Spring Garden is a subway station on SEPTA's Broad Street subway in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It is an express station with four tracks and two island platforms. Spring Garden is the northernmost station in Center City, serving Community College of Philadelphia, the School District of Philadelphia Building, the Inquirer Building (former home of Philadelphia newspapers The Philadelphia Inquirer and Philadelphia Daily News), Ben Franklin High School and miscellaneous office buildings, restaurants, and clubs. The Philadelphia Museum of Art is ten blocks west of the station, while the Northern Liberties neighborhood lies approximately eight blocks east. Near this station is Masterman Laboratory & Demonstration School. There are numerous restaurants and shops nearby which makes this a very busy station. Spring Garden station is the seventh busiest station on the Broad Street Line, with 10,000 riders a day.

The Cohoquinoque Creek was formerly a stream running west to east through the Callowhill neighborhood in Philadelphia, along the southern part of Northern Liberties and immediately north of original northern boundary of Philadelphia. This small tributary of the Delaware River remains today, as a sewer, under Willow Street, which winds its way through what is sometimes called the East Callowhill Industrial District. Its name, spelled various ways (Cohoquenoque, Cohoquonoque, Cohoquinoke), is said to be derived from a Lenni-Lenape word for "the grove of long pine trees." This was also the name of a nearby Lenape village. Accounts vary, but Cohoquinoque Creek arose around the present-day intersection of Fifteenth and Spring Garden Streets (and perhaps as far north as Fairmount Avenue) and was also fed by a well-known spring in the Spring Garden district near present-day Ninth Street. The creek was later primarily known as Pegg's Run. Willow Street, a rare curvilinear street in the older part of Philadelphia, is wavy because it follows the course of the old stream. For centuries, Cohoquinoque Creek has often been confused with Cohocksink Creek, which is about a mile to the north.

The Mathematics, Civics and Sciences Charter School (MCSCS) is a charter school serving students in grades 1–12 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States. Founded in 1999, the school is located in the Center City neighborhood and had a 100% graduation rate in 2015–2016.

Spring Garden College—founded in 1851 as the Spring Garden Institute—was a private technical college in the Spring Garden section of Philadelphia. Its building at 523-25 North Broad Street (demolished) was designed by architect Stephen Decatur Button. The Broad Street building housed the institute until 1969. The school relocated to 102 East Mermaid Lane at the former Yarnall-Waring Company Machine Works and was renamed "Spring Garden College" with bachelor's degree programs being offered for the first time. In 1985 the college moved to 7500 Germantown Avenue in nearby Mt. Airy. Declining enrollment and financial problems forced its closure in 1992.Prior to its closing, Spring Garden was regionally accredited by the Commission on Higher Education of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. Additionally, the Baccalaureate Degree programs in Computer Engineering Technology, Electronics engineering technology, and Mechanical Engineering Technology were accredited by the Technology Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).

The School District of Philadelphia (SDP) is the school district that includes all school district-operated public schools in Philadelphia. Established in 1818, it is the 8th largest school district in the nation, by enrollment, serving over 200,000 students.The school board was created in 1850 to oversee the schools of Philadelphia. The Act of Assembly of April 5, 1867, designated that the Controllers of the Public Schools of Philadelphia were to be appointed by the judges of the Court of Common Pleas. There was one Controller to be appointed from each ward. This was done to eliminate politics from the management of the schools.Eventually, the management of the school district was given to a school board appointed by the mayor. This continued until 2001 when the district was taken over by the state, and the governor was given the power to appoint a majority of the five members of the new School Reform Commission. In July 2018, the School Reform Commission (SRC) was disbanded and control of the district was returned to the city and its newly selected Philadelphia School Board.

Benjamin Franklin High School is a public high school located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The school, located north of Center City, is a part of the School District of Philadelphia. Franklin serves sections of North Philadelphia and Center City. Franklin is a mostly African American school. In the late 1960s, there was a student-led effort to rename the school in honor of recently slain Malcolm X. This effort officially failed, but some students still refer to the school by this name.Around 2005, Franklin began housing a charter school catering to Chinese Americans. In addition, as part of an international studies academy, it added Mandarin Chinese as a foreign language for study in 2005. The new international studies focus attracted 40 new students from the Chinatown area.

