Knock (Irish: An Cnoc, meaning The Hill – but now more generally known in Irish as Cnoc Mhuire, "Hill of (the Virgin) Mary") is a village in County Mayo, Ireland. Knock is also a civil parish in the ancient barony of Costello. It is notable as the location of Knock Shrine - a Marian shrine and place of pilgrimage. According to Catholic beliefs, Mary, mother of Jesus, Saint Joseph and Saint John the Evangelist appeared to witnesses in the village on 21 August 1879. There is international skepticism of this event due to the age of the witnesses and the lack of evidence supporting the event. In the 20th century, Knock became one of Europe's most visited shrines to the Virgin Mary, along with Lourdes and Fatima. It was a focus of peace pilgrimages in Ireland during the Second World War, when the faithful prayed for peace. One and a half million pilgrims visit the shrine annually. In 1979, on the centenary of the apparition, Pope John Paul II visited the shrine. On 26 August 2018, Pope Francis visited the basilica while in Ireland for the 9th World Meeting of Families.

The Basilica of Our Lady, Queen of Ireland is a Roman Catholic Church of the Latin Rite located in the small town of Knock, in County Mayo in Ireland. It was designed in modern architecture style with concrete materials by architect Daithi Hanly, and completed in 1976. Its construction was overseen by Monsignor James Horan, who was the parish priest of Knock from 1967 until his death in 1986.The basilica, which can accommodate approximately 10,000 people, serves the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Tuam, and it is part of the Knock Shrine grounds that incorporates four other churches, including the Apparition Church, the place where, according to Catholic beliefs, on Thursday evening of 21 August 1879, the Blessed Virgin Mary, Saint Joseph, and Saint John the Evangelist are proposed to have appeared, the old parish church, the Blessed Sacrament Chapel, and the Chapel of Reconciliation. In this Ireland's National Marian shrine there are also a religious books' centre, a caravan and camping park, the Knock House Hotel, and the Knock Museum.

Bekan or Becan (Irish: Béacán) is a village in County Mayo, Ireland. Because of the almost entirely rural population, it is traditionally a farming community. The village is off the R323 road between Knock and Ballyhaunis. The local school is St. Joseph's National School. The Connacht Gaelic Athletic Association Centre of Excellence was built outside the village in December 2012.

Eastern Gaels GAA (Irish: CLG Gaeil an Oirthir) is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in Brickens, County Mayo. The club was founded in 1984 in the parish of Bekan drawing its members from Bekan, Brickeens to the south of the parish and Logboy to the south-east. The club is a member of the East Division of Mayo GAA and currently competes in the Mayo Junior A Championship. At underage level, Gaels won a Mayo Minor B title in 1993. The club colours are royal blue with a gold band.

Brickens (Irish: Na Broicíní, meaning 'the badger warrens'), officially Brickeens, is a village and townland on the N60 road between Ballyhaunis and Claremorris in southeast County Mayo in Ireland. The River Robe flows through the village which is 65 metres above sea level, and old ordnance survey maps show the townland with an area of 368 acres and 23 perches – equivalent to nearly 150 hectares.It is in the civil parish and Catholic parish of Bekan and in the former barony of Costello. The area surrounding the village is devoted to agriculture. Brickens is a 30-kilometre drive from Ireland West Airport Knock.

St Colman's College is an all-boys Catholic secondary school in Claremorris, County Mayo

Mount St. Michael Secondary School is an all-girls voluntary secondary school, under the trusteeship of the Catholic Education an Irish Schools Trust (CEIST), on the outskirts of Claremorris in County Mayo, Ireland. Located on what was the estate of Denis Browne (local landlord), it was founded in 1906 and began as a 'Secondary Top' in 1924. It developed into a full secondary school in 1940.Until 2000, the school accommodated both residential and day pupils. Boarders were first admitted in 1906 and the annual intake numbered 15 between 1906 and 1940. This number increased to 90 until 1996 when the phasing out of the boarding school was begun. The 1999-2000 academic year was the final year in which the school accommodated boarding (residential) students. As of 2018, school had an enrollment of approximately 450 students.In 1987, a board of management was set up, comprising representatives of trustees, teachers and parents. In 1990 a lay principal was appointed.Mount St. Michael operates a 6-year program covering the Junior Cycle and Senior (Leaving Certificate) Cycle.

The Church of Saint Colman (in Irish: Eaglais Naomh Cólman) is a Roman Catholic parish church in Claremorris in County Mayo, Ireland. Located in the parish of Claremorris, it is dedicated to Our Lady of Good Counsel.The church was designed in an Early English Gothic style by R. M. Butler, and was built between 1904 and 1911. A number of the stained glass windows in the church are associated with the studios of Harry Clarke in Dublin. In the gallery, there is Gothic-style timber panelled pipe organ. The church is included on the Record of Monuments and Places maintained by Mayo County Council.Another church within the same parish, the Church of Our Lady, is located at Barnacarroll.

The Holywell ambush was an ambush on the Ballyhaunis to Claremorris road near Holywell in the early hours of Monday, 2 August 1920 carried out by the Irish Republican Army (IRA) during the Irish War of Independence. Approximately 20 local IRA volunteers commanded by Patrick Kenny attacked a British Military outpost that was guarding a broken down lorry.

Aghamore also known as Aughamore (Irish: Achadh Mór, meaning 'big field'), is a village and parish in eastern County Mayo, Ireland.

Claremorris (; Irish: Clár Chlainne Mhuiris) is a town in County Mayo in the west of Ireland, at the junction of the N17 and the N60 national routes. It is the fastest growing town in the county. There was a 31% increase in the town's population between 2006 and 2011 and a 23% increase between 2002 and 2006. The population of Claremorris in the 2016 census was 3,687, rising from 3,412 in the 2011 census.The town sits at the bottom of a valley, all roads leading to the town follow hills, in particular the old Knock road (known as the Knock hill) and Courthouse road. Although low-lying, the town does not experience flooding. There is no major river through the town although there are two lakes in the town centre: Clare Lough where the 'Land of the Giants' amenity is located and Mayfield Lough. A small river flows between the two.
