Henry George Birthplace

The J. Peter Lesley House is a historic row house at 1008 Clinton Street in the Washington Square neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. A National Historic Landmark, it was for 27 years the home of John Peter Lesley (1819-1903), one of the leading geologists of the second half of the 19th century. The house is a private residence, and is not open to the public.

Clinton Street Historic District is a national historic district located in the Washington Square West neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It includes 71 brick rowhouses built between 1835 and 1850. They are between 3 1/2- and 4-stories and consist of the typical Philadelphia rowhouse plan with front building, piazza, and back building. It was a fashionable residential section in the 19th century and home to such notable figures as architect Addison Hutton (1834–1916), Rt. Rev. William Bacon Stevens (1815-1887), and Agnes Repplier (1855-1950). Located in the district and separately listed is the J. Peter Lesley House at 1008 Clinton Street.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1972.

Philadelphia's Magic Gardens is a non-profit organization, folk art environment, and gallery space on South Street in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. To date, it is the largest work created by mosaic artist Isaiah Zagar. The Magic Gardens spans three city lots, and includes indoor galleries and a large outdoor labyrinth. The mosaics are made up of everything from kitchen tiles to bike wheels, Latin-American art to china plates. The space is open for public view, from 11:00-6:00 Wednesday through Monday and closed on Tuesdays.

Engine Company No. 11 was a fire-engine company in Philadelphia. Established in 1871, it was a segregated African-American company from 1919, and was desegregated in 1952.

Portico Row is a set of 16 historic rowhouses located in the Washington Square West neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The brick houses were built between 1831 and 1832, and designed by Philadelphia architect Thomas Ustick Walter (1804–1887). They have the typical Philadelphia rowhouse plan with front building, piazza, and back building and are in the Greek Revival style. Each of the eight mirror-image pairs shared a common entrance portico supported by Ionic order columns.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1977.

The Institute for Colored Youth was founded in 1837 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States. It became the first college for African-Americans in the United States, although there were schools that admitted African Americans preceding it. At the time, public policy and certain statutory provisions prohibited the education of blacks in various parts of the nation and slavery was entrenched across the south. It was followed by two other black institutions— Lincoln University in Pennsylvania (1854), and Wilberforce University in Ohio (1856). The second site of the Institute for Colored Youth at Ninth and Bainbridge Streets in Philadelphia was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1986. It is also known as the Samuel J. Randall School. A three-story, three-bay brick building was built for it in 1865, in the Italianate-style After moving to Cheyney, Pennsylvania in Delaware County, Pennsylvania its name was changed to Cheyney University.

Wilson Eyre House is a historic residence located in the Washington Square West neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It was built between 1830 and 1835, and is a three-story brick dwelling with a low to medium roof and dormer. A three-story brick addition was added in 1909 by its then owner, architect Wilson Eyre (1858-1944). Eyre purchased the home in 1909, and occupied it until his death in 1944.The house was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1977.

Pennsylvania Hospital is a private, non-profit, 515-bed teaching hospital located in Center City Philadelphia and is part of the University of Pennsylvania Health System. Founded on May 11, 1751, by Benjamin Franklin and Dr. Thomas Bond, Pennsylvania Hospital is one of the earliest established public hospitals in the United States. It is also home to America's first surgical amphitheatre and its first medical library. The hospital's main building, dating to 1756, is a National Historic Landmark.

The John Stewart Houses are a set of five rowhouses in Center City, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. They were all built from 1870 to 1874 using the same Italianate design by Philadelphia architect John Stewart. They were listed on the National Register of Historic Places on November 20, 1979.Stewart bought the lots in 1870, while he, according to the deed, took out a $61,000 loan for construction of the buildings. Henry Phillippi, a carpenter who was apparently the contractor for the houses, received partial interest in several of them in the early 1870s. After Stewart died the completed houses were sold in a sheriff's sale in 1874.

J. Sylvester Ramsey School was a historic school building located in the Washington Square West neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It was built in 1850, in a vernacular Greek Revival style. It was a three-story, five bay gable roofed building with a three-story fire tower added in 1894.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1986. It has since been demolished.

The Frances Ellen Watkins Harper House is a historic row house at 1006 Bainbridge Street in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. Of uncertain construction date, it was the home of Frances Ellen Watkins Harper (1825-1911) from 1870 until her death. Harper was a prominent African-American abolitionist, women's rights and civil rights activist, and author. It was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1976.

The Standard Theatre showcased Philadelphia's most talented African-American performers and jazz musicians in the early twentieth century. During its peak years (1915–1930), the Standard was one of Philadelphia's most famous and successful black theaters. Its exceptional success can be attributed to its owner, John T. Gibson, an African-American man who envisioned affordable entertainment for people of color.
