The George R. Brown Convention Center (GRB), opened on September 26, 1987, is located on the east side of Downtown Houston, Texas, United States. The center was named for internationally recognized entrepreneur, engineer, civic leader, philanthropist and Houstonian George R. Brown (1898–1983). George and his brother, Herman, turned Brown & Root into the world's largest construction and engineering company. Later, he and investors founded Texas Eastern Transmission Company, which donated six of the 11 blocks required to build the GRB. The center is owned by the city of Houston and managed by the Houston First Corporation. The facility was completed with a price tag of $104.9 million (equivalent to $218 million in 2021), requiring 30 months and more than 1,200 workers. The 100-foot-high (30 m) red-white-and-blue building replaced the obsolete Albert Thomas Convention Center, which was later redeveloped into the Bayou Place entertainment complex in the downtown Houston Theater District. It is the first convention center in the world to have a permanent Bitcoin ATM. The convention center is served by METRORail light rail service at Convention District station.

The 2001 Texaco/Havoline Grand Prix of Houston was a Championship Auto Racing Teams (CART) motor race held on October 7, 2001 on the streets of Houston, Texas, USA. It was the 18th round of the 2001 CART FedEx Championship Series season. Gil de Ferran took his second win of the season for Team Penske after starting on pole position and leading every lap ahead of Dario Franchitti and Memo Gidley. de Ferran inherited the lead of the drivers' standings from Kenny Bräck by virtue of his win here and at the previous race at Rockingham, a lead he would not relinquish for the rest of the season. The difficult road course on the streets of Houston meant that little on-track passing could occur, and de Ferran's position throughout the race was rarely in jeopardy. Franchitti was one of the few that could muscle his way through the field despite being hit by Hélio Castroneves at the start of the race, taking his third podium finish at Houston in four starts and his third podium of the season. Gidley, after starting 23rd, used pit strategy to move his way through the field and take his second podium of the season and his career. The race saw multiple incidents and crashes as drivers struggled around the temporary circuit. Alex Tagliani, despite running near the front for the entire race, crashed from 2nd place with just seven laps remaining. Oriol Servià and Michel Jourdain Jr. also crashed on Lap 37, with Servià's car ending up on top of Jourdain's. This was the final time CART would race at this track configuration in Houston; the series would return in 2006 and 2007 using a temporary circuit at NRG Park, while the IndyCar Series would race in Houston from 2013-2014.

Avenida Houston (ah-veh-NEE-duh) is the name of the neighborhood generally surrounding the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston, Texas. It is the finished product of the initial phase of Houston First Corporation’s 2025 GRB Master Plan for redeveloping the eastern edge of downtown. Houston First is a local government corporation that operates Houston’s convention and performing arts facilities. A local government corporation formed in 2011, Houston First manages more than 10 city-owned buildings and properties and underground and surface parking for nearly 7,000 vehicles. In addition to the George R. Brown, other prominent facilities under HFC management include the Hilton Americas-Houston Hotel, Jones Hall for the Performing Arts, Wortham Theater Center an Miller Outdoor Theatre. Central to the Avenida Houston campus is the newly designed Avenida Plaza in front of the George R. Brown that favors pedestrians over vehicle traffic and allows visitors easy access to Discovery Green Park and two convention headquarter-size hotels, the Hilton Americas-Houston (1,200 rooms) and the new Marriott Marquis (1,000 rooms).A wave of diverse restaurants is being developed in the area, including Grotto Downtown, Bud's Pitmaster BBQ, McAlister's Deli, Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen and Kulture. In addition, Avenida Houston features unique art installations and programmed events. The most prominent works are Ed Wilson's Soaring in the Clouds and Joe O'Connell and Creative Machine's Wings Over Water. At the north end of Avenida Houston is Partnership Tower, a 10-story office building that opened on September 12, 2016. HFC maintains its corporate offices in Partnership Tower. Other organizations with employees in the building are Greater Houston Partnership, Harris County-Houston Sports Authority and the Hotel Lodging Association of Greater Houston. Nearby, sporting and concert venues Minute Maid Park, Toyota Center and BBVA Compass Stadium are additional attractions for those visiting Avenida Houston.

