The Soma Festival (Sanskrit: सोम, or sóma, meaning drink of the Gods, see Soma (drink); Irish: Féile Soma) is an annual music, arts, and cultural festival. The festival includes concerts, musical performances, well-being activities, art exhibitions and stalls, language events, celebrations of food and drink, music workshops, and pub sessions. The festival began in 2013 and takes place in Castlewellan, County Down in Northern Ireland. The festival is directed by Belfast-born singer Tíona McSherry and run by a team of volunteers. The Festival Club brings together musicians and festival visitors on a nightly basis.

Castlewellan (from Irish Caisleán Uidhilín 'Hugelin's Castle') is a small town in County Down, in the south-east of Northern Ireland close to the Irish Sea. It is beside Castlewellan Lake and Slievenaslat mountain, 11 miles (18 km) southwest of Downpatrick. It lies between the Mourne Mountains and Slieve Croob. It had a population of 2,782 people in the 2011 census.Castlewellan has a wide main street which runs through two main squares lined with chestnut trees. The town was designed by a French architect for the Annesley Family. The Annesley family did not always own the land as they bought it from The Maginess Family. (see Earl Annesley), then owners of what is now Castlewellan Christian Conference Centre and Forest Park, and is unique within Ireland due to its tree-lined squares both in the old town (upper square) and new town (lower square) as well as its very wide main street. The old market house in the upper square was built in 1764 and now houses the public library.

Annsborough is a small village in County Down which is one of the main residential areas in Castlewellan, Northern Ireland. It is situated on the A25 road between Downpatrick and Newry, about 0.8 kilometres to the east of Castlewellan and 17 kilometres to the south west of Downpatrick. It had a population of 593 in the 2001 Census. The village is situated within the Mourne Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Castlewellan railway station was on the Great Northern Railway (Ireland). It was located in the village of Castlewellan.

Castlewellan GAC (also known as St Malachy's GAC, or in Irish, CLG Naomh Maolmhaodhóg, Caisleán Uidhilín) is a Gaelic Athletic Association Club in Castlewellan, County Down, Northern Ireland. The club promotes the Gaelic Games of Hurling, Football, Camogie and other cultural and social pursuits.

Castlewellan Forest Park is located in the town of Castlewellan in County Down, Northern Ireland. The park covers some 460 hectares, including woodland and a 40 hectare lake. It was opened to the public in 1967 after the Forest Service of the Department of Agriculture purchased the land from the Annesley family. Features of the park include the National Arboretum, the Peace Maze and Castlewellan Castle.

South Down (Irish: An Dún Theas, Ulster Scots: Sooth Doon) is an electoral constituency for the Northern Ireland Assembly. It lies in the southern portion of County Down. The seat was first used for a Northern Ireland-only election for the Northern Ireland Assembly in 1973. It usually shares the same boundaries as the South Down UK Parliament constituency, however the boundaries of the two constituencies were slightly different from 1983 to 1986 as the Assembly boundaries had not caught up with Parliamentary boundary changes and from 1996 to 1997 when members of the Northern Ireland Forum had been elected from the newly drawn Parliamentary constituencies but the 51st Parliament of the United Kingdom, elected in 1992 under the 1983–95 constituency boundaries, was still in session. Members were then elected from the constituency to the 1975 Constitutional Convention, the 1982 Assembly, the 1996 Forum and then to the current Assembly from 1998. Some of the most high-profile MLAs for the constituency have included Caitríona Ruane, Margaret Ritchie, and John McCallister. Ballybannon is a townland on the outskirts of the village of Annsborough close to the town of Castlewellan, County Down, Northern Ireland. The area is a wetland with two small areas of vegetation.

Clanvaraghan is a small village in County Down, in the north-east of Northern Ireland close to the Irish Sea. Clanvaraghan is located approximately 3 miles north of the town of Castlewellan. The village has a population of 186 residents while the number of people living within this rural townland is much greater.

Aghlisnafin (from Irish Achadh Lios na bhFian 'field of the ringfort of the warrior bands') is a rural townland in County Down, Northern Ireland. It has an area of 843.82 acres (3.42 km2). It is situated in the civil parish of Kilmegan and the historic barony of Lecale Upper, located 2.3 miles north east of Castlewellan. It lies within the Newry, Mourne and Down District Council. Aghlisnafin is also known as Aughlisnafin.

Maghera is a civil parish in County Down, Northern Ireland. It is situated in the historic barony of Iveagh Upper, Lower Half.The parish contains Maghera Churches and Round Tower, a 6th century ecclesiastical site that is now a scheduled monument and monument in state care.
