Middlesex is a borough in Middlesex County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. It is located within the Raritan Valley region. As of the 2020 United States census, the borough's population was 14,636, its highest decennial count and an increase of 1,001 (+7.3%) from the 2010 census count of 13,635, which in turn reflected a decline of 82 (−0.6%) from the 13,717 counted in the 2000 census.Middlesex was incorporated as a borough by an act of the New Jersey Legislature on April 9, 1913, from portions of Piscataway, based on the results of a referendum held on May 6, 1913. The borough was named after Middlesex, England.

The Middlesex Board of Education is a comprehensive community public school district that serves students in pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade from Middlesex Borough, in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. The district includes three elementary schools, a middle school and a high school. As of the 2020–21 school year, the district, comprised of five schools, had an enrollment of 2,018 students and 182.2 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 11.1:1.The district is classified by the New Jersey Department of Education as being in District Factor Group "FG", the fourth-highest of eight groupings. District Factor Groups organize districts statewide to allow comparison by common socioeconomic characteristics of the local districts. From lowest socioeconomic status to highest, the categories are A, B, CD, DE, FG, GH, I and J.

The Middlesex Sampling Plant on Mountain Avenue in Middlesex, New Jersey, is a 9.6 acres (38,800 m2) site which was initially used to stockpile pitchblende uranium ore. From 1943 to 1955, under the direction of the Manhattan Project and its successor agency, the United States Atomic Energy Commission (AEC), it was used to crush, dry, screen, weigh, assay, store, package, and ship uranium ore, along with thorium and beryllium ores, for the development of the atomic bomb.

Possumtown is an unincorporated community located within Piscataway Township in Middlesex County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. The area is mostly a residential neighborhood nestled between Possumtown Road, River Road (CR 622) and Interstate 287. The neighborhood has two parks within its environs: Wynnewood Park and Possumtown Park.

Middlesex High School (MHS) is a four-year comprehensive public high school located in the center of Middlesex, Middlesex County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey, serving students in ninth through twelfth grades as the lone secondary school of the Middlesex Board of Education. The school is surrounded by Mountain View Park and all of its athletic complexes, including Memorial Field. As of the 2021–22 school year, the school had an enrollment of 622 students and 54.1 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 11.5:1. There were 118 students (19.0% of enrollment) eligible for free lunch and 44 (7.1% of students) eligible for reduced-cost lunch.

The Joseph and Minnie White House is a historic home at 243 Hazelwood Avenue in Middlesex, Middlesex County, New Jersey. The house was added to the National Register of Historic Places on October 28, 1988, for its significance in architecture and photojournalism as the childhood home of Margaret Bourke-White. It was built in 1905 with American Craftsman style.

Fieldville is a historical unincorporated community located within Piscataway Township in Middlesex County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. The location is sometimes described as being on River Road south of Bound Brook. The community was named after John Field and his descendants who settled the area.

The Vail–Trust House is a historic building located at 255 Greenbrook Road in Green Brook Township, Somerset County, New Jersey. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on October 7, 2008, for its significance in architecture.

Bonygutt Brook is a tributary of Green Brook in Union and Middlesex Counties, New Jersey in the United States. Bonygutt Brook flows from the city of Plainfield to Middlesex.

Ambrose Brook is a tributary of Green Brook in Middlesex County, New Jersey in the United States.It rises underneath Route 27 in Edison. It then flows into Lake Papaianni. It continues flowing northwest, parallel to County Route 529. After crossing Route 529 and Ethel Road West, it forms a border to some businesses in Piscataway, including William Kenyon and Sons, Inc. Upon flowing into Lake Nelson, the brook takes a more westerly route into Ambrose Doty's Park. Doty's Brook flows into it near Behmer Road in Piscataway. It then flows through undeveloped land as it crosses Interstate 287 near Possumtown Road. It continues flowing west into the pond at Victor Crowell Park in Middlesex The brook then takes a southwest turn and flows into the Green Brook near Lincoln Boulevard in Middlesex just before the Raritan River.

The Staats House, also known as the General Baron von Steuben Headquarters, is a historic building located at 17 Von Steuben Lane in South Bound Brook, Somerset County, New Jersey. Constructed c. 1740, it is now known as the Abraham Staats House after its second owner. In 1779, during the second Middlebrook encampment of the American Revolutionary War, it served as the headquarters for Prussian-American General Friedrich Wilhelm von Steuben. The house was added to the National Register of Historic Places on December 4, 2002, and noted as representing "one of the finest remaining buildings from the second phase of Dutch immigration and settlement in the Raritan Valley".
