Lake Manawa

Lake Manawa State Park is located in Council Bluffs, Iowa. It is based around Lake Manawa, a man-made lake created to relieve water from the Missouri River and is located in southwest Council Bluffs.

Mosquito Creek, about 60 mi. (97 km) long, is a tributary of the Missouri River in southwest Iowa in the United States. It rises near Earling, in Shelby County, and flows in a generally southwesterly direction, meeting the Missouri approximately 5 mi. (8 km) downstream of Council Bluffs. Mosquito Creek was named by pioneer settlers (Mormons) for the great number of mosquitoes near this stream when they camped there.

Horseshoe Council Bluffs is a casino and former greyhound racing track in Council Bluffs, Iowa, near Omaha, Nebraska. It is owned by Vici Properties and operated by Caesars Entertainment. It has 60,000 sq ft (5,600 m2) of gaming space with 1,438 slot machines, 63 table games, a William Hill racebook, and a WSOP poker room. Accommodations are offered at an adjoining Hilton Garden Inn, and the nearby Country Inns & Suites, Holiday Inn Express and SpringHill Suites. The Horseshoe holds the World Series of Poker Circuit Event during August of each calendar year, and the Horseshoe Poker Championships (HPC) during February in each year in their poker room. Bluffs Run Greyhound Park opened in 1986. In March 1995, slot machines were added and the property became Bluffs Run Casino. Harveys Casino Resorts bought the property in 1999 for $165 million. Harrah's Entertainment (now Caesars Entertainment) acquired Harveys in 2001. In 2006, Harrah's completed an $85-million expansion and renovation of the casino and rebranded it as Horseshoe Council Bluffs. Greyhound racing ended in 2015. On October 6, 2017, ownership of the property was transferred to Vici Properties as part of a corporate spin-off, and it was leased back to Caesars Entertainment.

The Sandwich–Marseilles Manufacturing Building, also known as the Dwarfies/Breeders Supply Building, is a historic building located in Council Bluffs, Iowa, United States. This building was built by the Sandwich Manufacturing Company and the Marseilles Manufacturing Company in what is known as the Implement District, an industrial area south of the central business district that was home to farm implement manufacturers. The two-story section on the north side was completed in 1883, and the single-story addition on the south side was completed sometime between 1889 and 1891. Marseilles then occupied the addition while Sandwich remained in the original building. There was a shift from agricultural implements to food processing as the area's business interests began to diversify. Dwarfies Corporation, a cereal manufacturer, took over the building in 1929. It is the only remaining building left in the city to illustrate this shift. The building was damaged in a fire in 1947. Dwarfies rebuilt this building and then built a new factory in 1949 along U.S. Route 6. Breeders Supply Company, an international mail order business for breeding supplies, moved into this building the following year. They used it as a warehouse for ten years. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2014.

The Mid-America Center is an arena and convention center located in Council Bluffs, Iowa, just five minutes from downtown Omaha, Nebraska. The arena's maximum capacity is about 9,000 for concerts and 6,700 for ice hockey and arena football. The arena continues to provide free parking. Caesars Entertainment began managing the Center in 2012, taking over from SMG.It was the home of the Iowa Blackhawks of the APFL. From 2002 to 2009, it hosted the Omaha Lancers of the USHL. From February 19, 2011, to February 2013, it hosted roller derby bouts for the Omaha Rollergirls of the WFTDA. From rock shows to family shows to USHL hockey to community events, the arena has hosted many top names in the music industry. The convention center has hosted the Omaha Press Club Show, Peel's Salon Shows, OWH Bridal Ideas Shows, River City Hunting & Fishing Expo and Nebraska State Bridge Tournament, which hosts Warren Buffett and Bill Gates.

The Lewis Central Community School District is a public school district headquartered in Council Bluffs, Iowa, U.S. The district is located primarily in southwestern Council Bluffs. It serves the southern portion of the Council Bluffs as well as rural Pottawattamie County and a small part of northern Mills County.

The McCormick Harvesting Machine Company Building, also known as the International Harvester Transfer House is an historic building located in Council Bluffs, Iowa, United States. The first railroad arrived in the city in 1867, and by 1898 there were 11 truck line railroads that terminated here. That made Council Bluffs an excellent place for the transfer and distribution of goods. Chicago based McCormick Harvesting Machine Company had this four-story brick structure built in 1894 as one of their branch houses. Those facilities acted as a dealership for the company's products. In the 1902 McCormick and four other companies merged to form International Harvester (IH). By 1922, this building became one of IH's four domestic transfer house facilities. Those facilities received large stocks of the company's products by train and distributed them to the branch houses. IH continued to use this building until 1964. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2012.

The Pioneer Implement Company, also known as the International Harvester Transfer House, is a historic building located in Council Bluffs, Iowa, United States. Eli Shugart, Ferdinand Weis and F.R. Davis formed Pioneer Implement Company in 1893, and they built the four-story Late Victorian section of the building the same year. This was during a period of growth in the city's "Implement District," which is located to the south of the central business district. What made this company standout from the others in the district is that it was locally owned and operated agricultural implement business, rather than one owned by a factory from the east. The company went out of business in 1915 and the building was taken over by International Harvester, which owned the building next door. They added the single story brick addition to the south in 1927. When IH closed their Council Bluffs operation in 1964 they were the only farm implement that was still in business in the Implement District. The building was occupied by various businesses after that, including United Parcel Service. Artspace, Inc. acquired the building and converted it into live/work spaces for artists. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2008.

Council Bluffs is a city in and the county seat of Pottawattamie County, Iowa, United States. The city is the most populous in Southwest Iowa, and is the third largest and a primary city of the Omaha-Council Bluffs Metropolitan Area. It is located on the east bank of the Missouri River, across from the city of Omaha, Nebraska. Council Bluffs was known, until at least 1853, as Kanesville. It was the historic starting point of the Mormon Trail. Kanesville is also the northernmost anchor town of the other emigrant trails, since there was a steam-powered boat to ferry their wagons, and cattle, across the Missouri River. In 1869, the first transcontinental railroad to California was connected to the existing U.S. rail network at Council Bluffs. Council Bluffs' population was 62,799 at the time of the 2020 census, making it the state's tenth largest city. The Omaha metropolitan region, of which Council Bluffs is a part, is the 58th largest in the United States, with an estimated population of 967,604 (2020).
