Englewood Cliffs Public Schools

The Van Gelder Studio is a recording studio at 445 Sylvan Avenue, Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey, United States. Following the use of his parents' home at 25 Prospect Avenue, Hackensack, New Jersey, for the original studio, Rudy Van Gelder (1924–2016) moved to the new location for his recording studio in July 1959. It has been used to record many albums released by jazz labels such as Blue Note, Prestige, Impulse!, Verve and CTI. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on April 25, 2022, for its significance in performing arts and engineering.

The Flat Rock Brook Nature Center is a 150-acre (0.61 km2) preserve and education center situated on the western slope of the Palisades in Englewood, New Jersey, United States of America. The Center was established in 1973 by citizens who were committed to land conservation and environmental education. This nature center has 3.6 miles of trails. This natural woodland is one of the last remnants of the Palisades Forest. The Flat Rock Brook Nature Center is managed by the Flat Rock Brook Nature Association. Its purpose is to maintain and preserve the lands under its supervision as a natural sanctuary for plant and animal life in our urban area and as a natural environment available to the public for trail walks, nature study and other passive recreation. It provides environmental education programs for all ages in order to generate understanding and appreciation of nature and to instill a sense of responsibility and knowledge of the means to protect the natural world and its resources for future generations. A network of self-guiding trails leads to streams, wetlands, ponds, wildflower meadows, quarry cliffs, woodland, and even a park. Flat Rock Brook trails and picnic area are open free to the public every day from dawn to dusk.

The Moriah School is a Modern Orthodox Jewish day school located in Englewood, New Jersey. It educates nearly 800 students from nursery through eighth grade. As of the 2013-14 school year, the school had an enrollment of 692 students in grades K-8 (plus an additional 94 students in Pre-K for a total enrollment of 786) and 102 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 6.7.

The Antiochian Orthodox Christian Archdiocese of North America (AOCANA), often referred to in North America as simply the Antiochian Archdiocese, is the jurisdiction of the Greek Orthodox Church of Antioch in the United States and Canada. Originally under the care of the Russian Orthodox Church, the Syro-Levantine Eastern Orthodox Christian immigrants to the United States and Canada were granted their own jurisdiction under the Church of Antioch in the wake of the Bolshevik Revolution. Internal conflicts divided the Antiochian Orthodox faithful into two parallel archdioceses — those of New York and Toledo — until 1975, when Metropolitan Philip (Saliba) became the sole Archbishop of the reunited Antiochian Archdiocese. By 2014, the archdiocese had grown to over 275 parish churches.It is one of two Orthodox Christian jurisdictions in North America to currently practice the liturgical Western Rite as well as the Byzantine Rite, along with the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia.

Helicon Home Colony was an experimental community formed by author Upton Sinclair in Englewood, New Jersey, United States, with proceeds from his novel The Jungle. Established in October 1906, it burned down in March 1907 and was disbanded. Sinclair's initial plan for the colony included farms, a communal kitchen, nurseries for children and other services to make it entirely self-sufficient, and would contain about 100 houses on a 400-acre lot. Opinions of the colony were supportive, with the New York Times noting the difficulties of raising a family alone in the city. However, editors also raised concerns over the funds required to purchase as much land as was initially planned, as well as the challenge of operating on an entirely communal basis. The colony eventually opened in a New Jersey school building in October 1906, and about 46 adults and 15 children lived in the community.

