Connellsville Area High School is a rural, public high school, located in Connellsville, Pennsylvania, United States of America. It is operated by the Connellsville Area School District. In the 2016–2017 school year, enrollment was reported as 1,138 pupils in 9th through 12th grades. Connellsville Area Senior High School students may choose to attend Connellsville Area Career and Technology Center (also run by the Connellsville Area School District) for training in the construction and mechanical trades. The Intermediate Unit IU1 provides the school with a wide variety of services like: specialized education for disabled students and hearing, background checks for employees, state mandated recognizing and reporting child abuse training, speech and visual disability services and criminal background check processing for prospective employees and professional development for staff and faculty.

It was built in 1906, as a one-story, open bank building. It was remodeled during the 1930s, to be two-stories. It has two Classical Revival facades, featuring four, two-story Ionic order columns supporting a pediment on each side.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2002.

Carnegie Free Library is a historic Carnegie library building located at Connellsville, Fayette County, Pennsylvania. It was designed and built in 1901, with funds partly provided by the philanthropist Andrew Carnegie. Carnegie provided $50,000 toward the construction of the Connellsville library. The grant was commissioned by Carnegie on April 22, 1899; it was the 13th library that he commissioned in America. It is a two-story Ohio buff stone structure with basement in the Italian Renaissance Revival style. The exterior features a terra cotta cornice and red Spanish tile roof. It measures 92.2 feet (28.1 m) by 74.6 feet (22.7 m).It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1981.

Dr. J.C. McClenathan House and Office, also known as the Medical Center Building, is a historic home and doctor's office located at Connellsville, Fayette County, Pennsylvania. It was built about 1895, and is a 2+1⁄2-story building with Richardsonian Romanesque and Queen Anne style design details. The stone-clad building features a two-story inset porch, a sloped stone parapet, and three-story tower with decorative frieze.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2002.

Connellsville Armory is a historic National Guard armory located at Connellsville, Fayette County, Pennsylvania. It was designed by Pittsburgh architects W.G. Wilkins Co. It was built in 1907, and consists of a two-story administration section with a rear one-story drill hall in a "T"-plan. The 55 foot by 110 foot building is constructed of brick on a coursed ashlar foundation. It has a number of Tudor Revival / Late Gothic Revival style details including a two-story entrance arch, a gabled parapet, and brick polygonal towers.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1991.

The Memorial Bridge is a structure that crosses the Youghiogheny River, connecting the eastern and western shores of Connellsville, Pennsylvania, US. The bridge was constructed in 1952 as part of a new routing a U.S. Route 119 (US 119) on a four-lane highway around the city center. In 1982, the structure was rehabilitated as part of a decade long widening of the route through Fayette County, that included the creation of a freeway bypass in Uniontown, 12 miles (19 km) to the south. In 2009–10, the road was again reconstructed, this time to accommodate improved pedestrian pathways. The walkways were widened as part of a plan to connect the Great Allegheny Passage, the Washington, D.C. to Pittsburgh trail that runs just past the western bridge approach, to an extension of the small Coal & Coke Trail, which currently runs from Mount Pleasant to Scottdale, Pennsylvania.

The Connellsville Coalfield is located in Fayette County and Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, between the city of Latrobe and the small borough of Smithfield. It is sometimes known as the Connellsville Coke Field. This is because the section of the Pittsburgh coal seam here was famous as one of the finest metallurgical coals in the world. It is locally known as the Connellsville coal seam, but is a portion of the Pittsburgh seam. Coal was mined in this field from the early 19th century. Actual coking of the coal was first tried near Connellsville in the 1840s. After the Civil War a beehive coke industry gained a foothold in the region. The heyday of the Connellsville Coalfield was from the 1880s to the 1920s. At least 60 coal towns, known as "coal patches", were constructed in the field. H.C. Frick Coal and Coke - a subsidiary of U.S. Steel after 1903 - was the major player. Other notable industrialists included Josiah Van Kirk Thompson, W. J. Rainey, and Philip Cochran. In an event known as the Morewood massacre in the early morning of April 2, 1891, local law enforcement shot into a crowd of striking United Mine Workers miners from the Morewood Coke Works, near Mount Pleasant, Pennsylvania. Seven miners died on the scene, and three more later died from their injuries. The coalfield endured a long decline in the beehive coke industry and a gradual exhaustion of the coal reserves.
