London Coffee House, commonly referred to as the Old London Coffee House, was a colonial-era coffee house in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, that stood on the southwest corner of Market Street (formerly High Street) and Front Street. It was the scene of political and commercial activity, and also served as a place to inspect black slaves recently arrived from Africa and to bid for their purchase at public auction.

Tun Tavern was a tavern and brewery in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, which was a founding or early meeting place for a number of notable groups. It is traditionally regarded as the site where what became the United States Marine Corps held its first recruitment drive during the American Revolution. It is also regarded as one of the "birthplaces of Masonic teachings in America".

The Thomas Bond House is located at 129 South Second Street in Old City, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Originally built in 1769, as the home of Dr. Thomas Bond, it has since been restored into a bed and breakfast. The house was listed on the Philadelphia Register of Historic Places in 1968 and is within the Old City Historic District, a district on the National Register of Historic Places. It is adjacent to the Independence National Historical Park about 3 blocks east of Independence Hall. The main entrance faces south towards Welcome Park, the former location of William Penn's Slate Roof House.

The Slate Roof House was a mansion that stood on 2nd Street north of Walnut Street in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, from about 1687 until its demolition in 1867. Built for Barbadian Quaker merchant Samuel Carpenter, the house occupied a small hill overlooking the Delaware River. It was built of brick in the Jacobean style, with its façade featuring two projecting wings that flanked a recessed central entrance. The house was notable for its large size as well for its slate roof, which was a rarity in early Philadelphia.

Old Original Bookbinder's was a seafood restaurant at 125 Walnut Street in Philadelphia. It was known for its lobsters and its Bookbinder's soup. The restaurant was decorated with bas-reliefs of U.S. Presidents on its stained-glass facade and the Gettysburg Address written in bronze near the front door. The lobby held the world's largest indoor lobster tank; it could accommodate 350 lobsters.

2nd Street station (signed as 2nd Street–Penn's Landing–Old City on platforms) is a subway station on the Market-Frankford Line, beneath the intersection of 2nd Street and Market Street in Center City Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It is the easternmost stop in Center City and also the easternmost underground stop on the line. The station serves the Old City neighborhood of Philadelphia, with station signs originally reading "Olde City". The 'e' has been covered on the signs with obvious blue stickers. The station also serves Penn's Landing and Spruce Street Harbor Park along the Delaware River. 2nd Street is also served by SEPTA bus routes 5, 17, 33, and 48 also serve the station.

The United States Custom House is a historic United States federal government building in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Built between 1932 and 1934 to the Art Deco designs of the architectural firm of Ritter & Shay, the building occupies an entire block between Second, Chestnut, and Sansom Streets and the former Exchange Place in the heart of the oldest section of the city. Its south and west sides border Independence National Historical Park. At 17 stories and 287 feet (87 m) tall, the massive building towers above other nearby historic buildings of the shipping, financial, and commercial quarter. The building currently houses federal offices for the U.S. FDA, Department of State, Department of Homeland Security, National Park Service and U.S Customs and Border Protection agencies. The building was rehabilitated in 1991–93 and underwent a major renovation in 2010–13. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on May 25, 2011.

The Philadelphia Election Riot in 1742 was a riot that occurred due to political disagreements among the constituents of the increasingly diverse population in the city. Politics in Pennsylvania, including Philadelphia, had long been dominated by the Quakers but, with their political dominance increasingly threatened by the predominantly Anglican Proprietary Party, tensions grew in the city. The Quakers and Anglicans were predominantly led by Isaac Norris II and William Allen, both of whom were well respected and held significant political power. In an attempt to swing the vote, the Proprietary Party "hired armed sailors" to disrupt the Quakers who, in their own attempt, were bringing "unnaturalized Germans from the country to vote." On voting day, October 1, 1742, violence broke out between the two sides.

The City Tavern is a late-20th century building designed to be the replica of the historic 18th-century tavern and hotel building which stood on the site. It is located at 138 South 2nd Street in Philadelphia, at the intersection of Second and Walnut Streets, near Independence Hall. The original 18th century building was frequented by the Founding Fathers of the United States and other distinguished people. High-profile events took place there, including the first anniversary celebration of the 4th of July. The original building was partially burned down in the 19th century and the remains were demolished in 1854. Located in Independence National Historical Park, the present recreation was opened in 1976 for the American Bicentennial and operated as a restaurant which used typical 18th century recipes. The City Tavern temporarily closed during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.

Union Fire Company, sometimes called Franklin's Bucket Brigade, was a volunteer fire department formed in Philadelphia in 1736 with the assistance of Benjamin Franklin. It was the very first firefighting organization in Philadelphia, although it was followed within the year by establishment of the Fellowship Fire Company. The fire company was formed on 7 December 1736 after a series of publications in the Pennsylvania Gazette by Franklin and others pointing out the need for more effective handling of fires in Philadelphia and remained active until approximately 1820. Although modeled after the Mutual Fire Societies of Franklin's native Boston, the Union Fire Company protected all members of the community rather than only the members of the company.

Dock Creek was a stream draining much of what is now the eastern half of Center City, Philadelphia. It was a tributary of the Delaware River. By 1820, the entire creek had been covered and converted to a sewer. The present-day Dock Street follows the lower course of the stream.

Christ Church is an Episcopal church in the Old City neighborhood of Philadelphia. Founded in 1695 as a parish of the Church of England, it played an integral role in the founding of the Protestant Episcopal Church in the United States. In 1785, its rector, William White, became the first Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church. From 1754 to 1810, the church's 196-foot (60 m) tower and steeple was the tallest structure in the Thirteen Colonies and, later, the tallest structure in the United States.
