Gwynns Falls Trail

Gwynns Falls is a 24.9-mile-long (40.1 km) stream located in Baltimore County and Baltimore City, Maryland. Its headwaters are located in Reisterstown in Baltimore County, and the stream flows southeast, entering the city of Baltimore and emptying into the Middle Branch of the Patapsco River. The Patapsco drains into the Chesapeake Bay. The watershed area of Gwynns Falls covers 66 square miles (170 km2), with 133 miles (214 km) of streams.The stream was named for Richard Gwinn, who opened a trading post along it in 1669. Gwynns Falls does not actually have a waterfall, but its rough, rocky nature caused John Smith to comment on how the stream tumbled over "felles". This confusing local practice of using "falls" in the name of rocky streams was also applied to Baltimore's Jones Falls and Gunpowder Falls, which do not have waterfalls.During periods of high water conditions the stream can be whitewater kayaked, with the most challenging section running from the dam in Dickeyville to the Washington Boulevard bridge crossing. This section is entirely within the city limits of Baltimore and runs under the historic Carrollton Viaduct. An unusual feature of the run is a point near U.S. Route 40 where a city water pipe main crosses about a foot above the water level; kayaking normally requires a portage around the pipe crossing.

Mount Olivet Cemetery in western Baltimore, Maryland is a historic burial ground dating back into the middle 1800s, known as "The Resting Place of Methodist Bishops."Methodist Episcopal Church Bishops Francis Asbury, John Emory, Enoch George, and Beverly Waugh are all buried here, as well as Methodist leaders Jesse Lee, Robert Strawbridge, and missionaries E. Stanley Jones and Mabel Lossing Jones.The cemetery has fallen victim to significant vandalism, with many grave monuments pushed over face-down from their bases, broken, or completely missing.

Southwestern Senior High School was a public high school located in Baltimore, Maryland. The school opened in September 1971 and closed in June 2007. The building was vacant for a year before the city leased it to the SEED School of Maryland boarding school. The main classroom building was torn down along with the library and cafeteria. The building has been replaced with dorms and portable classrooms. Notable student: Ken “The Animal” Bannister” Ken played in the NBA for five seasons (from 1985 through 1991), two with the New York Knicks and three with the L.A. Clippers. Bard High School Early College (BHSEC) Baltimore is a public contract high school located in the Hanlon Longwood neighborhood of Baltimore, Maryland, United States. Opened in 2015, BHSEC Baltimore became the seventh branch of the larger Bard High School Early College program, a group of high schools established in partnership with the private liberal arts college Bard College.Students at BHSEC are able to earn a tuition-free associate's degree in their final two years of school, in addition to their high school diploma. The school also maintains an agreement with Maryland's public colleges and universities to accept credits earned towards a bachelor's degree. It also has made credit transfer agreements with a few private schools, including Goucher College. Students can earn up to 60 credits under the partnership with Bard College. The school's admissions process differs from the majority of high schools in Baltimore City Public Schools as student applications are not judged on the basis of middle school grades, attendance and assessments, but only on the basis of an interview and student essay.The school is one of several smaller programs now located within the campus of the former William H. Lemmel Middle School, a traditional public school that was closed in 2010. Bard now shares the building with two other charters: the Angela Y. Davis Leadership Academy and the ConneXions School for the Arts.

Gwynn's Falls is a neighborhood in the Southwestern District of Baltimore, located between Irvington (west) and Gwynns Falls Leakin Park (east). Frederick Avenue (Maryland Route 144) marks the neighborhood's boundary to the north; Wilkens Avenue (Maryland Route 372) draws its southern edge. Caton Avenue separates it from Irvington to the west.Before 1977, the neighborhood was known as Carroll Station, for a station of the Pennsylvania Railroad formerly located here. Also known as the Frederick Road station, Carroll Station took its name from Charles Carroll of Carrollton, whose family previously owned the property now occupied by the Gwynn's Fall neighborhood.

The Carrollton Viaduct, located over the Gwynns Falls stream near Carroll Park in southwest Baltimore, Maryland, is the first stone masonry bridge for railroad use in the United States, built for the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad, founded 1827, and one of the world's oldest railroad bridges still in use for rail traffic. Construction began in 1828 and was completed in 1829. The bridge is named in honor of Charles Carroll of Carrollton (1737–1832), of Maryland, known for being the last surviving signer of the Declaration of Independence, the only Roman Catholic in the Second Continental Congress (1775–1781), and wealthiest man in the Thirteen Colonies of the time of the American Revolutionary War (1775–1783). In 1982 the viaduct was designated a National Historic Civil Engineering Landmark by the American Society of Civil Engineers.

