Oxford County, New Zealand

Oxford (Māori: Ōkiwhata) is a small town serving the farming community of North Canterbury, New Zealand. It is part of the Waimakariri District and is a linear town, approximately 2 kilometres (1.2 mi) long. Originally, it was served by the Oxford Branch railway, and had two stations, East Oxford and West Oxford. The line closed in 1959 and was dismantled. Some railway signs and the remnants of railway platforms can still be seen along Oxford Road on the way to Rangiora. It was originally a logging town: trees were felled from forests in the area, and hauled by beast to Christchurch. A mural depicting life from that era is painted on the side wall of the butchers shop. Oxford has won awards for the most beautiful village and the most beautiful toilet.

Burnt Hill is a small rural community in the Waimakariri District, New Zealand. It is named for the small extinct volcano in the township's south-east corner.

Coopers Creek is a small rural community near Oxford in the Waimakariri District, New Zealand. It has only eight roads, and no shops. It has a number of mountains and walking tracks. In 1901, Coopers Creek had a population of 168.

The Ashley Gorge is a river gorge of the Ashley River / Rakahuri in Canterbury, New Zealand. The river is bridged at the mouth of the gorge by the Inland Scenic Route, formerly designated State Highway 72. A popular picnic ground and camping area is adjacent to the bridge. Upstream of the gorge the river flows through the Lees Valley.Ashley Gorge is also the name of a small rural locality 2.5 km southwest of the bridge.

Glentui is a small rural community in the Waimakariri District, New Zealand. It is well known for Glentui Meadows, a facility frequently used by youth groups and schools for camping.Close to Gentui was Birch Hill Station, a sheep station that was taken up by Theophilus Samuel Mannering in the nineteenth century. George Edward Mannering, who would later become an mountaineer, was born here in 1862.

Waimakariri District is a local government district, located in the Canterbury Region of New Zealand's South Island. It is named after the Waimakariri River, which forms the district's southern boundary, separating it from Christchurch City and the Selwyn District. It is bounded in the north by the Hurunui District and in the east by the Pacific Ocean. The district was established on 1 April 1989 following the merger of Rangiora District and Eyre County. The district covers 2,217.12 square kilometres (856.03 sq mi), and is home to 69,000 people. Rangiora is the district seat and largest town, with other major towns including Kaiapoi, Oxford, Pegasus and Woodend. The current district mayor is Dan Gordon, who was elected in the 2019 local body elections.

The Glentui River is a river in the Canterbury region of New Zealand. It arises on the slopes of Mount Richardson and flows south-east through the locality of Glentui and into Ashley River / Rakahuri, which exits in the Pacific Ocean. The river was earlier called Tui Creek, and the locality named from the station Glentui established by H.C.H. Knowles in 1854.There are nature and waterfall walking tracks along the river.

Courtenay is a settlement in inland Canterbury, New Zealand. It was once important as a place where the Waimakariri River could be forded and was a coach stop on the way to the West Coast. Its decline began when the Midland Line was routed via the nearby Kirwee.

Darfield is a town in the Selwyn District of the South Island of New Zealand. It is 35 kilometres west of Christchurch. Its population is 3,150 as of June 2023.Darfield is the main town between Christchurch and the West Coast region. It is often called "The township under the nor'west arch" in reference to a characteristic weather phenomenon that often creates an arch of cloud in an otherwise clear sky to the west of the township. This is caused by the condensation of water particles channelled upwards over the Southern Alps. Darfield lies in the Malvern district's arable and pastoral farming area. It is a gateway to the scenic Waimakariri and Rakaia rivers and the Southern Alps, and is also a popular lift-off place for hot air ballooning. Darfield is located around the former junction of the railway lines coming from Christchurch and going to Whitecliffs (where coal was mined) and Springfield and on to the West Coast.

Kirwee is a town located west of Christchurch in the Canterbury region of New Zealand's South Island. It was named after Karwi in India by retired British Army colonel De Renzie Brett. Kirwee is also home to the South Island Agricultural Field Days, held biennially.
