Livingston Public Schools

Temple Emanu-El of West Essex (transliterated from Hebrew meaning "God is with us") is a former Reform Jewish congregation and synagogue that was located at 264 West Northfield Road, in Livingston, in the West Essex section of New Jersey, in the United States. Founded in 1955, the congregation merged with Temple Sinai in Summit in 2018, due to financial reasons. The synagogue building was subsequently sold and has become the Living Stone Christian Church (Chinese: 新澤西立石教會), a Mandarin-speaking Christian church. The former early childhood daycare and Hebrew school buildings have become part of a Mandarin and Spanish language immersion center.

Livingston is a township in Essex County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. As of the 2020 United States census, the township's population was 31,330, its highest decennial count ever and an increase of 1,964 (+6.7%) from 29,366 recorded at the 2010 census, which in turn reflected an increase of 1,975 (+7.2%) from the 27,391 counted in the 2000 census. In 2022, the Population Estimates Program by the United States Census Bureau calculated that the township had a population of 31,000.Livingston was incorporated as a township by an act of the New Jersey Legislature on February 5, 1813, from portions of Caldwell Township (now Fairfield Township) and Springfield Township (now in Union County). Portions of the original township were later taken to form Fairmount (March 11, 1862, now part of West Orange) and Roseland (March 10, 1908).The township was named for William Livingston, the first Governor of New Jersey; his family's coat of arms served as the township's seal for many years.The community has been one of the state's highest-income communities. Based on data from the American Community Survey for 2013–2017, township residents had a median household income of $153,381, ranked 14th in the state among municipalities with more than 10,000 residents, more than double the statewide median of $76,475.

Livingston Mall is a two-level shopping mall located in Livingston, New Jersey, United States. The mall has a gross leasable area of 968,820 sq ft (90,006 m2) and features tenants Macy's and Barnes & Noble along with retailers such as Finish Line, Foot Locker, Hollister, H&M, Old Navy, and Victoria's Secret.Located near the Passaic River close to neighboring Morris County, the Livingston mall serves customers from Essex, Morris and Union counties.

Slough Brook is a tributary of the Passaic River in Essex County, New Jersey in the United States. Slough Brook flows through a residential area of central Livingston, mostly filled in or culvertised, with streets now covering what was once the course of the stream. Also, most of the water from this stream was drained to fill a small pond at the Livingston Memorial Park. The stream at its deepest point is no more than 6 inches (15 cm) deep.

Gibbs College – Livingston was a private two-year college in Livingston, New Jersey. It was part of the Gibbs College group of private schools founded by Katherine Gibbs. At one time the Livingston campus had an annual enrollment of approximately 1,000 students. The school was accredited by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools (ACICS) to award associate degrees and Certificates and by the New Jersey Commission on Higher Education.This branch of Gibbs College was originally located in Montclair, New Jersey, where it opened in 1950. By 2000 the Montclair location was deemed too small. For its new campus, the college redeveloped a former Allison Corporation manufacturing plant on New Jersey Route 10. The project required five years of planning and nineteen months to obtain required permits, sparking a public discussion about undesirable regulatory obstacles to adaptive reuse of existing buildings. The resulting project had a 130,000-square-foot (12,000 m2) building on a 16-acre (65,000 m2) campus with lecture rooms, computer labs, a large library, cafeteria, student reception center, and offices. Within a few years, however, the campus was closed as part of a larger contraction of Gibbs College campuses.

Livingston High School is a four-year comprehensive public high school that serves students in ninth through twelfth grades from Livingston, in Essex County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey, operating as part of the Livingston Public Schools. It receives all eighth grade graduates from Heritage Middle School. It is the only high school in the Livingston Township. The school has been accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Elementary and Secondary Schools since 1958.Livingston High School offers 28 Advanced Placement (AP) courses within eight department areas. The school's principal is Danielle Rosenzweig; her administration team includes three assistant principals.As of the 2021–22 school year, the school had an enrollment of 1,971 students and 181.2 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 10.9:1. There were 24 students (1.2% of enrollment) eligible for free lunch and 11 (0.6% of students) eligible for reduced-cost lunch.