The Inquirer Building, formerly called the Elverson Building, is an eighteen-story building at the intersection of North Broad and Callowhill Streets in the Logan Square neighborhood of Philadelphia, completed in 1924 as the new home for the newspaper The Philadelphia Inquirer, which was joined by the Philadelphia Daily News in 1957. The original name refers to James Elverson, the publisher of the Inquirer from 1889 until his death in 1911. His son, "Colonel" James Elverson Jr., took over as publisher, and had the building constructed and dedicated to his father. The building is the new headquarters of the Philadelphia Police Department, the 6th and 9th Police Districts, and the Medical Examiner's Office.

Thaddeus Stevens School of Observation is a historic school building located in the Poplar neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It was designed by Irwin T. Catharine and built in 1926–1927. It is a five-story, brick building on a limestone base and grade-level basement in the Late Gothic Revival-style. It features a projecting entrance bay with Gothic arch opening, round arched openings, and decorative spandrel panels. It was used as an "observation school" for teacher education and training. It is named for Congressman Thaddeus Stevens (1792–1868). The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1988. The school has since closed and been turned into lofts. In 1998 Philadelphia based mural artist Meg Saligman painted the iconic mural "Common Threads," wherein she depicts a humanity shared across time, today's youth paralleled with classical figures. All models for the mural were local high school students.

Callowhill Industrial Historic District is a national historic district located in the Callowhill neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It encompasses 31 contributing buildings, 1 contributing site, and 1 contributing structure. The commercial and industrial buildings were mostly built from the 1890s through the 1930s. They range from 4 to 14 stories in height and the exteriors are of brick, concrete, terra cotta, and stone. Most of the buildings are characterized as box-shaped, mid-rise loft buildings with flat roofs. Also in the district are eleven 2+1⁄2-story brick rowhouses, with the earliest dated to the 1830s. Notable buildings include the Rebman Building (1903), Stewart Cracker Building (c. 1900), U.S. Tire Company Building (1911), Lasher Building (1927), Philadelphia City Morgue (1928), and Overland Motor Company Building (1910, c. 1940). Located in the district and listed separately are the Smaltz Building (1912), Terminal Commerce Building, Goodman Brothers and Hinlein Company, and the Packard Motor Corporation Building.In 2012 the Overland Motor Company Building was demolished by The Pennsylvania Ballet in order to make room for their planned Louise Reed Center for Dance. In 2018 the U.S. Tire Company Building met with the same fate.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2010.

The Philadelphia Museum of Jewish Art, founded in 1975, located within historic Congregation Rodeph Shalom, is dedicated to exhibiting contemporary art that illuminates the Jewish experience. The museum has organized solo and group exhibitions of work in many mediums by artists of diverse backgrounds. In addition to its special-exhibit gallery, the Museum features a permanent collection of important works by accomplished artists including William Anastasi, Chaim Gross, Tobi Kahn, Joan Snyder, Shelley Spector, Boaz Vaadia and Roman Vishniac. Showcased in the Thalheimer Entrance Foyer of the synagogue on Broad Street is the museum's Leon J. and Julia S. Obermayer Collection of Jewish Ritual Art.

The Biberman Building is a historic factory located in the Spring Garden neighborhood of Philadelphia. It was built in 1919–1920, and is a six-story, reinforced concrete building faced in brick and limestone. It features a Classical Revival-style entrance. A seventh floor was removed in 1975. It housed the Biberman Brothers, Co., clothing manufacturers, into the 1970s.The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2007.

Parkway Center City Middle College is a historic vocational school located in the Callowhill neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It is part of the School District of Philadelphia. The building was built in 1925–1927 and is a brick building in the Academic Gothic-style. Prior to its current status Parkway Center City Middle College was known as Parkway Center City and was located at 1118 Market Street. The school served as a division of the former Parkway Program, a school without walls program. Also, this building was the former Stoddart-Fleischer Junior High School and later Middle School until it closed in June 2003. Parkway Center City Middle College is the first high school in Pennsylvania to present intellectuals with the possibility of finishing high school with a high school diploma and an associate degree. Working in partnership with the Community College of Philadelphia, our students are given unparalleled access to dual enrollment classes, with a maximum of 61 college credits available to some scholars throughout their high school careers. The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1986 as the Helen Fleischer Vocational School.
