Wakefield is a working-class and middle-class section of the northern borough of the Bronx in New York City. It is bounded by the city's border with Westchester County to the north, East 222nd Street to the south, and the Bronx River Parkway to the west. Wakefield is the northernmost neighborhood in New York City (although the city's northernmost point is actually in Riverdale, at the College of Mount Saint Vincent). The neighborhood is part of Bronx Community District 12 and its ZIP Codes are 10466 and 10470. Wakefield is patrolled by the 47th Precinct of the New York City Police Department.

The parish was established in 1898.The architect for the 1967 church was Paul W. Reilly.Its name honors St. Frances of Rome.

East 233rd Street is a major thoroughfare in the New York City borough of The Bronx. The road is 3 miles (4.8 km) long and stretches from U.S. Route 1 (Boston Road) in the Eastchester section of the Bronx to the Major Deegan Expressway (I-87) in Woodlawn (near Van Cortlandt Park). The road changes names from East 233rd Street to Pinkley Avenue after the eastern terminus, at Boston Road. There is one interchange with a highway along the way, which is for the Bronx River Parkway. There are two subway stations along the road, one at Dyre Avenue, serving the 5 train, and one at White Plains Road, serving the 2 and ​5 trains.

Misericordia Hospital is a 3-block medical center in The Bronx, New York City. that opened in 1887 in Staten Island, moved to Manhattan in 1889, and moved to The Bronx in 1958. The hospital was renamed Our Lady of Mercy Hospital in 1985, acquired by Montefiore Medical Center in 2008 and renamed as their North Division, then renamed the Wakefield Division of Montefiore. Misericordia is a not-for-profit voluntary teaching hospital.

Wakefield station (also known as Wakefield–East 241st Street station) is a commuter rail stop on the Metro-North Railroad's Harlem Line, serving the Wakefield section of the Bronx, New York City. It is the northernmost station on the line before it crosses the New York City limits into Westchester County, New York. It is 12.6 miles (20.3 km) from Grand Central Terminal and travel time there is approximately 29 minutes. The station is located on East 241st Street. The station is the first/last station in the Zone 2 Metro-North fare zone, and is the first/last station of the CityTicket intra-city ticket zone. Though there is no direct connecting bus service at the station, five blocks east from the station is the Wakefield–241st Street station (2 train) on the IRT White Plains Road Line of the New York City Subway, the northernmost station in the system.

It is 11.8 miles (19.0 km) from Grand Central Terminal and is located on East 233rd Street near Webster Avenue in the Zone 2 Metro-North fare zone. Just north of the station is Woodlawn Junction, where the New Haven Line splits from the Harlem Line to join the Northeast Corridor.

Mount Saint Michael Academy is an all-boys Roman Catholic high school in the Wakefield neighborhood of the New York City borough of the Bronx. The school's campus also borders the city of Mount Vernon in neighboring Westchester County and is administered by the Archdiocese of New York. The school opened on September 13, 1926, originally staffed by fourteen Marist Brothers, and dedicated to Saint Michael the Archangel. The U.S. Department of Education named it a National Blue Ribbon School in 1992.

The Church of St. Barnabas is a Roman Catholic parish church under the authority of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of New York, located at Martha Avenue near East 241st Street in Woodlawn Heights, The Bronx, New York City. The parish was established in July 1910 by the Rev. Michael A. Reilly, separated from the Bronx parish of St. Frances of Rome. It is one of the largest parishes in the Archdiocese.
