Cairns railway station

Cairns Central Shopping Centre is in Cairns City, Cairns, Far North Queensland, Australia. It is Cairns' biggest shopping centre. The centre was opened in late 1997 and is the second multi-story shopping centre in northern Queensland. The shopping centre is built over the Cairns railway station, which is incorporated with the centre. Pedestrian access to the station is through the car park on the bottom floor, or a pedestrian walkway on the second floor. Construction of the shopping centre was delayed temporarily due to damage suffered from Tropical Cyclone Justin in early 1997. Cairns Central currently contains 5 anchor stores including: 1 Floor Myer department Store. Target discount department store. The store temporarily pulled out of the centre in April 2021 to swap locations with Kmart. The store opened in November 2021. Kmart discount department store. It originally opened in the former Bi-Lo supermarket until it was moved into the former Target space in 2021. Coles Supermarket. Woolworths Supermarket. Opened on December 15, 2020 as part of a recent redevelopment and took over the second-floor of Myer. Event Cinemas Cinema complex.The centre is jointly owned by Lend Lease, owners of other Australian shopping centres such as Sunshine Plaza and Canelands Central and The Westfield Group.Cairns Central as of June 2008 recorded more than $353 million in sales and has centre visits of 10 million a year.

The shire, administered from Cairns, covered an area of 1,718.3 square kilometres (663.4 sq mi); it existed as a local government entity from 1879 until 1995, when it was dissolved and amalgamated into the City of Cairns.

The Cairns Chinatown Building is a heritage-listed commercial building at 99 Grafton Street, Cairns City, Cairns, Cairns Region, Queensland, Australia. It was built from c. 1892 to c. 1902 and is one of the last remaining buildings from the Cairns Chinatown. It was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 27 May 2005.

The Sovereign Yidindji Government or Yidindji Tribal Nation is an Aboriginal Australian micro-nation that claims to exercise Australian Aboriginal sovereignty. Led by Murrumu Walubara Yidindji, members of the Yidindji nation renounced legal ties with Australia in 2014. The land they claim lies in the state of Queensland and stretches "south of Port Douglas, through Cairns, inland across the Atherton Tablelands and 80 kilometres (50 mi) out to sea”. The chief minister is Gudju Gudju Gimuybara, while Murrumu is foreign affairs and trade minister.The Yidindji government is hoping to enter into a memorandum of understanding with the Commonwealth of Australia. It is also "reaching out to countries like Russia and Venezuela to establish diplomatic relations". The Yidindji nation has its own driver licensing system. Murrumu was charged by police in May 2015 after being caught with a license and registration plates issued by the Yidindji government and not by the Queensland government.In 2022 the micro-nation launched the 'Sovereign Yidindji Dollar', a central bank digital currency pegged to the Australian dollar and claimed to be backed by gold and silver bars.

The City of Cairns was a local government area centred on the Far North Queensland city of Cairns. Established in 1885, for most of its existence it consisted of approximately 51.5 square kilometres (19.9 sq mi) around Cairns itself, with much of the metropolitan area being located in the Shire of Mulgrave. The Shire amalgamated into the City on 22 March 1995, as did small sections of neighbouring shires. In 2008, the City amalgamated with the Shire of Douglas to become the Cairns Region.

It was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 21 October 1992.The Cairns Museum is a local history museum operated by the Cairns Historical Society.

It was designed by Tunbridge, Tunbridge & Lynch and built from 1908 to 1909 by W Phillips. It is also known as Central Building and Central Court. It was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 21 October 1992.
