The Central North Correctional Centre formerly known as "The Superjail" is a maximum security prison located in Penetanguishene, Ontario, Canada. During its period of private management from 2001 to 2006, it was the only privately-run adult correctional facility in Canada.

Waypoint Centre for Mental Health Care (French: Waypoint Centre de soins de santé mentale) formerly known as Mental Health Centre Penetanguishene, is a 301-bed specialty mental health hospital located on the shores of Georgian Bay in the Town of Penetanguishene, approximately 150 kilometres (93 mi) north of Toronto. Waypoint provides both acute and longer-term psychiatric inpatient and outpatient services to Simcoe County, part of Dufferin County and Muskoka and the southern part of Parry Sound. Waypoint is the region's only specialty mental and addiction health hospital and the province's only high secure forensic mental health program for clients served by both the mental health and justice systems.

Penetanguishene Naval Yard was a Royal Navy yard from 1834 to 1856 in Ontario. Land was first acquired in 1798 near Penetanguishene and a base finally built in 1813, but it was abandoned in 1815 at the end of the War of 1812. It was reinstated in 1816 and remained in naval service until 1834. The base served as the headquarters of the Lake Huron fleet of the Provincial Marine until 1834. The navy transferred the base to the army and continued until 1856. The base also served northwestern supply routes and provided general surveillance of the upper Great Lakes. Napier Simpson Jr. 1925–1978, a restoration architect in Ontario devoted his professional life to raising public awareness of the importance of heritage conservation including the Penetanguishene's Historic Naval and Military Establishment. project, now known as Discovery Harbour.

The Protestant Separate School Board of the Town of Penetanguishene (PSSBP) is a separate English-language school board headquartered in Penetanguishene, Ontario, Canada. The board consists of a single school, the Burkevale Protestant Separate School. It is the only non-Catholic separate school in Ontario.

Penetanguishene ( , sometimes shortened to Penetang) is a town in Simcoe County, Ontario, Canada. It is located on the southeasterly tip of Georgian Bay. Incorporated on February 22, 1882, this bilingual (French and English) community has a population of 8,962 in the Canada 2016 Census. The name Penetanguishene is believed to come from either the Wyandot or Abenaki via Ojibwe, meaning "land of the white rolling sands".

Georgian Bay District SS ("GBDSS") is a Public high school in Midland, Simcoe County, in Central Ontario, Canada. Students attend from Midland/Penetanguishene and surrounding areas including Hillsdale, Port McNicoll, Waubaushene, Victoria Harbour, Honey Harbour, Wyevale and Christian Island. The principal is Hailey McLean. GBDSS offers open, applied and academic courses in Grade 9 through 12, a Life Skills program and two off-site Alternative Learning Programs, one with a focus on Native culture. GBDSS offers e-learning courses in addition to regular classes. All school programs focused on academics, co-curricular, and community involvement.In 2014, an announcement was made that Midland SS and Penetanguishene SS would amalgamate, due to the declining enrollment of both schools. PSS closed at the end of the 2015–16 school year, with its 350 students joining the 500 students at the existing MSS building, which could accommodate up to 1,400 students, while construction of the new school took place. Construction began in the spring of 2016, and was expected to open in September 2018; however, in July of that year it was announced that it would not be ready. A new completion date was not provided. The new building opened for students on February 4, 2019.Students at the school are involved in Student Council initiatives; international student exchanges; co-curricular programs associated with music, art, and drama; a variety of special interest clubs; and athletics. GBDSS is located in area "A" of the school board, the superintendent is Susan Sidlofsky.

Midland is a town located on Georgian Bay in Simcoe County, Ontario, Canada. It is part of the Huronia/Wendat region of Central Ontario. Located at the southern end of Georgian Bay's 30,000 Islands, Midland is the economic centre of the region, with a 125-bed hospital and a local airport (Midland/Huronia Airport). It is the main town of the southern Georgian Bay area. In the summer months, the area's population grows to over 100,000 with seasonal visitors to more than 8,000 cottages, resort hotels, provincial and national parks in the surrounding municipalities of Penetanguishene, Tiny, Tay, and Beausoleil First Nation.

The Midland Cultural Centre is a public multi-use complex located in Midland, Ontario, Canada. The 2787 m2 (30 000 sq ft) building is home to three main groups: Quest Art School and Gallery, the Huronia Players theatre company, and Rotary Hall, a community event space.The Midland Cultural Centre was designed by Howard Rideout of Howard Rideout Architect (HRA), in collaboration with IHD Design Build. The project’s client and benefactor, local philanthropist Reinhart Weber, was also involved in the design, ensuring that his plan to create an arts Centre in the heart of downtown Midland would come to fruition. Reinhart Weber donated the funds needed for the $7.5 million project.

The Huronia Museum is located in Midland, Ontario, Canada. The museum consists of the museum building (housing collections and art gallery) and the Huron/Ouendat (Wendat) village (palisade and longhouse). The museum is open year-round and has nearly one million objects and receives some 20,000 visitors each year. The collections include artifacts pertaining to native history and maritime history. The museum provides educational programmes for schools and adults.

St. Theresa's High School is a high school in Midland, Ontario, Canada administered by the Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board. The school serves students from Midland, Penetanguishene, Tay Township, Tiny Township and a portion of Springwater Township (Elmvale). The current enrollment is 700 students from grade 9–12. The current administration consists of principal George Luck, vice principals Megan Clark and Karen McNamara.

SS Midland City was originally a Canadian side-wheel steamboat that provided passenger and cargo transportation on the Great Lakes from 1871 until 1955. Originally named Maud, then America, she underwent several extensive refits over her 84-year service, and saw several owners. The ship was intentionally run aground and burnt to the waterline in 1955 near the mouth of the Wye River in Midland Bay. The wreck is intact and visible above the water to this day, where it acts as a breakwater for the Wye Heritage Marina and local attraction.

Awenda Provincial Park is a provincial park in Tiny Township, Simcoe County in Central Ontario, Canada, located on a peninsula jutting into Georgian Bay north of Penetanguishene. The park occupies an area of 2,915 hectares (7,200 acres) and was established in 1975. It is classified as a Natural Environment Park and therefore all land is protected. Giants Tomb Island, located in southern Georgian Bay approximately 3 kilometres (1.9 mi) from the mainland and the majority of the island is part of the park. On the island, no overnight camping is allowed, and no facilities are provided. Recreational activities at Awenda include camping, swimming, canoeing and hiking. Geological features include the Nipissing Bluff and a kettle lake formed during the retreat of the glaciers at the end of the most recent ice age. The shoreline consists of a series of sand, cobble, and boulder beaches. Much of this area was logged around the beginning of the 20th century, so most of the mature deciduous forests here are actually second growth. Although dominated by mature deciduous forest, the park has a diversity of habitats, including: bogs, fens, coastal meadow marshes, dunes and pine oak savanna. It supports a rich variety of plant and animal life -including 32 species of amphibians and reptiles.
