Rocky Brook

The Stockton Street Historic District covers both sides of Stockton Street (County Route 571), from Railroad Avenue to Summit Street, and a portion of Rogers Avenue in Hightstown, New Jersey. It is notable for its Victorian homes, First Methodist Church, and the Hightstown Civil War monument. It is also significant for its association with the introduction of rail service to New Jersey, as the first railroad in the United States to connect two major cities, New York and Philadelphia, originally ran along what is now Railroad Avenue at the eastern end of the district. In 1832, the John Bull, the first locomotive in the country, provided the first steam-powered passenger rail service in the country, stopping at Stockton Street. In July 2015, Hightstown became a Preserve America community which enhances historic preservation, including the district.

Windsor was a township (1751–1797) in early Middlesex County, in an area that is now within Mercer County, New Jersey, United States. Windsor Township was formed by Royal Charter on March 9, 1751, from portions of Piscataway Township. Both East Windsor Township and West Windsor Township were formed when Windsor Township was divided on February 9, 1797. The township was named after Windsor, England.

Hightstown is a borough in Mercer County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. Nestled within the Raritan Valley region, Hightstown is an historic, commercial, and cultural hub of Central New Jersey, along with being a diverse outer-ring commuter suburb of New York City in the New York Metropolitan Area. As of the 2020 United States census, the borough's population was 5,900, its highest decennial count ever and an increase of 406 (+7.4%) from the 5,494 recorded at the 2010 census, which in turn reflected an increase of 278 (+5.3%) from the 5,216 counted in the 2000 census.Hightstown was incorporated as a borough by an act of the New Jersey Legislature on March 5, 1853, within portions of East Windsor Township. The borough became fully independent around 1894. Additional portions of East Windsor Township were annexed in 1913, 1915, and 1927. The traditional explanation is that the borough was named for John and Mary Hight, who established a tavern in the area in the 1750s.

The Updike Parsonage Barn, formerly known as the Howarth Barn, is a restored historic barn in Cranbury, New Jersey. The pre-revolutionary, hand-hewn, white oak structure, believed to be one of the earliest barns constructed in Cranbury Township, was originally built in 1741. In 2005, the town engaged the New Jersey Barn Company, specialists in the restoration of historic barns, to dismantle and store and at a later date repair and reconstruct its frame. It was re-built on a new foundation at its new location in 2010. The barn joined two existing historic agricultural buildings known as the wagon house and the corncrib on the site known as the Barn Park.

The "Hightstown" rail accident occurred on the Camden and Amboy Railroad between Hightstown, New Jersey and Spotswood on November 8, 1833, just two months after horses were replaced by steam locomotives on the line. It is the earliest recorded train accident involving the death of passengers in America.The train had been travelling from South Amboy to Bordentown at a speed of 35 mph (56 km/h), when despite having stopped "to oil the wheels" and slowing to 20 mph (32 km/h), a journal box overheated (a condition known as hot box) and caught fire, causing an axle to break on one of the carriages, derailing and overturning it. All but one of the 24 passengers it carried were injured; one was killed outright and another died later from his injuries. Among the injured was Cornelius Vanderbilt, who broke a leg and vowed never to travel by train again, although he later broke his vow and eventually became a railway magnate, owning the New York Central Railroad, among others. Another passenger was Congressman and former US President John Quincy Adams, who escaped injury, but described the accident in his diary as "the most dreadful catastrophe that ever my eyes beheld". Irish actor Tyrone Power was also aboard the train and recorded the accident in his two-volume journal Impressions of America.

The Samuel Sloan House is a historic antebellum home in Hightstown, New Jersey. It is considered the finest home from the early history of the town. Its architecture can be described as Carpenter Italianate, with the impressive massing associated with an Italian villa combined with fanciful jigsaw carpentry. The home was originally thought to have designed by the architect, Samuel Sloan, as that name was found inscribed in a nineteenth century hand on a piece of millwork in the house. However, further research in 1997 established that the Samuel Sloan who built the home was in fact a local merchant and not the famed architect.

Hightstown High School is a four-year comprehensive public high school that serves students in ninth through twelfth grades comprised of three communities in Mercer County and Monmouth County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey, operating as part of the East Windsor Regional School District. Students come from East Windsor and Hightstown, both in Mercer County. Students from Roosevelt (a community in western Monmouth County) attend the district's high school as part of a sending/receiving relationship with the Roosevelt Public School District.The school is approved by the New Jersey Department of Education and is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools.As of the 2021–22 school year, the school had an enrollment of 1,621 students and 131.3 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 12.3:1. There were 347 students (21.4% of enrollment) eligible for free lunch and 127 (7.8% of students) eligible for reduced-cost lunch.

East Windsor is a township in Mercer County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. Located at the cross-roads between the Delaware Valley region to the southwest and the Raritan Valley region to the northeast, the township is an outer-ring suburb of New York City in the New York Metropolitan area, as defined by the United States Census Bureau, but directly borders the Philadelphia metropolitan area and is part of the Federal Communications Commission's Philadelphia Designated Market Area. Since East Windsor is situated at the confluence of several major highways that serve both the major cities of New York City and Philadelphia, and even the local commercial hubs of nearby Freehold, Princeton, and the state capital of Trenton, the community has been a longtime residential, commercial, and industrial hub in the heart of Central New Jersey.As of the 2020 United States census, East Windsor's population was 30,045, its highest decennial count ever and an increase of 2,855 (+10.5%) from the 27,190 recorded at the 2010 census, which in turn reflected an increase of 2,271 (+9.1%) from the 24,919 counted in the 2000 census.Both East Windsor and West Windsor were formed when Windsor Township was split on February 9, 1797, while the area was still part of Middlesex County. It was incorporated by an act of the New Jersey Legislature on February 21, 1798, as one of New Jersey's initial group of 104 townships. Portions of the township were taken to form Hightstown borough (March 5, 1853, within East Windsor; became independent c. 1894) and Washington Township (March 11, 1860, and known as Robbinsville Township since 2007). The township was named for Windsor Township, which was named for Windsor, England.

The Peddie School is a college preparatory school in Hightstown, in Mercer County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. It is a non-denominational, coeducational boarding school located on a 280-acre (110 ha) campus, and serves students in the ninth through twelfth grades, plus a small post-graduate class. The school has been accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Elementary and Secondary Schools since 1928.For the 2023–24 school year, the school had an acceptance rate of 22%.As of the 2021–22 school year, the school had an enrollment of 532 students and 83 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 6.4:1. The school's student body was 41.0% (218) White, 35.0% (186) Asian, 11.3% (60) Black, 7.3% (39) two or more races and 5.5% (29) Hispanic. Peddie had 62% of students in residence. The student body represented 26 states as well as 29 foreign countries. Peddie had an average class size of 12. Peter Quinn succeeded John Green as head of school in 2013.

Cranbury is a township in southern Middlesex County, within the U.S. state of New Jersey. Located within the heart of the Raritan Valley region, Cranbury is roughly equidistant between New York City and Philadelphia, contributing to it being a regional historical, cultural, and commercial hub of Central New Jersey (the township is known for its logistics industry) and as an outer-ring commuter suburb of New York City within the New York metropolitan area. The municipal taxes generated by the industrial properties have helped to keep residential property taxes steady over time. As of the 2020 United States census, the township's population was 3,842, a decrease of 15 (−0.4%) from the 2010 census count of 3,857, which in turn had reflected an increase of 630 (+19.5%) from the 3,227 counted at the 2000 census.
