Finglas

Finglas is a civil parish mainly situated in the barony of Castleknock in the traditional county of Dublin, Ireland. It contains 34 townlands. Today, the parish is split between two local government areas: the modern county of Fingal (to the west) and Dublin City Council (to the east).

St. Canice's Church, is a Church of Ireland church on the northern side of church street, in Finglas, Dublin. The building was built in 1843, and dedicated by Richard Whately, Archbishop of Dublin, to replace an earlier church at the site of St. Canices' early monastery. Following the building of the new church the old church was still used as a vestry for some years. The glebe-house was erected in 1826, supported by a gift and loan from the Board of First Fruits.' Finglas was constituted its fifth prebend of St. Patrick's Cathedral, Dublin when Henry de Londres changed the status of that church in 1191, and Pope Alexander III confirming the Archbishops possession of Finglas, with the Chancellor holding the prebend form 1218 to 2007, in 2007 it was made into an ecumenical canon of the cathedral. The Medieval Church in Finglas would have controlled a number of Chapels such as Donaghmore / Dovemachenor (St. Margarets), de Villa de Reimundi Labos (St. Brigids, Ward) and De Tirceyn (Artane, dedicated to St. Nicholas). Finglas Parochial National School, on land beside the church and is under the patronage of the Church of Ireland.In 1995 it merged with Santry and Glasnevin and to form the Santry (St. Pappan's), Glasnevin (St. Mobhi's) and Finglas Grouping of Parishes.St Patrick's Well, is situated to the north of the church.St. Canice's Church graveyard where the old church ruins are, was entrusted to Dublin Corporation in the 1950s. Among the graves is the tomb of Baron John Pocklington the English MP, lawyer and judge.

Erin's Isle (Irish: Oileán na hÉireann ) is a Gaelic Athletic Association club in Finglas, Dublin, Ireland. Erin's Isle have won the Dublin Senior Football Championship on two occasions in 1993 and 1997, also capturing the Leinster Club Football Championship in 1997. The club won the Dublin Juvenile Football Championship for the first time in 1983 and the Dublin Minor Football Championship for the first time in 1985. Erins Isle won the Dublin Senior Hurling Championship once, in 1983.

The National University of Ireland (NUI) (Irish: Ollscoil na hÉireann) is a federal university system of constituent universities (previously called constituent colleges) and recognised colleges set up under the Irish Universities Act, 1908, and significantly amended by the Universities Act, 1997.The constituent universities are for all essential purposes independent universities, except that the degrees and diplomas are those of the National University of Ireland with its seat in Dublin. In post-nominals, the abbreviation NUI is used for degrees from all the constituent universities of the National University of Ireland.

The Coláiste Íde College of Further Education is a coeducational, non-denominational centre of education funded and managed by the City of Dublin Education and Training Board to provide a Further Education service to the community of Finglas in Dublin North-West.

Tolka Valley Park (Irish: Páirc Ghleann na Tulchann) is a public park on the River Tolka, spanning the suburbs of Ashtown, Finglas and Glasnevin, in Dublin, Ireland.Covering approximately 50 hectares (120 acres), sections of the park are laid-out over a former city landfill, while the eastern part of the park is located on the estate lands of the former Finglaswood House. Some of park's wooded areas were planted in 2011, while the wetland sections of the park were developed in 1999. These "integrated constructed wetlands" were built at the confluence between the Finglaswood Stream and River Tolka, and designed to improve water quality and reduce pollution in the watercourse. Sections of the River Tolka, within the park, have been stocked with salmon and trout.There are sports pitches, a par-3 municipal golf course, and a pitch and putt course on the site. As of 2018, it was reported that some of the park's sports pitches had been damaged by "scrambler bikes", with issues of anti-social behaviour sometimes reported in the area.The eastern section of Tolka Valley Park, within the Dublin City Council authority area, spans westward from the Finglas Road in Glasnevin via Finglas to Ashtown. A further section, sometimes referred to as "Tolka Valley Linear Park" or "Tolka Valley Regional Park", extends into the Fingal County Council authority area, westwards from Blanchardstown to Mulhuddart.

Charlestown Shopping Centre is a shopping centre located on St. Margaret's Road, Dublin, Ireland, north of Finglas village. It opened in October 2007.

Broom Bridge (Irish: Droichead Broome), also called Broome Bridge, and sometimes Brougham Bridge, is a bridge along Broombridge Road which crosses the Royal Canal in Cabra, Dublin, Ireland. Broome Bridge is named after William Broome, one of the directors of the Royal Canal company who lived nearby. It is famous for being the location where Sir William Rowan Hamilton first wrote down the fundamental formula for quaternions on 16 October 1843, which is to this day commemorated by a stone plaque on the northwest corner of the underside of the bridge. After being spoiled by the action of vandals and some visitors, the plaque was moved to a different place, higher, under the railing of the bridge. The text on the plaque reads: Here as he walked by on the 16th of October 1843 Sir William Rowan Hamilton in a flash of genius discovered the fundamental formula for quaternion multiplication i² = j² = k² = ijk = −1 & cut it on a stone of this bridge. Given the historical importance of the bridge with respect to mathematics, mathematicians from all over the world have been known to take part in the annual commemorative walk from Dunsink Observatory to the site. Attendees have included Nobel Prize winners Murray Gell-Mann, Steven Weinberg and Frank Wilczek, and mathematicians Sir Andrew Wiles, Sir Roger Penrose and Ingrid Daubechies. The 16 October is sometimes referred to as Broomsday (in reference to Broome Bridge) and as a nod to the literary commemorations on 16 June (Bloomsday in honour of James Joyce).

Broombridge is a railway station beside a Luas Tram stop serving Cabra, Dublin 7, Ireland. It lies on the southern bank of the Royal Canal at the western end of what had been Liffey Junction station on the erstwhile Midland Great Western Railway (MGWR). It takes its name from Broome Bridge, which crosses the canal, where William Rowan Hamilton developed the mathematical notion of quaternions. A plaque on the adjacent canal bridge and the name of the Luas Maintenance depot on site, Hamilton Depot, commemorates this.

Poppintree (Irish: Crann Phapáin), is a neighbourhood of the large outer suburb of Ballymun, Dublin, Ireland. It is bordered by Glasnevin and Finglas. The area includes Poppintree Park. the Poppintree Sports and Community Complex

Liffey Junction is a former railway station and junction on the erstwhile Midland Great Western Railway (MGWR) in Dublin, Ireland.

Pelletstown railway station is a railway station on the Western Commuter line in the Cabra area of Dublin, Ireland, beside the Royal Canal. The station was opened on 26 September 2021 by Minister for Transport Eamon Ryan and Tánaiste Leo Varadkar, becoming the first new station to open on the Iarnród Éireann network since Oranmore railway station opened in 2013.Planning permission was originally granted in 2014, with modified permission approved in 2018. In 2018, Iarnród Éireann stated that construction would begin in 2019, but the groundbreaking did not take place until February 2020. As of early 2020, the project was projected to cost €10-€10.5 million.The station is adjacent to the 8th Lock residential quarter development, owned by German investor Union Investment.The station takes its name from the townland of Pelletstown. This name traces back to the Middle Ages: Piletiston is recorded on the Close Roll of King Edward III c. 1375, the name meaning the tūn (settlement) of Ralph Pedelowe.
