Milltown, County Cavan

Drumlane (Irish: Droim Leathan, meaning 'The Broad Ridge') is a townland situated near the village of Milltown, area 85.76 hectares (211.93 acres), in County Cavan, Ireland. Drumlane is also the name of the civil parish in which the townland is situated. Saint Columba brought Christianity to Drumlane in 555, and Saint Máedóc of Ferns was the patron saint of Drumlane Abbey. Saint Máedóc made the Connachta nobleman Faircheallaigh the first Abbot of Drumlane in the 7th century and his Ó Faircheallaigh descendants were historically the Abbots of Drumlane. The name Drumlane denotes the drumlin region of low hilly ribbed moraines formed over a limestone bedrock created by the movement of glacial ice and melt water during the last ice age. Several townlands in the neighbourhood are prefixed with the word 'Drum', while several others are prefixed with the word 'Derry', which is Irish for oak.

The Belturbet bombing occurred on 28 December 1972 when a car bomb planted by Loyalist paramilitaries exploded in the main street in the border town of Belturbet in County Cavan in the Republic of Ireland. The bomb killed two teenagers Geraldine O'Reilly (15) and Patrick Stanley (16). Nobody claimed responsibility for the bombing but security services believe the Ulster Volunteer Force (UVF) carried out the attack. The attack happened just a few weeks after two people were killed and 127 injured when two car bombs exploded in the centre of Dublin, Republic of Ireland on 1 December 1972. On the same day as the Belturbet bombing, two other bombs exploded in border counties, the first in Clones, County Monaghan which injured two people and the second in Pettigo in County Donegal which caused no deaths or injuries. The three bombs all exploded within 49 minutes of each other.

Belturbet (; Irish: Béal Tairbirt, meaning 'mouth of the isthmus') is a town in County Cavan, Ireland. It lies on the N3 road, around 14 km (8.7 mi) north of Cavan town and 123 km (76 mi) from Dublin. It is also located around 4 km (2.5 mi) south of the border with Northern Ireland, between the counties of Cavan and Fermanagh, and 36 km (22 mi) from Enniskillen.

The Senator George Mitchell Peace Bridge (informally called the Peace Bridge or Aghalane Bridge) is a road bridge across the border of Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. It carries the A509 / N3 road between Enniskillen in County Fermanagh and Cavan in County Cavan. The bridge spans the Woodford River (Irish: Sruth Gráinne, meaning 'the Gravelly Stream' or 'the Gravelly River', sometimes anglicised as the River Gráinne or the Graine River).

Gartnanoul is a megalithic court tomb located in Killykeen Forest Park, Loughtee Upper, County Cavan, Ireland. Situated near Lough Oughter, the north tomb court is 3 metres (9.8 ft) in depth and 4 metres (13 ft) in width. Gartnanoul is called a dual-tomb because it has two tombs both in line with each other, with each tomb having its own court. It is estimated that when it was built Gartnanoul was 28 metres (92 ft) long and 8 metres (26 ft) wide. The roof stones are missing although the tomb is in good condition and cairn materials are found scattered around the tomb.

Killykeen Forest Park straddling Lough Oughter is situated in County Cavan, Ireland approximately five miles from Cavan town. Responsibility for the upkeep of Killykeen is through the state's commercial forestry service Coillte together with the National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) where Lough Oughter and its associated loughs are protected under the EU Habitats Directive as a Special Area of Conservation (SAC) and a Special Protection Area (SPA) for wildlife and particularly wintering birds. The forest consists of mainly mixed woodland including Norway and Sitka spruce, Ash, Oak and Beech. The area is popular with anglers because of its location along Lough Oughter which is connected to thousands of hectares of lakeland complexes. Canoeing, biking and windsurfing are also popular activities at the park. Other Attractions include Cloughoughter Castle and Gartnanoul Court Tomb.

The Rag River is a river in County Cavan, Ireland. It rises in Mullaghdoo Lough, in the townland of Aghnacreevy, parish of Kildallan, and flows in a north-easterly direction through the lakes of Clonty Lough, Togher Lough, Lough Rud, Aghavoher Lough, Killywilly Lough, Cuillaghan Lough, Tomkinroad Lough, Lough Tee Lower and Corraback Lough. It discharges into the Shannon–Erne Waterway in the townland of Corraback. It has a fish population of pike, bream, rudd, roach, gudgeon and perch. Archaeological finds in the river include dugout canoes, socketed bronze axes and Irish elk antlers. The structures of interest along the river include Ardlougher Bridge, Greenville Corn Mill, Togher Bridge, Cranaghan Bridge, Killywilly Cavan & Leitrim Railway Level Crossing, Killywilly Corn Mill [1], Killywilly Bleach Mill, Killywilly Bridge, Tomkinroad Cavan & Leitrim Railway Bridge, Tomkinroad Cavan & Leitrim Railway Station & Level Crossing, Tomkinroad Creamery, Drumrush Corn Mill & Weir, Droghill Bridge, Feedarragh Bridge & Stepping Stones.

Greaghrahan is a townland in the civil parish of Drumlane, Barony of Loughtee Lower, County Cavan, Ireland.

Killeshandra or Killashandra (Irish: Cill na Seanrátha, meaning 'the church of the old ring-fort'), is a village in County Cavan, Ireland. It is 20 kilometres (12 mi) northwest of Cavan Town in the centre of County Cavan's lakeland and geopark region and the Erne catchment environment of rivers, lakes, wetlands and woodland. Together with the Lough Oughter Special Protected Area (SPA), it has been recognised by the EU programme for wildlife Natura 2000 since 2010. Killeshandra is noted by Fáilte Ireland as an "Angling Centre of Excellence", and as a hub for the Cavan Walking Festival which takes place in May each year. There are several looped walking and cycling trails in Killykeen Forest Park. The town is also home to Killeshandra Gaelic Football Club, known locally as the Killeshandra Leaguers. Rockfield Lake, which is popular with anglers, is a few kilometres southwest of the town.

Aghavoher (from Irish: Achadh an Mhothair, meaning 'field of the trees or mound') is small a townland in the civil parish of Tomregan, County Cavan, Ireland. It is approximately 0.9 square kilometres (0.35 sq mi) in area and lies in the former barony of Loughtee Lower.

Knockarevan is a townland in County Fermanagh, Northern Ireland. The highest temperature in Northern Ireland recorded by the Met Office, 30.8 °C (87.4 °F), occurred at Knockarevan in County Fermanagh on 30 June 1976.
