South Bowers, Delaware

The Murderkill River is a river flowing to Delaware Bay in central Delaware in the United States. It is approximately 21.7 miles (34.9 km) long and drains an area of 106 square miles (270 km2) on the Atlantic Coastal Plain. The Murderkill flows for its entire length in southern Kent County. It rises just west of Felton and flows generally east-northeastwardly, through Killen Pond (site of Killens Pond State Park) and Coursey Pond, under Carpenters Bridge, and past Frederica to Bowers, where it enters Delaware Bay about 0.5 miles (1 km) south of the mouth of the St. Jones River. The Murderkill River is tidally influenced from its mouth upstream to just past Frederica, and is considered by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to be navigable for the lower 10 miles (16 km) of its course.According to 2002 data from the United States Environmental Protection Agency, 55% of the area of the Murderkill River's watershed is occupied by agricultural uses; 17% is forested; 14% is urban; 9% is wetland; and 2% is water.

Bowers (commonly known as Bowers Beach) is a town in Kent County, Delaware, United States. It is part of the Dover, Delaware Metropolitan Statistical Area. According to the 2020 census, its population was 278.

Saxton United Methodist Church is a historic United Methodist church located at the junction of Main and Church Streets in Bowers, Kent County, Delaware. It was built in 1879, and is a long, narrow, one-story, gable-roofed, Gothic-influenced frame building with board-and-batten siding. It measures approximately 40 feet, 5 inches, in length by 24 feet, 5 inches, in width. The steeply pitched roof is topped by a pyramidal-roofed, bell cupola. The church was moved to its present location in 1893.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1990.

Brockonbridge Gut is a 4.67 mi (7.52 km) long 2nd order tributary to Delaware Bay in Kent County, Delaware. Brockonbridge Gut is the only stream of this name in the United States.

Town Point, also known as Kingston-upon-Hull and Logan's Lane, is a historic home located at Dover, Kent County, Delaware. It was built in three sections, with the earliest dated to about 1677. The oldest section is a brick, three bay structure consisting of two rooms and a center hall. A one-story, brick kitchen wing was added to the original section at an early date. A five-bay frame second story was added early in the 19th century.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1972.

Kitts Hummock is an unincorporated community in Kent County, Delaware, United States. Kitts Hummock is located on the Delaware Bay at the end of Kitts Hummock Road, southeast of Dover. It was originally named "Kidds Hammock" after 17th century pirate Captain William Kidd and rumors he buried treasure there. The "Hammock" referred to is the ecological version, meaning a stand of hardwood trees, and the name was inadvertently changed by employees of the Delaware Department of Transportation. A hummock is a similar rise in elevation, leading some to believe the reasoning behind the name.Kitts Hummock Beach is an official sanctuary for horseshoe crabs, the state marine animal of Delaware and a "signature species" of the Delaware Bay Estuary.

Barratt Hall, also known as the Philip Barratt House, is a historic home located near Frederica, Kent County, Delaware. It dates to the mid-18th century, and is a two-story, three-bay, center-hall plan brick dwelling in the Georgian-style. In 1784, Bishops Thomas Coke and Francis Asbury met in the house with Mrs. Miriam Barratt and eleven preachers. They held council here which ended in sending Freeborn Garrettson to summon preachers to the Christmas Conference in Baltimore, Maryland, at which the Methodist Church in America was organized. It was the home of Philip Barratt, who donated land and, together with Waitman Sipple, erected Barratt's Chapel in 1780.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.

Logan School House is a historic one-room school building located at Kitts Hummock, Kent County, Delaware. It was built about 1868, and is a one-story, gable roofed frame structure with grey simulated brick composition siding. The interior has a plastered barrel vault ceiling. The school served the educational requirements of the agricultural community of lower St. Jones Neck School District. Sometime after 1920 the building ceased to function as a school and it was converted into a private dwelling.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.

The Delaware National Estuarine Research Reserve consists of two unique components, one on Blackbird Creek (39°23′47″N 75°37′04″W) and the other on the St. Jones River (39°05′33″N 75°26′44″W). Freshwater wetlands, ponds and forest lands dominate the Blackbird Creek component. The St. Jones component is dominated by salt marsh and open water habitats of the Delaware Bay. The reserve monitors long-term changes in weather and aquatic conditions in the estuary. The reserve’s research and monitoring programs address key management issues, such as biodiversity and the impacts of land use on estuarine habitats, ecological impacts on horseshoe crab populations from migratory shorebirds, beach replenishment activities in relation to habitat preservation/ reclamation, and eutrophication and contaminants in the estuary.
