Cairns Wharf Complex is a heritage-listed wharf at Wharf Street, Cairns City, Cairns, Cairns Region, Queensland, Australia. It was built from 1910 to 1948. It was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 17 December 1999.

Since 2023, the shareholding Ministers are the Deputy Premier, Treasurer and Minister for Transport and Main Roads.Formerly known as the Cairns Port Authority, the corporation was responsible for the operation of the Cairns International Airport until the sale of the airport in December 2008 to a private consortium. The former authority was responsible for the Cairns Seaport and in 2009 became responsible for the regional ports of Mourilyan, Cooktown, Cape Flattery, Quintell Beach, Thursday Island, Skardon River, Karumba and Burketown.

The Sovereign Yidindji Government or Yidindji Tribal Nation is an Aboriginal Australian micro-nation that claims to exercise Australian Aboriginal sovereignty. Led by Murrumu Walubara Yidindji, members of the Yidindji nation renounced legal ties with Australia in 2014. The land they claim lies in the state of Queensland and stretches "south of Port Douglas, through Cairns, inland across the Atherton Tablelands and 80 kilometres (50 mi) out to sea”. The chief minister is Gudju Gudju Gimuybara, while Murrumu is foreign affairs and trade minister.The Yidindji government is hoping to enter into a memorandum of understanding with the Commonwealth of Australia. It is also "reaching out to countries like Russia and Venezuela to establish diplomatic relations". The Yidindji nation has its own driver licensing system. Murrumu was charged by police in May 2015 after being caught with a license and registration plates issued by the Yidindji government and not by the Queensland government.In 2022 the micro-nation launched the 'Sovereign Yidindji Dollar', a central bank digital currency pegged to the Australian dollar and claimed to be backed by gold and silver bars.

The City of Cairns was a local government area centred on the Far North Queensland city of Cairns. Established in 1885, for most of its existence it consisted of approximately 51.5 square kilometres (19.9 sq mi) around Cairns itself, with much of the metropolitan area being located in the Shire of Mulgrave. The Shire amalgamated into the City on 22 March 1995, as did small sections of neighbouring shires. In 2008, the City amalgamated with the Shire of Douglas to become the Cairns Region.

It was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 29 July 1997.

2015 is the eighth competitive season for the Cairns based Sea Swift Northern Pride Rugby League Football Club. They played in the QRL state competition, the Intrust Super Cup. 14 clubs competed, with each club playing 23 matches (12 home and 11 away) over 25 rounds. In 2015 the Townsville Blackhawks were admitted to the competition.
