Higbee Street School is located in Trenton, Mercer County, New Jersey, United States. The building was built in 1857 and was added to the National Register of Historic Places on April 14, 1995. The Higbee Street School is a brick Greek Revival building constructed in 1857. This building was the first school built specifically for the free public education of African American children in the City of Trenton. The building itself was a departure from previous schools. It followed design concepts of 19th century education reformers and is probably one of the first African American schools to embody those innovations.
