Nescochague Creek

Albertson Brook, also called Albertsons Brook, is the name of Nescochague Creek upstream of the confluence with Great Swamp Brook in the southern New Jersey Pine Barrens in the United States. Albertson Brook is near Hammonton, New Jersey, and flows for 6.3 miles (10.1 km) through Atlantic and Camden counties. It has a drainage area of 17.1 square miles (44 km2), of which nearly half is forest land, and the rest is split between urban and agricultural uses, both of which have tended to pollute the brook in the past. It is formed by the confluence of the Pump Branch and Blue Anchor Brook.

Nesco (also called New Columbia) is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) located in Mullica Township, Atlantic County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. As of the 2020 census, Nesco had a population of 422. Nesco is located approximately 6 mi (9.7 km) east of Hammonton. The New Columbia-Nesco United Methodist Church is located there. The Nesco School is located west of the settlement.

Great Swamp Brook (Great Swamp Branch on federal maps) is a 9.1-mile-long (14.6 km) tributary of Nescochague Creek in the southern New Jersey Pine Barrens in the United States.

Hammonton Municipal Airport (FAA LID: N81) is a public-use airport located three nautical miles (5.6 km; 3.5 mi) northeast of the central business district of the town of Hammonton in Atlantic County, New Jersey, United States. The airport is publicly owned.

Hammonton is a town in Atlantic County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey, that has been referred to as the "Blueberry Capital of the World". As of the 2020 United States census, the town's population was 14,711, a decrease of 80 (−0.5%) from the 2010 census count of 14,791, which in turn reflected an increase of 2,187 (+17.4%) from the 12,604 counted in the 2000 census. Geographically, the town, and all of Atlantic County, is part of the South Jersey region of the state and of the Atlantic City-Hammonton metropolitan statistical area, which in turn is included in the Philadelphia metropolitan area. The first European settlement of Hammonton was in 1812. It was named for John Hammond Coffin, a son of one of the community's earliest settlers, William Coffin, with the "d" in what was originally Hammondton disappearing over time. It was incorporated as a town by an act of the New Jersey Legislature on March 5, 1866, from portions of Hamilton Township and Mullica Township. The town is located directly between Philadelphia and the resort town of Atlantic City, along a former route of the Pennsylvania Railroad with Hammonton station directly in the downtown area. The route is now used by NJ Transit's Atlantic City Line.

Atsion Mansion is a country estate in the community of Atsion in Shamong Township, New Jersey. The estate is one of the finest examples of Vernacular Greek Revival architecture in the state of New Jersey. The home was built by Samuel Richards, a wealthy and influential ironmaster from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, as a summer country estate for his family. Richards's main residence was located on Arch Street in Philadelphia. The mansion is currently under the management of the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection in Wharton State Forest.

Atsion is an unincorporated community located within Shamong Township in Burlington County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. The community is located next to Atsion Lake. The settlement is located within the Wharton State Forest, and a forest office, parking area and information kiosk are located at Atsion.

Atsion Lake is a man-made lake in Wharton State Forest in the Pine Barrens, in the community of Atsion, Burlington County, New Jersey. The lake is part of the Mullica River. It offers boating, hiking, fishing, swimming and camping facilities, and cross-country skiing in the winter.

The Atlantic City Speedway was a board oval racing track located near Hammonton, New Jersey. The track was built in 1926, and hosted eight American Automobile Association sanctioned races before the track was demolished in 1933. As of 2025, the scar that the track left behind can still faintly be seen on Google Maps.

Tomasello Winery is a winery located in Hammonton in Atlantic County, New Jersey. Tomasello is the second-oldest active winery in the state, after Renault Winery. The vineyard was first planted in 1888, and opened to the public in 1933 after the end of Prohibition. Tomasello is one of the largest winegrowers in New Jersey, having 70 acres of grapes under cultivation, and producing 65,000 cases of wine per year. Although the winery is in Hammonton, most of the grapes are grown on three vineyards in the neighboring Winslow Township in Camden County. The winery is named after the family that owns it.

The New Jersey Pine Barrens, also known as the Pinelands or simply the Pines, is the largest remaining example of the Atlantic coastal pine barrens ecosystem, stretching across more than seven counties of New Jersey. Two other large, contiguous examples of this ecosystem remain in the northeastern United States: the Long Island Central Pine Barrens and the Massachusetts Coastal Pine Barrens. The name pine barrens refers to the area's sandy, acidic, nutrient-poor soil. Although European settlers could not cultivate their familiar crops there, the unique ecology of the Pine Barrens supports a diverse spectrum of plant life, including orchids and carnivorous plants. The area is also notable for its populations of rare pygmy pitch pines and other plant species that depend on the frequent fires of the Pine Barrens to reproduce. The sand that composes much of the area's soil is referred to by the locals as sugar sand. The Pine Barrens remains mostly rural and undisturbed despite its proximity to the sprawling metropolitan cities of Philadelphia and New York City, in the center of the very densely populated Boston-Washington Corridor on the Eastern Seaboard. The heavily traveled Garden State Parkway and Atlantic City Expressway traverse sections of the eastern and southern Pine Barrens, respectively. The Pine Barrens territory helps recharge the 17-trillion-U.S.-gallon (64×10^9 m3) Kirkwood–Cohansey aquifer, containing some of the purest water in the United States. As a result of all these factors, in 1978, Congress passed legislation to designate 1.1 million acres (4,500 km2; 1,700 sq mi) of the Pine Barrens as the Pinelands National Reserve (the nation's first National Reserve) to preserve its ecology. A decade later, it was designated by the United Nations as an International Biosphere Reserve. Development in the Pinelands National Reserve is strictly controlled by an independent state/federal agency, the New Jersey Pinelands Commission. The Pinelands Reserve contains the Wharton, Brendan T. Byrne (formerly Lebanon), Penn, and Bass River state forests. The reserve also includes two National Wild and Scenic Rivers: the Maurice and the Great Egg Harbor. John McPhee's 1967 book The Pine Barrens focuses on the history and ecology of the region.

Pinelands National Reserve is a national reserve that encompasses much of the New Jersey Pine Barrens. The Pinelands is a unique location of historic villages and berry farms amid the vast oak-pine forests (pine barrens), extensive wetlands, and diverse species of plants and animals of the Atlantic coastal pine barrens ecoregion. It is protected by state and federal legislation through management by local, state, and federal governments and the private sector. The reserve contains Wharton State Forest, Brendan T. Byrne State Forest, Bass River State Forest, Penn State Forest, and Double Trouble State Park, which provide public recreation facilities. Established by Congress in 1978, it is one of the nation's first national reserves, established along with Ebey's Landing National Historical Reserve.