The Dwight-Englewood School (D-E) is an independent coeducational college-preparatory day school, located in Englewood in Bergen County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. The school teaches students from pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade in three functionally separate schools. The Lower School, formerly known as the Bede School, serves students in pre-kindergarten through 5th grade in Drapkin Hall. The Middle School, in Umpleby Hall, serves students in 6th through 8th grade. The Upper School serves grades 9 through 12, and it houses its administration in the Leggett building and the Campus Center. Other buildings are the Hajjar STEM Center, Swartley Arts Center, the Imperatore Library and the Modell Sports Complex. As of the 2019–20 school year, the school had an enrollment of 1,040 students (plus 28 in PreK) and 125.9 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 8.3:1. The 1909 U.S. Open was the fifteenth U.S. Open, held June 24–25 at Englewood Golf Club in Englewood, New Jersey, north of downtown New York City (Manhattan). George Sargent established a new U.S. Open scoring record to win his only major title, four strokes ahead of runner-up Tom McNamara.In the opening round on Thursday morning, David Hunter made U.S. Open history as the first player to break 70, but he had some problems in the second round when he hit his ball into a brook and subsequently used four niblick shots in getting out. After reaching the turn in 47 he made a nice recovery on the back nine and came home in 37 for 84 (he had another 84 in the third round and finished thirtieth). McNamara also had a sub-70 score with 69 in the second round and led by four strokes midway at 142.McNamara carried a two-stroke lead over Sargent into the final round on Friday afternoon. Sargent birdied the final hole for 71 and his third consecutive round of 72 or better. McNamara struggled over the final 18 holes with 77 and finished four back of Sargent. Sargent's winning total of 290 broke the U.S. Open scoring record by five shots. Bob Peebles was well positioned after three rounds on 222 but struggled and fell back into the pack with a final round 78. John McDermott made his U.S. Open debut at age 17 and was 49th. He placed in the top-ten in each of the next five, with consecutive wins in 1911 and 1912, the first American-born champion. Four-time champion Willie Anderson tied for fourth in his penultimate U.S. Open. Horace Rawlins, the inaugural champion fourteen years earlier in 1895, made his last cut in the championship and finished sixtieth.

Englewood Golf Club was a private golf course in the eastern United States, located in Englewood and Leonia, New Jersey, just west of New York City. Opened 127 years ago as a nine-hole course in 1896, a second nine was added four years later; it hosted the U.S. Amateur in 1906 and the U.S. Open in 1909.The golf course met its demise in the 1960s when the approach ramp to the George Washington Bridge cut right through the middle of the property. This portion of the New Jersey Turnpike was built on the border between Englewood and Leonia, and bisected the golf course; the clubhouse was in the northeast corner of the property. Play continued on the divided course, but the financial burden became too great, and the course closed in 1976. Cross Creek Point condominiums were built on the northeast half in Englewood, and single-family houses were built on the southwest half in Leonia, with a street named Golf Course Drive. Fort Lee High School is a four-year comprehensive public high school that serves students in ninth through twelfth grade, located in Fort Lee, in Bergen County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey, operating as the lone secondary school of the Fort Lee School District. The school has been accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Elementary and Secondary Schools since 1931.As of the 2021–22 school year, the school had an enrollment of 1,153 students and 81.6 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 14.1:1. There were 77 students (6.7% of enrollment) eligible for free lunch and 14 (1.2% of students) eligible for reduced-cost lunch.

Hackensack Township was a township that was formed in 1693 within Bergen County, New Jersey. The township was created by the New Jersey Legislature as one of the first group of townships in New Jersey. Bergen County, which had been created in 1682, was thus split into two parts: Hackensack Township to the north, and Bergen Township to the south. Despite its name, Hackensack Township did not encompass the present-day city of Hackensack, which was within New Barbadoes Township on the west side of the Hackensack River.As originally constituted on October 31, 1693, the township included portions of present-day Bergen County between the Hudson River on the east and the Hackensack River to the west, northward to the boundary with New York and south to the border with current Hudson County.In 1775, Harrington Township was formed by royal charter from the northern portions of both New Barbadoes Township and Hackensack Township.On March 22, 1871, Hackensack Township was subdivided into three new townships, each stretching from the Hudson River on the east to the Hackensack River in the west. The northern portion became Palisades Township, the center strip became Englewood Township, and the southern portion became Ridgefield Township. With the creation of these three new townships, Hackensack Township was dissolved that same day, March 22, 1871.

The Riviera was a nightclub in Fort Lee, New Jersey, just outside of New York City, from 1931 to 1953. For most of its history it was located overlooking the Hudson River adjacent to the George Washington Bridge.
