway station in Changsha, Hunan, China, operated by the Changsha subway operator Changsha Metro.

Autumn-Admiring Pavilion or Aiwan Pavilion (simplified Chinese: 爱晚亭; traditional Chinese: 愛晚亭; pinyin: Àiwǎntíng) is a Chinese pavilion on Mount Yuelu, in Yuelu District, Changsha, Hunan. Alongside the Zuiweng Pavilion, Taoran Pavilion and Huxin Pavilion, it is one of the Four Great Pavilions of Jiangnan.

The High School Attached to Hunan Normal University (湖南师范大学附属中学) is a public secondary school located in Yuelu District, Changsha, Hunan Province, China. The competitive admission is mainly based on the score in city-wide or province-wide standardized tests as well as talent in science, music, sports, and the arts. Founded in 1905 by Yu Zhimo, a leader of the Chinese democratic revolution, the school was initially named ‘Weiyi School’(惟一学堂, literally 'Unique school"). Later, in 1912, it was renamed 'Guang Yi Middle School', which is still valid. Throughout its history, the school's name, as well as its location, has changed several times, mainly due to the Anti-Japanese War and Chinese Civil War. Since September 1984, it has been called 'The High School Attached to Hunan Normal University'. As its name implies, the school is 'attached to', or 'affiliated with' Normal University, which employs the best college graduates. The school is well known for its top-ranking quality in teaching all over the country. It has produced a lot of notable figures in China, such as former Premier Minister of China, Zhu Rongji and several academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering. The school, along with three other prestigious high schools in Changsha (First High School of Changsha, Changjun High School and Yali School), is recognised as one of the "Famous Four".

Xihu Subdistrict (Chinese: 西湖街道; pinyin: Xīhú Jiēdào) is a subdistrict of Yuelu District in Changsha, Hunan, China. It was formed in 1998. The subdistrict has an area of about 10 square kilometres (3.9 sq mi) with a population of about 46,000. The subdistrict has eight communities and two villages under its jurisdiction.

Yuelu Mountain (simplified Chinese: 岳麓山; traditional Chinese: 嶽麓山; pinyin: yuèlù shān) is located on the west bank of the Xiang River, one tributary of Wu River in Yuelu District, Changsha, Hunan. Its main peak and the highest point, Yunlu Peak, is about 300.8-metre (987 ft) above the sea level.

It is affiliated with the Province of Hunan, and co-funded by the Hunan Provincial People's Government and the Ministry of Education. The university is part of Project 211 and the Double First-Class Construction.

The Hunan University of Finance and Economics (Chinese: 湖南财政经济学院; pinyin: Húnán Caízhèng Jīngjì Xuéyuàn) is a provincial public college in Yuelu, Changsha, Hunan, China. Despite its English name, the school has not been granted university status. The college is under the Hunan Provincial Department of Education.

Zibei Pavilion (Chinese: 自卑亭; pinyin: Zìbēi Tíng; lit. 'Pavilion of Being Self-contempt') is a Chinese pavilion located at the foot of Mount Yuelu, in Yuelu District of Changsha, Hunan, China.
