The River Road Historic Rural District is a historic district located on the western side of the Millstone River along a six-mile segment of River Road / County Route 533 in Hillsborough and Montgomery Townships, Somerset County, New Jersey. It is bounded on the north by Hillsborough Road and on the south by Van Horne Road / U.S. Route 206. The district was added to the National Register of Historic Places on March 21, 1991.

Before roads were improved and people traveled by automobiles, it was known as the Devil's Featherbed because it was difficult to travel the rocky terrain by horse and wagon.As of the 2010 United States Census, the rural borough's population was 682, reflecting an increase of 20 (+3.0%) from the 662 counted in the 2000 Census. This was a decline of 31 persons (-4.5%) from the 693 counted in the 1990 Census.Rocky Hill was incorporated as a borough by an act of the New Jersey Legislature on December 18, 1889, from portions of Montgomery Township, based on the results of a referendum held four days earlier.

Kingston is an unincorporated community and census designated place (CDP) along the border of South Brunswick Township in Middlesex County and Franklin Township in Somerset County, in New Jersey, United States. At the 2010 United States Census, the CDP's population was 1,493, of which 1,222 were in South Brunswick Township and 271 in Franklin Township.The New Jersey State Planning Commission created the Kingston Village Advisory Committee in 2001 to address issues related to this distinct area. Both South Brunswick and Franklin appoint members to the committee, which holds an annual meeting to discuss issues pertinent to the Kingston area. Kingston is (so far) unique as the only village center that has been officially designated by the New Jersey State Planning Commission.Kingston is located in five historic districts and is part of the Millstone River Valley Scenic Byway. The Delaware and Raritan Canal and Rockingham State Historic Site are a short distance away.

The district was added to the National Register of Historic Places on June 10, 1975 for its significance in agriculture and commerce from 1730 to 1850. It includes nine contributing buildings and two contributing structures.

Little Rocky Hill is an unincorporated community located within South Brunswick Township in Middlesex County and Franklin Township, Somerset County, New Jersey, United States. The community is located atop a small hill east of the borough of Rocky Hill. The Middlesex–Somerset county line runs through the community along Old Road though elsewhere it follows Route 27. Carters Brook runs through the area flowing south.
