Hebburn Town F.C.

Hebburn is a Tyne and Wear Metro station, serving the town of Hebburn, South Tyneside in Tyne and Wear, England. It joined the network on 24 March 1984, following the opening of the fifth phase of the network, between Heworth and South Shields.

Hebburn Hall also known as Ellison Hall is a 17th-century country mansion, which has been converted into residential apartments and houses, situated at Hebburn, South Tyneside, Tyne and Wear (grid reference NZ31106417). It is a Grade II listed building. Long before the Manor of Hebburn was subsumed by the conurbation of Newcastle upon Tyne, the estate was acquired by the Ellisons, a family of merchant adventurers of Newcastle. Robert Ellison, Sheriff and Member of Parliament for Newcastle, replaced the 14th-century Tower house with a new manor house in the mid 17th century. His descendant Henry Ellison ( who was High Sheriff of Northumberland in 1734) rebuilt the property in a somewhat grander style in 1790, creating, it is said with the assistance of architect William Newton, a three-storey, nine-bay mansion house. Improvements were made about 1819 by architect John Dobson. Hebburn Hall is a good example of a building in the Tyneside Classical tradition of the Dobson era.When Henry's son Cuthbert (High Sheriff in 1808) died without male issue in 1860, the estate passed to his nephew Colonel Cuthbert Ellison, then to the colonel's sister, Mary Ellison, in 1867 & finally, in 1870, to Ralph Carr of Dunston Hill, Gateshead & Hedgeley Hall, Northumberland. After this the house soon fell out of use as a residence. At the request of Cuthbert Ellison, from 1871, Ralph Carr was granted permission to style himself Carr-Ellison. In 1886 the west wing and some outbuildings were converted by architect FR Wilson to use as a church for the new parish of St John the Evangelist and the rectory. The east wing served as an infirmary from 1897 until 1976, and then briefly as a masonic temple. In 1999 new owners refurbished the dilapidated property and restored it to residential use.

St Joseph's Catholic Academy (formerly St Joseph's RC Comprehensive School) is a coeducational Roman Catholic secondary school with academy status, located in Hebburn, South Tyneside, England. The school currently caters for students aged 11 to 18 and also a number of vocational courses. It is one of a number of secondary schools in the local authority area that has a sixth form. The school is on the B1306, near the A185 junction, in the south of Hebburn, one mile north of the terminus of the A194(M). It is on the district boundary with Gateshead. Further down Mill Lane until 1992 was the Monkton Coke Works.

Hebburn is a town in South Tyneside, Tyne and Wear, England. Hebburn is on the south bank of the River Tyne in North East England situated between the towns of Jarrow and Gateshead and to the south of Walker. The population of Hebburn was 18,808 in 2001, reducing to 16,492 at the 2011 Census for the two Hebburn Wards (North Hebburn and South Hebburn). Once part of the private Ellison estate, and made an independent Urban District in 1894, in 1974 it became part of the metropolitan county of Tyne and Wear. Hebburn lies within the historic boundaries of County Durham.

Hebburn Comprehensive School is a coeducational secondary school located in Hebburn, Tyne and Wear, England, with pupils aged from 11 to 16.The school was previously awarded specialist status as a Maths and Computing College. In the spring of 2010, the school began a complete refurbishment as part of the Building Schools for the Future programme that was completed in April 2012. The school now has features such as the Atrium and new IT facilities. Also, later on in the year, the Music block containing the LRC, Music Department and the Main Hall were refurbished. Hebburn Comprehensive School offers GCSEs and NCFE Technical awards as programmes of study for pupils.

Walker was a railway station on the Riverside Branch which ran between Byker and Willington Quay. The station served Walker in Newcastle upon Tyne. The station was opened to passengers on 1 May 1879 by the North Eastern Railway. Originally known as Low Walker, it was later renamed Walker on 13 May 1889.

Springwell railway station served Springwell Village, Tyne and Wear, England, from 1844 to 1871 on the Durham Coast Line.

Monkton Coke Works was a coking plant near Hebburn, Tyne and Wear, England.

Swan Hunter, formerly known as Swan Hunter & Wigham Richardson, is a shipbuilding design, engineering, and management company, based in Wallsend, Tyne and Wear, England. At its apex, the company represented the combined forces of three powerful shipbuilding families: Swan, Hunter and Wigham Richardson. The company was responsible for some of the greatest ships of the early 20th century, most famously RMS Mauretania which held the Blue Riband for the fastest crossing of the Atlantic, and RMS Carpathia which rescued survivors from RMS Titanic. In 2006 Swan Hunter ceased vessel construction on Tyneside, but continues to provide design engineering services.

Bill Quay is a residential area in Gateshead, located around 4 miles (6.4 km) from Newcastle upon Tyne, 12 miles (19 km) from Sunderland, and 17 miles (27 km) from Durham. In 2011, Census data for the Gateshead Metropolitan Borough Council ward of Heworth and Pelaw recorded a total population of 9,100.Bill Quay is situated between Hebburn to the east, and Pelaw to the southwest. It lies on the south bank of the River Tyne, facing Walker. The area is home to Bill Quay Albion Cricket Club, competitors in the Durham Cricket League.

Wardley is a residential area in Gateshead, located around 4 miles (6.4 km) from Newcastle upon Tyne, 10 miles (16 km) from Sunderland, and 15 miles (24 km) from Durham. In 2011, Census data for the Gateshead Metropolitan Borough Council ward of Wardley and Leam Lane recorded a total population of 8,327.Wardley is made up of mainly privately-owned housing, with a number of local shops located on Keir Hardie Avenue, and a post office, which is situated on Lingey Avenue. A bar and brasserie, The Green, is located on Leam Lane, along with Heworth Golf Club.

Carville Power Station refers to a pair of now partially demolished coal-fired power stations, situated in North East England on the north bank of the River Tyne at Wallsend. The two stations were built alongside each other on a riverside site about 5 mi (8.0 km) downstream of Newcastle upon Tyne. Carville A Power Station, the first station on the site was opened in 1904, and Carville B Power Station was opened in 1916 to its south. The stations were a major factor in increasing the productivity of the neighbouring shipyards, which became some of the biggest in the world, as well as benefiting the nearby engineering works and coal mines by providing them with a cheap and reliable source of electricity. It also played a major role in enabling the electrification of the Tyneside railways and tramways. The station's design set the pattern for power station layout and design for most of the early twentieth century, as it was the first in the world to use the "unit system" of layout, whereby each boiler and turbine generating set is directly connected electrically to an alternator, and can work independently from any other generating unit in the station. At various times the stations were the largest in the UK.