Carroll Park is a nearly 117-acre (47 ha) public park located in the historic Washington Village-Pigtown neighborhood in southwestern Baltimore, Maryland. The park is bordered by Washington Boulevard to the south, Monroe Street to the west, Bayard Street to the east, and the Mount Clare Branch of the Baltimore Terminal Subdivision railroad to the north. The park also extends westward beyond the Montgomery Ward Warehouse and Retail Store to include the Carroll Park Golf Course.

The Cardinal Gibbons School, also referred to as Cardinal Gibbons, CG, and most commonly as Gibbons, was a Roman Catholic high school and middle school for boys in Baltimore, Maryland, USA. A private institution for grades 6–12, Gibbons drew its enrollment from the neighborhoods of southwest Baltimore City and the counties surrounding the Baltimore metropolitan area, with some as far away as Harford County, Carroll County, and Frederick County. Named in honor of James Cardinal Gibbons, said to be Baltimore's most distinguished Catholic churchman, the school was established in 1962 by the Archdiocese of Baltimore. Gibbons occupied the former site of the St. Mary's Industrial School, a reform school for boys and the Alma Mater of baseball great George Herman "Babe" Ruth. Following extensive renovations of the old St. Mary's campus in the early 1960s, the Cardinal Gibbons School opened. The school grew to its peak enrollment of just over 1,000 students in the mid-1970s. In 1988, the school expanded its academic programs with the addition of a middle school. The middle school program ceased operation following the 2009 academic school year. The school closed after the end of the 2009–2010 school year due to declining enrollment and financial problems in the Archdiocese, Organizations were established to make attempts to reopen the school, but the school did not reopen. The grounds are not used for academics, although local schools and sport programs have made use of the athletic facilities. In 2012, neighboring St. Agnes Hospital purchased the old Gibbons property with plans to incorporate the old campus into its growing medical facilities, named the Gibbons Commons. Gibbons was a college preparatory middle and high school, with core curriculum courses in literature, religious studies, mathematics, laboratory science, social sciences and history, fine arts, physical education, technology, and foreign language. Gibbons offered a variety of Advanced Placement courses, including joint courses with neighboring all-girls high school Seton Keough to the south. Gibbons also offered dual enrollment courses in conjunction with the Community College of Baltimore County. All students at Gibbons were held to academic integrity through the use of an honor code. There was a long-standing rivalry between Cardinal Gibbons and nearby high school Mount Saint Joseph in the Irvington neighborhood of southwest Baltimore. Due to their close proximity and frequent meetings in playoffs and tournaments in basketball, the rivalry intensified as the Gibbons' basketball program established itself as a championship program in the 1970s. The rivalry grew to include other sports and academics as well.

Seton Keough High School was an all-girls college preparatory private, Roman Catholic high school in Baltimore, Maryland. It is located in the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Baltimore, at 1201 Caton Avenue. It was founded in 1988 after the joining of the two schools, Archbishop Keough High School and Seton High School. Seton Keough was a community of faith, integrity, and compassion that sent forth women of honor. The school closed in June 2017.

Carrollton Ridge is a neighborhood of South Baltimore, Maryland, United States The area currently known as Carrollton Ridge is a low income residential neighborhood directly west of Baltimore's Inner Harbor. Its boundaries are roughly defined by Frederick Avenue to the north, Carroll Park to the south, Bentalou Street to the west and Fulton Avenue to the east. The neighborhood is racially diverse, though predominantly African American. The homes in Carrollton Ridge are mostly rowhouses. Carrollton Ridge derived its name from two things. First, Dr. Charles Carroll, and his estate (a 117-acre (0.47 km2) remnant of which currently exists as Carroll Park). Second, the geographic ridge which runs alongside the western edge of the neighborhood. Carrollton Ridge is home to Ohio Ave., which at approximately 25 feet long has exactly one residential address, making it the world's shortest residential street according to the Guinness Book of World Records.

Loudon Park National Cemetery is a United States National Cemetery located in the city of Baltimore, Maryland. Administered by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs, it encompasses 5.2 acres (2.1 ha), and as of the end of 2005, had 7,138 interments. It is currently closed to new interments, and is maintained by the Baltimore National Cemetery. The cemetery's Civil War interments include about 2,300 Union soldiers and 650 Confederate soldiers.