Monument au Fantôme (English: Monument to the Phantom) is an outdoor sculpture by French sculptor Jean Dubuffet, installed on Avenida de las Americas at Discovery Green in Houston, Texas, United States. The painted fiberglass and steel frame sculpture features seven individual forms that represent features of Houston, including a chimney, church, dog, hedge, mast, phantom, and tree. Donated by the Dan Duncan family, it is part of Dubuffet's Hourloupe series, which has companion sculptures in Chicago, New York, and in Europe.

Biggio's is a sports bar and restaurant in Houston, Texas. It has been described as the largest sports bar in Texas. Created in partnership with Craig Biggio and the Houston Astros, as well as Marriott Marquis Houston, the bar has been described as MLB-owned by the Houston Press.

The Marriott Marquis Houston is a 1000-room Marriott hotel in Houston, Texas. It is the second large hotel located near the George R. Brown Convention Center, to which is connected by a pedestrian sky bridge. It includes six restaurants and a 40,000-square-foot ballroom, the largest in Houston. The hotel is the sixth Marriott Marquis Hotel. It is most famous for the Texas shaped lazy river located on the sixth floor rooftop deck.The Marriott Marquis Houston was developed in partnership with RIDA Development. RIDA Development also is the prime interest owner. The Marriott Marquis Houston contains numerous works of art from both local and nationally known artist. A portrait made of spent shell casings of David Mitzner the founder of RIDA Development is on display.

Convention District is a light rail station in Houston, Texas on the METRORail system. It is served by the Green and Purple lines and is located on Capitol and Rusk streets near the Avenida De La Americas. The station is named for the nearby George R. Brown Convention Center; it is also adjacent to Minute Maid Park, the home venue of the MLB team the Houston Astros. Convention District station opened on May 23, 2015.

Hess Tower is a 29-story building located adjacent to Discovery Green park in downtown Houston, Texas. It was formerly called Discovery Tower until Hess Corporation leased the entire tower in January 2009.The global architectural firm Gensler designed the building. The building was a project of Trammell Crow Company, a real estate development and investment firm.The building was originally designed to house a number of wind turbines, but the turbines were removed in December 2010.

The Warehouse Live is a large club/small theater-sized live entertainment venue located in East Downtown (EADO), Houston, Texas.Warehouse Live was converted from a warehouse built in the 1920s. The venue is distinctive for its LED chandeliers. There are three separate performance rooms: The Ballroom (capacity 1,300), The Studio (capacity 450) and The Greenroom (capacity 150). All concerts are standing-room-only as there are no seats in the venue. Warehouse Live was awarded Houston's "Best Musical Venue" in 2008 by Citysearch. In 2017 Warehouse Live served as the Atlanta Falcons' Official Fan Headquarters during Super Bowl LI at NRG Stadium in Houston, TX.

The Arthur B. Cohn House (also known locally as the "Blue House") is a property listed on the National Register of Historic Places located in downtown Houston. The house is now about a block away from its original location at 1711 Rusk Avenue to the 600 block of Avenidas de las Americas, adjacent to Minute Maid Park, and will shortly be moved to a former parking lot site at the corner of Commerce and Hamilton Streets. The Queen Anne house was built for Cohn in 1905 by local architect, Michael DeChaumes.

One Park Place is a 518 ft (158 m) tall apartment building located adjacent to Discovery Green park in downtown Houston, Texas. Completed by The Finger Companies in May 2009, the building has 340 units on 30 floors with a total height of 501 feet (153 m) and 37 floors.The building has 346 apartment units. The ground floor has retail shops and restaurants, while the six floors immediately above the ground floor have secure parking.
