Hanoi University (HANU; Vietnamese: Trường Đại học Hà Nội) (formerly Hanoi University of Foreign Studies), established in 1959 in Hanoi, is an institution for foreign language training and research. Hanoi University offers bachelor's degrees in 10 languages including English, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Russian, French, German, Spanish, Italian and Portuguese. Among these, Masters and PhDs are offered in Russian, English, French and Chinese. Foreign languages offered as second languages are Bulgarian, Hungarian, Polish, Czech, Slovak, Romanian and Thai. Since 2002, the university has offered Business Bachelor Programs taught in English, in business management, tourism management, international studies, computer science, finance-banking, marketing and accounting. The National Convention Center (NCC, Vietnamese: Trung tâm Hội nghị Quốc gia) is a major convention center located on Thăng Long Boulevard in Nam Từ Liêm district of Hanoi, Vietnam. The convention center was designed by Meinhard von Gerkan and Nikolaus Goetze of Gerkan, Marg and Partners.

On 12 September 2023, at around 23:30 ICT (UTC+07:00), a fire occurred in a nine-story microapartment building in the 29th alley of Khương Hạ street, Khương Đình ward, Thanh Xuân district, Hanoi, Vietnam. Of the approximately 150 people residing in the building, 56 were killed by the fire and 37 others were injured. It was the deadliest residential fire in Vietnam since the 2002 Ho Chi Minh City ITC fire.

Hà Đông (literally East of the river) is an urban district (quận) of Hanoi, the capital city of Vietnam. The district currently has 17 wards, covering a total area of 49.64 square kilometers. As of 2019, there were 397,854 people residing in the district, the third highest of all districts in Hanoi, after Hoàng Mai. The district borders Thanh Trì district, Thanh Xuân district, Nam Từ Liêm district, Hoài Đức district, Quốc Oai district, Chương Mỹ district, Thanh Oai district. Hà Đông has a large number of monuments, landmarks, relics, traditional festivals and craft villages. It is an important transport hub and is also home to various government offices and universities. Hà Đông was once the capital city of former Hà Tây province. In 2009, it became an urban district of Hanoi due to the incorporation of Hà Tây Province to Hanoi.