Aquinas Academy (AQA) is a private coeducational Roman Catholic school located in Livingston, New Jersey that serves students from preschool through eighth grade. The school was founded in 1952 by Monsignor William McCann and the educational guidance of the Sisters of St. Dominic of Caldwell, New Jersey. The school is located on the campus of St. Philomena Parish (a Roman Catholic church) and operates under the supervision of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Newark. The school is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools.The Academy is situated on the 30-acre (120,000 m2) campus of Saint Philomena Parish. The original building, known today as McCann Hall, was formerly the Orange Rest Home. Throughout the years, additional buildings including a gymnasium, were added to the campus. As of the 2009-10 school year, the school had an enrollment of 156 students (in K-8, plus 85 in PreKindergarten) and 13.5 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 11.6:1.

Newark Academy is a coeducational private day school located in Livingston, Essex County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey, serving students in sixth through twelfth grades. The school has been accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Elementary and Secondary Schools since 1928.Newark Academy is one of several pre-Revolutionary War schools still operating in the United States and is considered the seventh-oldest private school in the country and the second-oldest day school in the state of New Jersey (behind Rutgers Preparatory School). The Academy was founded in 1774 by Alexander MacWhorter, a prominent cleric and advisor to George Washington, and was located on Market Street in Downtown Newark. Newark Academy was briefly closed after it was burned by the British during the Revolutionary War. The school then reopened in new quarters in 1792. In 1802, the Academy opened a separate division for girls, but this program was closed in 1859. After 1929, it moved to First Street in the Roseville section of Newark. The Academy moved from Newark to its current location, a 68-acre (280,000 m2) campus in Livingston, in 1964, and became fully co-educational in 1971.For the 2022–23 school year, the school has an enrollment of 674 students and 78 classroom teachers for a student–teacher ratio of 7:1. Ward–Force House and Condit Family Cook House is located in Livingston, Essex County, New Jersey, United States. The house was built in 1745 and was added to the National Register of Historic Places on December 29, 1981.

Rae Kushner Yeshiva High School / Yeshivat HaTichonit Beit Yosef is a four-year private Modern Orthodox yeshiva high school located in Livingston, New Jersey, United States. The school serves students living in areas ranging from Livingston, West Orange, East Brunswick, Highland Park/Edison, Staten Island, Elizabeth and Union County. The affiliated Joseph Kushner Hebrew Academy serves students through eighth grade. As of the 2013–14 school year, the school had an enrollment of 236 students.

The Joseph Kushner Hebrew Academy is a coeducational Modern Orthodox Yeshiva Day School located in Livingston, New Jersey. The Academy is dedicated towards developmental education and religious growth, for both boys and girls from Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 8. The affiliated Rae Kushner Yeshiva High School serves students in grades nine through 12.

Canoe Brook is a tributary of the Passaic River in the U.S. state of New Jersey. It runs behind several municipal buildings in Livingston such as the police station and town hall. Its average depth is about 6 inches (15.2 cm) deep, but its water level can rise to well more than a foot (30.5 cm) during heavy rains. In the early 1980s a flood claimed the lives of three kids rafting in a flood. The flood waters went nearly to the bridge on Northfield, completely over the bridge at East Hobart Gap and finally went across East Hobart Gap Road by Burnett Street, where it flooded a home. The home was torn down shortly thereafter. In the mid 1980s the brook was reconstructed of concrete and stone from the Swan Street area to East Hobart Gap Road. During Hurricane Floyd in 1999, the river overflowed its banks, well over three meters in some places, as the volume of water was too great to pass through the culverts under the residential bridges, flowed over them and through nearby homes as well. The brook is also a historic waterway as a sawmill alongside the brook near what is now Northfield Avenue. It was used as an early power source by the town's early settlers in the 19th century. Also, one of the oldest buildings in Livingston, the Force Hill homestead, lies only a short distance upstream.
